  2. Well I joined the forums and loved being a part of them. Around last year I noticed my taptalk app wouldn't let me log in, and after trying to log in on my computer, It seemed like I was deleted from HuntingNY forums. I tried sending multiple emails to the site to try and see what happened to my account and never received a response. ANYWAYYYY... I'm back under the same name. I got a great 10 pt buck last year and a couple does for the freezer so you can say it was a successful year!

  3. I've caught a couple hood rats over the past 5 years in our neighborhood. Both were charged with crimes; one was ONLY stealing a bike but the other was going to break in to the house across the street. Both are long stories but the Readers Digest version of the second one is that he had already done a few other daylight robberies in the past until I caught him casing my neighbors. I confronted him in a ugly way and before I turned him loose (I couldn't prove anything at that point) I snapped his picture with my old flip phone camera. That pizzed him off....... I reported it right away and the police were very interested in talking to me in person and about passed out when I showed them the picture! It took 6 weeks but they did catch the punk and he admitted to all the break ins and that he was going to rob my neighbor's house until I (I wasn't alone, I had Smith & Wesson along) confronted him. POS punks........

  4. Does in Grow's area are bred with a 90+% success rate - typically high 90s. Dry does here are about as rare as Vince Lombardi trophies are in wNY.

  6. I have tried a bunch and definitely recommend Scoutlook. I use it for hunting, fishing and for heading to the shooting range. The thing that really makes a difference to me is the wind meters. The app has this thing called "Scent Cone" that is just awesome. It will tell you (fairly accurately) the wind direction and speed at the current or future time. The wind meter really helps me plan my stand location or fishing spot.

  7. I use Scoutlook its a great app. I like the fact that I can pop my stand locations in on my phone, and then log in from my home or work computer and put in the descriptions, etc from there. I tried AntlerInsanity and didnt like it as much, but it wasnt bad.

  13. Belo, grab some cheap stakes and trellis the beans with netting or twine so they don't start growing out of the raised bed. It'll keep the beans cleaner and healthier.

  14. I totally get what you are saying, but the idea is that DMPs are issued really in response to populations within the WMUs. When fewer DMPs are issued in big sweeping amounts (ie double digit %), that means the overall herd numbers are likely MUCH lower. "Small conservative changes" is the DEC quoted verbiage on how they manage the DMPs - a few % points here or there, not 10-20% (some units were cut in half or worse) or more from one season to the next. There's a difference between maintenance of a herd and wholesale reduction of herd numbers. You are not recovering from maintenance with that type of reduction. You're recovering from too many tags being issued and filled. Flip your question around: If we're consistently at 240k or so as we have been the past few years, why is this dire straits when the population/DEC allowed for a 308k harvest and several years of seasons well above the 240k we ballpark now? If we're putting in deer that we're taking out - the DEC would tell us that the herd size should be X number and that we're targeting to keep densities to that point. I don't think there is a clear target of what the statewide or WMU herd numbers should be. The dirty little secret is that they DO NOT CARE; all they manage to is overpopulation and under-population extremes. They don't care if we harvest 200k or 300k as long as the ends of the spectrum are attended to. Hunters do care, because that's a big difference in success rate and its really the basis for the disconnect between the DEC and hunters. The old adage - I have no idea whether this has changed because I haven't seen anything on in it 10+ years was that 1/3 of the state's deer herd needed to be harvested to maintain it. But again, I haven't seen anything from the DEC on herd numbers, etc. in such a long time because they're really not focusing on it any longer.

  16. Jersey guy, look at our DoubleBeam Brassica Blend. It has PTT, Barkant Turnip, Bonar Rape, DER and Ground Hog Radish. I have had excellent results with this blend.

  17. I drove by a guys house not far from us and that is exactly what he had in his yard 2 big sheep tethered eating away....IMO goats would be better and are used commercially in areas of the country to clear and maintain lands. http://www.rentaruminant.com/

  18. I haven't tried them personally. My BH of choice now is the Rage brand. I have tried the "fixed" head types such as Muzzy, Wasp, etc., but never could get them to fly true???? The Mechanicals will fly like a dart for sure. I have heard some good info on Slick Tricks, but still a little hesitant of spending the money again on a fixed type of head.

  19. Mike - I consulted with the sheep yesterday while they were doing the front lawn. They are both more compassionate and more philosophical than you. The gist of the flock's feelings is that since humans will never reach the pinnacle of evolution of a sheep, it is understandable they should imitate what sheep do and accomplish - imitation being the sincerest form of flattery. They understand humans better than I thought: knowing their competitive nature - which explains human attempts to achieve lawn perfection (perfect length, use of fertilizer and pesticides. As an aside, they also make some comments about human commuting habits also being an imitation of sheep behavior while 2 young rams butted heads.

  23. Thanks for taking the time to watch folks. I should have shot the fire scene differently. Every shot made the woods look dry as a bone when actually we had just had a major snow (for Georgia) and it was nearing the end of the thaw. I was only able to get a fire started because I found some pine heart. But I really thank all of you who took the time to watch and for lending feedback.

  28. First, I am a certified Waterfowl ID Instructor on Long Island. Very few of us here and fewer classes. BTW, probably will give a class for SSWA on Long Island this Fall. Secondly, by far my favorite book is SUCCESSFUL WATERFOWLING by Zack Taylor. Why? His writing style, he is old school, and he hunts the salt marsh which very few talk about.
