  1. House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. Outside of “The Wake” (written in Shadow Tongue) which I highly recommend for historical fiction fans, this is my first truly experimental novel. I’m about 50 pages in, and it’s strange. Looking forward in the book, it will get a whole lot more strange. I always wondered why I couldn’t get this book on my ereader, but now I realize that it probably couldn’t deal with the strange format.
  2. I’m in Ballston Spa, so not much of a stretch to get to Galway.
  3. Welcome! If you ever want to hunt further north (Saratoga area) just let me know!
  4. Thanks everyone, I should have updated that I found someone locally near Galway. If anyone is looking I can give his information.
  5. Just a reminder, the 4-H Shooting Sports Benefit Auction is tomorrow (October 15th) and items are available for viewing and left bids today and tomorrow. Lots of good stuff! https://www.auctionzip.com/Listings/3480768.html
  6. I'll keep my eye out for one
  7. Part of me wonders if it was a bear, if it wasn't just coincidental. Or perhaps it was drawn in last week and has been in the area since. I will say, I've been in New York since 2014 and have yet to see a bear, even though I'd really like to. Something we never dreamed of seeing in Illinois.
  8. Just got a call from the farmer I hunt on asking where I left my gut pile the weekend before last. I told him, and asked if it was an issue, which he said no. However, last night he said he and his wife were sitting outside and his cows came tearing up through the woods towards the house and were all out of sorts. He said they listened and could hear some grunting that sounded like a bear back in the woods. They were out looking for some sign where I left the gut pile today, but hadn't found any. Where I hunt is open pasture and woods, with fenced hay fields in them. My question is this. I killed a deer a week ago last Sunday, October 4th, and I figured that gut pile would be gone by the next day. He said he didn't find the gut pile, but would a bear be drawn to it even if it was pretty much gone? Keep in mind, though there are a few bears around, there's not a ton of sightings in the Ballston Spa/Galway area.
  9. Thanks FM, I actually figured out that the “Win-Choke/Invector” chokes work in it. I just had to get my hands on some to be sure, but found a set last week to try in it.
  10. I switched to three blade Muzzys several years ago because I was having a hard time finding blades for Thunderheads, and just kind of stuck with them. I don’t know there’s much of a performance difference, but I have a good supply of blades and such for the Muzzys now.
  11. Sorry for your loss. Your sure did turn that little dog’s life around.
  12. Never had an issue with Thunderheads or Muzzys.
  13. My daughter’s first taste of venison. She ate every bit we gave her. Back straps off the doe I took last Sunday in the cast iron skillet with butter and garlic, roasted squash and carrots and pasta salad.
  14. No, I just got it last week. Needed to adjust the iron sights.
  15. Took a few shots to get my 50cal New Englander dialed in this afternoon, but it seems to be ready for the woods now
  16. I don’t see a way of using a sling. I just carry mine in hand or arms. I’ve never made a miles long trek though.
  17. Not a lot I can provide on caliber, but you definitely need to have him shoot according to eye dominance. It may be a bit uncomfortable for him to begin with, but well worth getting used to, he will be a much more successful shooter. As a youth shooting sports instructor, this is one of the biggest fights we have with parents.
  18. It was one of the last barrels from Fox Ridge according to the previous owner, and came from them with screw in chokes.
