  1. After listening to the reporting, I think it was a fair verdict.
  2. Not opening day, but hopefully Sunday. I'm going to be taking the old Remington 760 that was given to me this summer on condition that I send a photo of the deer I take with it. I took it out last Monday, and it's still hitting right where I want it to. I really hope I can get a deer that would like it's photo taken with it
  3. Is he running again? I thought it was Lee Zeldin that was the top on the Republican ticket...
  4. Not Federal, but just saw this pop up on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FranksGunShop
  5. I used to hunt a small 5 acre postage stamp looking woods in Illinois. We killed a lot of deer out of that woods, it pretty much had 1 trail running through the middle of it that the deer would use going from a feeding area to bedding. Most times of year it was like clockwork when they would come through.
  6. I can't go Saturday morning due to a work conflict, but I'm really thinking about setting on the edge of a thick/swampy area on Saturday afternoon to see if I can catch something holed up there. I'm a little concerned about dragging something out of there if I knock it down though. I guess I can cross that bridge if and when I get there. With a 2 year old and a newborn at home, my hunting time is going to be in very short supply this year, so I'm hopeful I can connect quickly. Good luck everyone!
  7. I always find that the ads on here are pretty spot on with my needs... Seriously though, I was looking at getting a Nintendo Switch for a Christmas present earlier, and now the top ad on here is asking me if I want to play online video games. Sometimes they are completely random though.
  8. I thought this one was pretty cool.
  9. Got this on a cam next to a creek. I’m thinking fisher, but did have a porcupine on the same cam on a different night. What do you think? Disregard the times, my am/pm is wrong.
  10. I read your story in the harvest thread. Sounds like a rollercoaster of a day. I hope your buddy is okay.
  11. I'm usually landing around 15-20 feet, though I'll try to go as high as the surrounding canopy and the tree I'm in will let me . I have done some on bluffs where I'm a good 25 fee up and just eye level with the top of the bluff.
  12. Thank you to all veterans for your service.
  13. Pretty much, he moves them around a bit, but they have paths all over the woods. It’s impressive to watch them maneuver through the trees with those horns.
  14. Got these from near where my blind is set up. This is my first foray into cams, it’s kind of fun. One buck and plenty of horns
  15. Grampy nailed it. This site has been a great resource for me as a hunter that is new to NY. I’ve learned a lot, but have had to navigate some of my own issues with content. As it stood, I would not encourage any of the youth hunters and shooters that I work with to visit this site due to some of the content present primarily in the “Daily Chuckle” thread and the political section. I enjoyed the chuckle thread, but there was a lot of NSFW stuff there. I also think the Political section is an unnecessary part of the forum that has more negative impact than positive. I guess that’s another issue though, and easy to avoid. I hope Chef comes back, I enjoyed most of his posts.
  16. I bought a used pair from a place up near Lake Placid last year. $40, and they are the right size for me. They are an older pair of Tubbs, the bindings are a bit of a pain, but work well. I’d recommend researching what you need as far as size for your weight, and grabbing a used pair.
  17. Hi Everyone, We have set dates for our February instructors training in Ballston Spa, it will be February 25-27. If you have any interest in passing down your knowledge and experience to the next generation, we would love to welcome new instructors. The weekend long training will be dedicated to a discipline of your choice (Shotgun, Rifle, Muzzleloader, Archery, Air Pistol, Hunting or Living History). The goal is to train adults to instruct youth in a 4-H Shooting Sports program. If you have any questions, you are more than welcome to send me a message, however, unless you are in Saratoga County, I will probably end up connecting you with your county's 4-H program. There are other trainings scheduled across the state for next year, so if Ballston Spa is a trek for you, there may be something closer (Western NY, Long Island, etc.) Thanks for considering!
  18. Awesome! Great find!
  19. Congratulations! I hope your retirement is a long and enjoyable one!
  20. Maybe the sign is new? We always take that road to get to her appointments and I didn't notice it until last week.
  21. I’m the same way. I grew up hunting private land in Illinois, and the thought of navigating public land when I moved out here was a big concern and deterrent for me. I was fortunate enough to get permission to hunt a small patch of private ground last year, so I still haven’t had to cross into that arena. An option is to download an app like HuntStand or even get a plat map, look-up landowners and make some cold calls.
