Have her watch some professional shooters, sometimes they can mimic them pretty well. It helped me. Is she shooting compound, traditional or long bow? Some pointers to help. Anchor point = consistency Work on getting one that is easy. (I use my lower back jaw bone.) Hold the bow loose and let it form to the hand so she is not gripping the bow or torching the handle. Start off at small distances and as she gets stronger work back. Use a soft target for her with a good back stop so her arrows will stick in the target. Otherwise I see adult women who can barley hit the target beyond 10 yards so tell her this is not a simple task and will take time, effort and practice to get good.

I understand the concerns with EAB program but this would be based on WMU and would need check stations to make it work. This would be in addition to your regular tags and would only be used for hunters willing to enter the program for population control. EX: If you shoot 10 doe in Suffolk County you will get one extra buck tag. All doe would have to be checked into the DEC and upon completion that hunter would earn one extra buck tag for helping with population control. If this is about population control then this would be effective at targeting more doe. What do you think? IF you think this is a bad idea, what would you do to make it better for population control? Ideas???

So true Doc but at least Cuomo put in his two cents to keep us informed how well he is managing our land. What would we do with out him? I guess we would not have those adventure plates, dang!!! Thankfully he is right on top of things that need attention!

Web site would show successful hunters and how much is needed to hit the "mark". Along with a earn a buck program. Shoot X amount of doe and you get a extra buck tag?

I can not bait anything. Personally if I am not on the ground using fair chase I will not do it. Even tree stands I consider cheating. Maybe my ethics are to high but I would not have it any other way. (Not saying I will never get back into a stand again or use a blind!) PS: Just because I will not do it or do not think it is fair chase does not mean I will chastise the person who does it. If you want to hunt from a stand or blind or bait so be it, I will congratulate any successful hunter. Just because I do not advocate some form of hunting does not mean I am against others who do it as long as it is legal!!!

From our first year in Moose River and the poor lost soul David Boomhower who was found deceased. 1991 Because death is just around the corner for those ill prepared in the Dacks. NFA My nickname was always Getsome from the movie Full Metal Jacket as I was a fan. If you are going to be a bear, be a grizzly! My outlook on things, never do anything half as. NFA-GETSOME seemed a little over the top at the time so being a ADK enthusiast I just used NFA-ADK instead.

Funny how I do not see any disbelievers on these facts stating how this is the proper way to handle this issue and that snipers are the only way to get this done. When the facts come out they disappear? Bow hunters are the most cost effective way to control deer population in urban environments. A simple earn a buck would work great. Get two doe down and you get a free buck tag. Deer population solved. Or continue to TEST ideas and throw money at the problem.

Is it on a delay, if so a running or trotting deer might get past? Just a thought. Cold weather possibly effected trigger speed?

I was out yesterday and heard about 7 different turkeys and they were all very vocal early. Saw about 5. Nice job cabin fever, good luck with the youth hunt!!!

Good advice. I would post the land, talk to the neighbors they can be your best friend and help patrol the area and look after things. This will give you a idea who might be using the land. Be nice and friendly show your enthusiasm for what you are doing. First year might be a pain but hopefully that will take care of most issues. Good luck hope it works out for you. Safe Act: Making criminals safer when they rob, steal and murder knowing one less weapon is allowed by the victims. These criminal will be happy when all guns are banned so they are the only ones with them. When will they realize criminals do not care about any laws but are happy when it makes them safer.
