  1. Some nice bucks! Welcome aboard glade to have you!
  2. I thought this was about nuts in trees in Southern NY, sorry! Could not resist!
  3. Very nice! Probably one of the nicest I have seen! Excellent work!!!
  4. A little note on safety. I recommend using some Bright Orange as deer do not see this color and it makes you both easy for humans to see and identify. Identify your prey and place your shot! Map and compass are your best friends, use them often. A GPS is well worth the investment IF you learn how to use it properly but always have a waterproof map and 2 compasses. Always charge your phones before entering the woods, if in a area with out cell service use radios to communicate. Good flashlights are a must but make sure you unload when leaving in the dark or you could get a ticket for using a light to hunt.
  5. Prayers for you and yours Deerthug.
  6. If you find a area to hunt send me a message if you want someone to help you scout the area before the season to set up a game plan. One of the biggest keys to success in deer hunting is scouting the area before you hunt it, IF possible. Send a PM if you are interested maybe we can meet at a rifle range to go over the basics, safety is one of my big concerns. Hunting deer since 1988 and more than willing to share.
  7. Welcome aboard! Clubs are great if you want a little more privacy usually someone in the club is willing to give out free information. A guided hunt is great if you are just looking to get some experience and some knowledge. Public land hunting in NY can get a little crowded unless you head to the Northern Zone. NYS DEC web site has many options for public land, just make sure the area you hunt allows rifles.
  8. I admit to being a fan of Mathews mainly due to the solo cam design, simplicity and effectiveness. Plain and simple the bow is a great match for stalking. That said I liked the draw of the Hoyt very smooth. I agree with using a pro shop vs any major store with out a shooting range. The level of knowledge, tools and ability are hard to compare. Pro shops are specialist.
  9. My condolences to the family and you Lawdwaz. Hang in there and be strong. Every supporting arm is cherished in these times of need. Prayers to you and yours. God Bless
  10. Pathetic how bad our society is getting. NRA does not promote violence and he should take this to court!
  11. Wow he had some brutes to fight with!
  12. Good luck and be safe! Hope for warm weather!
  13. Epic! Thanks for sharing! You sure your not cold? Awesome!
  14. Welcome aboard, enjoy! Glade to have you!
  15. Wow, pretty amazing how he just dropped. Not sure I would have taken that shot but it was dam effective that's for sure.

After helping my brother in the butcher shop many years ago with many deer I came to the conclusion that this was something I did not want to do. I can see it's benefits. A good flexible boning knife and freezer packing, great advice. Youtube has enough video to get you started. Good Luck, hope you have a bunch to try on this year!!!
  17. All Great ideas. Layering I have found works best in brutal weather. Bibs and layered coats work great but a full suit is one of my favorite options when it gets brutally cold. Big downside to this is going to the bathroom! I have a insulated gore tech suit (Over 20 years old!) that comes out in the most brutal of weather days with attached hood and full face mask does the trick for me. A good parker with hood keeps my neck and head heat in. Polypropylene base layer, t-shirt and a fleece sweatshirt, pants and or parker and full suit with hood. Balaclava, neck warmer, glove liners and waterproof gloves. Some clothes can get bulky but if your gun hunting it is not that big of an issue.
  18. Have to make use of what is available when it is available! Hope the warm weather persists!
  19. Bet this post does not make it to 10 pages. The outrage is deafening.
