  1. A friend of my son had asked him if we would take him deer hunting some day. His friend Danny had never been deer hunting and wanted to get a deer. We took Danny out this morning with us. It was his first time deer hunting and my son put him in a 2 man ground blind with him to teach him. In the first hour Danny was able to bag a big doe. The joy and exhilaration Danny displayed was priceless. My son taught him how to field dress a deer and we helped drag her out. Take a new hunter hunting with you when you can. We couldn't be happier for him.

  2. Shot the oy deer I saw yesterday, a medium sized doe. Normally I would pass on the thing, but spent so much time in stand it was after 3PM I felt like I had to make a move otherwise I would regret it. Have family obligations so cannot get out for the next week. When I was field dressing in the parking area another hunter came by and expressed regret that both he and his GF had passed on her in the morning and they hadn't seen anything since. One of those days I guess.

  4. Went out for a couple of hours this morning and as Yogi Berra would say it was Deja vu all over, an almost exact copy of yesterday's morning hunt. The squirrels were active (saw a Black One) just a smallish Doe was seen feeding, and in comes the Turkey mob raising all kind of Cain, and the Deer takes off into the thick stuff tail up. I leave for home and went and picked up another load of hay. GroundHog Day! Al

  5. This old stand served me well in the Bowles of Letchworth State Park. Good news is I only lost the lock out of the deal as it pinched between the tree’s.

  7. Sat in a ladder stand today from 6am until 3:30 pm . I had enough for the day . Saw a doe through the woods at 8:30 then another at 9:30 . Couldn't get a shot . My 2 sons and grandson all got a deer . I failed . When I got up to where I was going to park my ATV , I saw about 6 deer run into the cut down bean fields about 400 yards away . Got hold of my son to get hold of my grandson to let him know deer were headed his way . A short time later , bang . He shot a small buck . Almost forgot to mention , it was cold out !

  9. Not much action on the hill until it started to snow pretty good that seemed to jump start em. I only seen one running through a patch of hardwoods but couldn't tell what it was but heard quite a few shots. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using Tapatalk

  10. Saw two big doe in our large cut grass field this am, then a small fork walked up to my tree and ate some apples then walked off. Then two fawns run up to my stand and grazed a little. About half hour later a buck came down their trail but didn't come over the property line. Then another bugger buck did the same thing. Then I heard shots on my neighbor's land lol. Bunch of shots so hopefully he missed. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

  11. Only deer seen today was a small doe on my way out this morning, and tonight at 4:05 an equally small spike buck. His spikes were pushing the 3 inch mark, if not a bit longer. He was browsing along the mowed trails in my blackberry patches and kept looking up at something, but whatever he was watching never showed up. Tonight with the weather, it felt much more like the last day of muzzle loader than the second day of regular season.

  12. Sitting in my still only half built elevated stand/building for the last couple hours. It breaks most of the wind and at least keeps the sleet/snow off me. I can now see I have much brush hogging to do. It’s tough to see much with all the overgrowth. I’ll tackle it mid day tomorrow.

  16. Heading up to the hill shortly going to try a mid day sit from 10-2. I've never specifically targeted these hrs but I have heard lots of hunters who swear by them. I'm guessing one reason why would be all the hunters getting up from a early morning sit are pushing them around. If no luck I'll come out for lunch and then go to another spot for the last cpl hrs of light. Good luck to all those out. Sent from my moto g power (2022) using Tapatalk

  17. From what I am seeing knives that fall under some kind of a design criteria get the no ship seal of approval, it is not any one single manufacturer or vendor. Like I said above I put in my cart similar type knives from Kershaw, Case and others from different sellers that would be flagged for no ship to my address. An example of another no ship knife below. The kicker is the extra blade kits being sold separately for these knives can be bought and will get shipped???? Are background checks and added fees next? I did go to ebay and found the same knives at a slightly higher price and got them ordered with no apparent problem. Al

  20. Slowest opening day I can recall, only 7 shots by 8:30 am and things went silent with no sightings. I will be back out in morning in 9A to give it another try.

  23. Went down to my oldest son's property in Honeoye Falls to give it a try . I was in the blind at 2:30 . About 3:30 , a small racked buck with a decent size body showed up around 20 yards from me . I put the 20 yard dot on him and took the safety off . The safety made a click sound , the deer heard it and looked my way . When it turned it's head I pulled the trigger . This was the 1st time I ever had a shot at any deer with the crossbow . The deer bolted and took off in the direction that it came from . I found my bolt as the shot was a pass through . I couldn't spot any blood . I had called my son and he was on the way home . He told me to wait for him . Matt and Blake ( grandson ) came out and we started looking for blood . Speck here and there . Matt spotted it in the neighbor's woods about 30 yards onto that property . Recovered the deer and Matt should be butchering it right now . I doubt that I would have found the deer without help . Shot the deer on the left side with a Rage Expandable .

  24. So I was doing a little early Christmas shopping for some stocking stuffers on Amazon. I decided to get a couple of the Outdoor Edge replaceable blade knives. When I put them in my cart I got a message telling me they will not ship those knives to my address. Seems certain knives fall under some sort of restriction, for the heck of it I put several types of knives in my cart, some were OK and would be shipped while others get the no shipping to my address message. Can't seem to get anyone from Amazon to explain what the heck is going on. Is there some kind of new knife law on the book? I don't know but it stinks. Al
