This is a sincere question, would you have still done the above if you still lived on LI and had a full time job. I do extremely well for a city slicker, but I could see things change if I lived at camp and didn't have a full time job. I think we all have reasons for what we do. The problem is there are some on here that speak to others in condescending ways because they don't aspire to harvest what they consider a trophy.

Unfortunately it happens. Trapping conditions now are at their worst unless you are a water trapper. At least you know you can catch a coyote and that is a good start.

I’m sure I passed 20+ bucks (within killing range of the weapon in my hands at that time) and I’m no better for it. Lol So much depends on deer density numbers, proximity to hunting grounds, amount of time said hunter has to devote to this and on and on. What animal and how a hunter chooses to fulfill his desire's is a personal matter.

It has been two years since we lost our house due to fire. Since that time the insurance company has given us nothing but grief and we still have not received payment for the amount of coverage we are entitled to and paid for. That being said we have found NUMEROUS people that have had the same or worse experiences. Insurance companies across the state are not paying claims or not paying claims in a timely matter. Through this process we have discovered there was a bill introduced in 2021 that would give policy holders a way to dispute. We are trying to get this bill moving and hopefully passed so EVERYONE in the state would have a voice if something should occur. I encourage you to read and support Senate Bill S6813A/S1797: NY State Senate Bill 2023-S1797 (nysenate.gov) There is an identical bill in the assembly: A7285A: NY State Assembly Bill 2021-A7285A (nysenate.gov). My grandmother was full blood Cherokee, raised on the reservation. From a very young age, I knew I had to hunt. It was something deep inside my soul, and still is. I would go with her every summer to visit our relatives down in NC. From my great uncles, and others, I learned some early skills. I never had a father that hunted. But the old farmer I worked for since age 12, at the end of our road did! He and his buddies took me under their wing, and got me started deer hunting. I'd already began small game hunting on my own. They were very successful hunters, and killed deer every year, back when deer numbers were nothing like today! I carry with me the traditions and memories from those younger days, each time I hunt. It's what made me who I am today. Now that I've put a half century of deer seasons behind me. I'm most proud of not the deer I've killed myself. But the many young hunters I've mentored, as I passed the torch that was given to me. So that one day they will pass it along as well. The fire from that torch, still burns hot within me. That completes the circle.

It's ALL just hunting! From the hunter who just wants to put any deer in their freezer. To one that passes multiple bucks, looking for "the one" or anything in between. We are all individuals. With different asperations and goals. Different priorities, and amounts of time, that can be given to hunting. One should never feel superior, or lesser, because of what they choose to hunt!! And one should NEVER as a sportsman, put themselves above, anyone else because of how they choose to hunt!! It's as simple as that. It does not have to be a big argument. Or a condemnation of others, because they hunt a different way, or hold a different view. I stayed out of the thread that was closed. I don't want to start pointing fingers here either. But it was closed because of one person. The detriment of that thread was not the thread itself. But someone with a bigger opinion of themself than the opinion of those participating in that thread.

Yes, and whichever way one chooses to go about it it's still called "hunting". The meaning of the word doesn't change. Hunting has been around forever and I'm sure the hunters of 1000 years ago weren't challenging themselves and holding off for the biggest or best. They killed what they could to survive. We obviously don't need to hunt to survive these days but again the concept is the same as it always was.

I keep saying I do not believe we are going to be able to vote our way out of this mess. It's time to make a stand. Everyone in Texas should stand up to the Feds if they show up and let them know they will fight if they have to. Then anyone who wants to volunteer to go down there and help resist the Feds should go there ASAP. I firmly believe all of this leftist nonsense will end once people stand up and say this is where we draw the line. Let the Fed know they will have to fight the people if they want to do this. If they choose to fight, then we know they've intended to enslave us all along. "If war is to come, let it come in my time, so my children may live in peace."

Alot of snow up that way. Much easier to catch a cat on the porch that it is to chase down a rabbit. Nice shoveled walk and driveway.. much easier. Sister-inlaw had a little dog taken off her porch a few years back . She was lucky to be coming up from the horse barn and seen it struggling with the dog still being attached to a long line. She chased it down and it dropped the dog. Dog was ripped up pretty good but it survived . Kill them all is my opinion.

I will say that the constant and incessant bragging and putting down those that hunt differently than you do, gets pretty damned disgusting in a real short time. But you know that and still keep on doing it anyway. I don't think that anyone is telling you that your attitudes toward hunting are wrong, so who here needs to hear you constantly blathering about how great you are and how all others are all doing it all wrong. I don't know how this can be news to you, but that is not for you to say. That all fits in with my earlier comments about how these kinds of comments are part of what is driving our numbers down. Nobody needs to hear that kind of crap all the time from anybody. It seems weird that anybody has to point that out to you. I think you have to be intelligent enough to understand how those kinds of comments can get pretty incendiary in a hurry. I have to wonder what kind of a personality has to keep trying so hard to impress people. You hunt the way you want, and nobody really cares. It's just common decency to spare us all the bragging comments and put-downs for those that have different hunting goals than you have.

It is like I always say.....It is not the Politicians that are responsible for our sad broken state. It is the goof-ball voters that vote them in and those that do not vote them out.

I believe that there is something in our DNA that reminds us that our basic humanity is rooted in a predatory background. Yes, most humans tend to try to fight that basic built in factor of human existence, and some of us are a bit more honest about our need for the chase and the kill. We have always been meat eaters, and there is the need for the kill if you are going to eat meat. That is the result of a predatory existence. The need to hold a death-match with some other critters is written into our human genetics. We have a basic need to hunt that is much older than ourselves. There is a competitive aspect to hunting too as we set our efforts against prey animals. It is us versus the natural abilities that nature has given our prey. It's another thing that is written into our genetics. Yes, I know that it makes some people uncomfortable to face human nature in this way, but I believe that this is the basic thing that motivates us even when we don't care to think about it in these terms.
