  1. I'm not a trophy hunter, but won't shoot a spike either. Yesterday I had this guy feed in to 20 yards then bed with his forward shoulder facing me. I knew I could make the shot but figured I'd wait him out. 20min later I hear my nephews truck and see him park, the buck could see him too. I knew he was going bolt as he started to "lift", so I shot. Bolt hit him just in front of the shoulder. He went 80 yrds. Arrow took out heart, lungs and liver.

  2. Sat out in a hub blind in Mendon for a little over 4 hours . Didn't see a thing . As I walked out to my car , I saw 9 deer in the cut down soy bean field across the road . There was at 2 2 bucks . The deer don't seem to want to cooperate . If rain isn't forecasted for Saturday , we may give Geneseo another try .

  3. Holy crap! Ask him if he, or any buyer he finds, has a brother or cousin for me. I have toyed with the idea for several years about selling and returning to Alaska, or seriously downsizing with a small place out by Rochester to be near my daughter and grandson. It never hurts to ask, so it may be time to ask a realtor who has connections with these type of buyers. Still, my fingers are crossed you get to hang onto your spot

  4. Right you are, I was using the pre-Bidenflation cost. It looks like a 6 day, guided, est 85% success, Newfoundland moose hunt is up to $ 6k now. Even with that inflated cost, Luber would still be ahead, when it comes to cost per pound. ($ 6k for 500 lbs of moose meat compared to $3k for 100 lbs of whitetail meat.). He’d be getting 5x the (better) meat at just double the cost.

  8. I use them all the time especially for hard to get stuff. In these days of jumping through hoops when purchasing firearms related items transactions are pretty straight forward and not too bad. Good experiences so far. I just purchased a Thompson Center Encore action, the pain in the ass part was when I had to do the paperwork when I picked it up from my FFL. About 45 minutes of crap plus extra fees. Al

  11. Couldn’t get out this week. Had to get everything accomplished at the office before we head to Illinois this afternoon for a week on a bow hunt. People will think i am crazy , but I would rather stay here and hunt my farm. We put a lot of work into it snd have a couple nice deer we want to see on the hoof, especially that big 6. This trip is my nephew’s dream hunt. He is a great young man and deserves this trip. Wish you all safe and good hunting.

  12. Some Hog hunting action from the boys on the Airedale board, having done a bit of Hog hunting with dogs I can say it was a blast. These dogs "catch" so they are outfitted with cut vests to prevent injury from tusks. Al

  13. With the threat of temperatures rising to close to 70 degrees over the next couple days the pressure was on to get my deer cut up as quickly as possible. After my first and very hectic day back to work yesterday I immediately got to work on it when I got home. I never even ate dinner yesterday. With my wife doing the canning we got 7 quarts done. There is another close to 7 quarts to can this morning. I have several pounds cut and ready to make jerky tonight, and the hind quarters and back straps in the freezer temporarily. It looks like I beat the warm weather buzzer.

  14. Pickled vegatables yesterday with my "crew". Mom n dad are getting older, slowing down quite a bit, but they love to help us do the work to put food away. 14 quarts, 3 pints pickled vegetables (cauliflower, celery and carrots). 2 quarts, 1 pint pickled brussel sprouts. 4 pints pickled leeks. 1 pint bell peppers, 1 pint hot peppers. 4 pints pickled red onions.

  17. Here’s how it went down this morning. I posted on this site I was headed for my stand. The drive up the hill on my wheeler had to be slow because water was being thrown everywhere from all the rain. Still, from the house it takes little time for me to drive up, walk to my stand and settle. I was in and just ready at 7:05 when my phone started ringing from my wife’s phone which is totally not like her. I didn’t know if it was her or my grandson playing with her phone so I called them back. I was talking as quiet as possible and they were not responding so I hung up and texted them at 7:06. My wife responded to my text, and we made sure each other was ok, and I asked to not be called again unless it was necessary. As I was putting my phone in my pants pocket without dropping my bow that was in my lap while sitting down, I just glanced up to my left and there is a deer totally broadside standing there. My immediate thought was that it was a big bodied doe, I was without question going to shoot if possible, and being around 20 yards wondered if it had seen me. I never actually looked at its head and instead focused on where I wanted the arrow to hit. The deer just stood there as I raised my bow, aimed and released the shot. I knew immediately it was a good shot because I heard the thwack but not the dreaded crack sound of hitting a shoulder. I was pretty sure it was a pass through shot. The deer bolted about 30 or 40 yards uphill and just stood there. Then for one of the few times of my bow hunting experiences the deer went down in view. At 7:13 I texted my wife I just shot a big doe and had it down. When I climbed down and went to the deer I discovered it actually was a spike on side presenting to me and a fork on the opposite.
