Closed on the property on May 12th. Now the daunting task of packing up the old house, getting rid of some things, selling some things and then gathering up the dozen tree stands from the land I been hunting for the past 15 years. Probably will leave a stand or 2 at the old land just for a change too. There are trout, bass, grass carp and going to introduce catfish soon to the ponds. Can't wait to till up a few spots for some plots and get some cameras out. Always see deer just after dark in the area.3 points

NYgobbler on the board- MR Ivory Spurs Hunt started out dead this morning, no gobbling on the roost, got real funny when 4 jakes ran in silent on me as I stood up to leave, turned around to pick something up, turned back around, and there they stood, @ 15 yards, then set up on a gobbler that had me pinned down (60-80 yards in wide open woods) for 30 minutes trailing a hen that stood out in front 15-20 yards. I ended his taunt, after she walked past me, and cut short his schedule this morning. Light bird at 17lbs, but he sported 1-1/8" spurs, 8-1/2" beard. Nice to walk out the door and hunt right from the house.Hunter: Mookyj (mike) * State: NY Date: 5-8-14 Time: 6:40 Method: Rem 11-87, Hevi-Shot Turkey Choke, Hevi-13 3" #6's Species: Eastern Male Wt: 17lbs 0oz Left spur: 1-1/8" right spur: 1-1/8" 8-1/2" beard NWTF Score - 17.000 + 17.000 + 11.250 + 11.250 = 56.5003 points

On Friday May 30 I watched two turkeys fight for 20 minutes. Jumping and spurring and then wrapping their heads around each other pushing each other around the field. When they stopped they followed 5 hens into the woods. I cut the distance to where they entered the woods, made a few hen calls. Within a few minutes both toms entered the field and went in to full strut. When the one tom walked in to about 20 yards I took the shot, second bird of the season down!3 points

the crap they send as a gift is embarrassing..........they should save that money, and the money they waste on sending junk mail to people who are already members, on educating and recruiting non-members..as for the phone calls? I just hang up at this point.1 point

I got a call recently from them asking for $500. I told them I'm already a life member and with a new born to support, I can't contribute much. Eventually, after talking it down, I gave them $100 donation. A few weeks passed, they called again. I told them I had just given them $100 recently and that's all I can give. "How about "$200 then?"..""No"..."How about $75 then?"..."No"..."How about $50 then?".... A month or so passed and they called me again! This time, I was a little more stern. I said I told them they had already called me, I gave them $100. They called me back again, I told them no and now you're calling me again. I am not giving any more. I expect I will receive another call very soon.1 point

Interesting question. I never thought about being "proud" (or not) of being from NY. I have been very proud of several local town based organization's I am a part of because of the good things we have done. I have lived my entire life on Long Island - Queens to Nassau to Suffolk. My work requires me to travel around the country and I get to meet with many people from many different areas and upbringings. Some people look at New Yorkers as bad, some look in wonder because we live in the "center of the universe." It's all stereotyping. I have property in Delaware County, NY where they call folks like me "flatlanders." Same type of stereotyping (which can be based somewhat in fact). I am very happy for where I was born and raised. Having access to the big apple has given my opportunities that many people outside this area do not have. Working in Manhattan for over 20 years has given me experiences and taught me things that you will never learn in school. But there are unique experiences to be had anywhere. When people think you are an "expert" because you are from the NYC area, it can be an advantage. When people think you are a loony liberal, or a con artist because you are from here, it is a disadvantage. There are geniuses and halfwits everywhere. There are right-wingers, left-wingers and everything in-between everywhere. God made the land, so I can't take credit for that. I didn't vote for Cuomo, so I won't take blame for that. As others have mentioned, it is luck of the draw where you are born. There are a lot worse places to live than NY. It's what you do that counts, not where you are from.1 point

That's a nice looking critter. Congratulations are in order on your first bow-kill. They are all great, but none are more significant than the first.1 point

Wooly...You are a man of many talents and one of them is you are a great "straight man"... I had an encounter with a "giant angry beaver " once myself, down in Tijuana, but it didn't have TEETH, thank goodness.... I can't remember if my SHORTS survived the encounter or not. I think the TEQUILA may have had something to do with it1 point

I have been to Alaska seven times hunting and fishing...I wish I could afford to go every year. I LOVE the place ! Live there ?? You gotta be KIDDING !! Very brief spring, short summer, very brief fall and LOOOOONG dark winter. Fishing is excellent, but GOOD hunting even for most Alaskans is an expensive plane ride away. Anyplace accessible by roads ( even atvs) is either marginal hunting or tags are very difficult to draw. Even Alaskan residents have to wait years to draw a moose tag on the Kenai. WONDERFUL place to go fishing or hunting ( IF you have deep pockets) but I would never want to live there. I think I read someplace that the suicide rate is the highest in the nation.1 point

If you want a rifle it really doesnt matter too much. They all kill deer for the most part. I have shot 8 deer with a rifle since it became legal in Chautauqua county. 4 with a .243 and 4 with a .308. All of them died within 30 yards of the hit. I see no difference. the best part of rifles is usually you hit where you are aiming! I would say anything from a .243-.308 is a great choice. Relatively low recoil and they work as long as you hit the deer where you are supposed to.1 point

I am proud to be from the part of NY no one thinks exists, or cares about or thinks we matter. It is really a different NY mindset here from many perspectives. My hope is to make the state a place to be proud of for everyone again.1 point

Did you ever think that if it were not for the gun laws and taxes we would be over run with people in every part of this state. I have a well to do aunt in Malvern LI and when i ask the old bird why she puts up with a 16k a year tax bill she tells me "it keeps the riff raff out".. Who knows.1 point

Definitely a tough season for me this year but went after a bird today that I missed earlier in the year. Connected with him at 8:30 this morning. Weighed almost 20lbs, 8.5” beard and 1 inch spurs. Tough to judge beards this year ... must be loosing my touch or sight- HA!! With all of the snow there weren’t a whole lot of birds with long beards and the frigid temps didn’t help that we had by the lake. Tom population seemed to be down as well but the bonus today was two heaping handfuls of Morels!!! Not sure which I was more excited about = the turkey or the morels – no complaints though!! Actually it is probably getting to sleep in again.1 point

Part 2 of that video showed them dragging a string of tin cans and a sign on the back of the bike that read "Just Married!" That footage must have been shot somewhere up in upstate NY,lol1 point
