Hygrometer longevity

Do volatilized cigar oils ruin hygrometers?
 

I have 2 Bluetooth hygrometers in 2 separate cigar humidors. I’ve had to replace them twice in less than a year. They just stopped working at about the same time in both cases. In contrast, I have 2 more of these Bluetooth hygrometers, one in a deep freezer the other in a bedroom and they’ve been working fine for over 2 years. So I ask, is there something about a humidor that would make Bluetooth hygrometers go bad?

There must be something about the sensor in this particular Govee Bluetooth model. Unlikely to be a bad batch of 4 of them.

Can I ask you how much those hygrometers run and if you think its worth it to purchase a mobile one?

They’re cheap, $20 on Amazon. But they’re small. It’s why I keep replacing them.  Unfortunately, it’s easy for it to go unnoticed after they’ve stopped working properly. What’s a mobile one?

I monitor my house and freezer in NY from here in Florida , but they run year round . No issues , but mine are like $150 each .

The ones I’m using are very small and fit in a cigar humidor.
I’d be willing to pay more for something is cigar gas proof and fits in a humidor.

I would say there is no need for the blue tooth in a humidor and just adds another piece that can break. I just use small digital ones and my humidor is the size of a wine fridge

I smoked a Romeo y Julietta 1875 today that I bet has been in my humidor for at least two years, and probably more. It just happened to get overlooked or passed on for a long time. It smoked like it was just bought fresh. My humidor is on my dresser, and I just check it every night so I don't need the more advanced hygrometers. I'm just rambling a little off topic because, although I knew a cigar store or warehouse could keep them fresh, I had doubts on whether a relatively cheap home model would keep the cigars good for so long.

They can improve when aged, as you found.
I have 2 tabletop humidors with hygrometers built-in, which in all honesty is good enough. I just like to track the values digitally through time. It’s not complicated tech. In fact, my other sensors have endured for years. I’m surprised that they simply seem to die after a few months in the humidor.

my experience has been all over the place with cheap small amazon ones that are doing well in my "herbal" storage box, to more expensive built in humidifiers working like crap from day 1. I'm adding nothing to the conversation other than that my results are mixed. I do have a professional handheld from work which helps to confirm my suspicions.

Florida’s  nice, my humidor is a table .  Bought some sticks when I got here six weeks ago, didn’t smoke one as I got blood clots in my leg around the same time , they are still in good shape .

Ill check with the vein Dr at home ,although I know what he’ll say .
