  1. I was on public land Sunday. From 9am till dark saw some rubs and 3 doe, 1 busted me a half hour earlier then 2 more as I was leaving my ambush spot for them. Nice just to get some action for the first day. So tired, I need a bow sling... Try to get in early Sat and post an area before I go trampling the woods...
  2. Glade you are ok, be cautious. Climbers are for small people IMO. Put a safety harness on your top climber to prevent it from falling and attach a safety harness to the bottom to keep them together. And I agree the dam rainy days can be dangerous in a climber. I use to test mine about a foot off the ground, one at a time then set up the safety harnesses. I find as I get older I do not like leaving the ground as much as in my youth, lol... Again just happy you are ok!!!
  3. Well it is simple as this; If the DEC gave him a permit he is legal, because he is in a wheelchair I am sure HE IS... So enough with the bandwagon lets hang him for not knowing handicap regulations... But I just looked up the regulations and it says he can only qualify with a breathing tube to shoot, if he can pull a trigger he will have to use a bow and lock. Who knows maybe he qualifies... Otherwise I think this is a worthy cause I love to be involved with... This is the only way to have a crossbow this year apparently... Breathing tube only... http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/25022.html I see no regulation that says handicap are excluded except for the above mentioned... http://www.dec.ny.gov/permits/25018.html They all had fun and a few got lucky, awesome!!! Hope they do it again during rifle season!!!
  4. Going to try some calling, doe, fawn, and low soft contact grunt. Did the Ma ma call last year with my mouth and called in 2 doe that busted me, fun calling deer. Found a grunt tube I like for a contact call, I never used them that much but this one sounds good to me. Primos buck roar, I have an adjustable one set to a higher pitch representing a immature buck for contact grunts I like too. I like the snort tube on the roar for prime rut. OK sleep time...
  5. NICE!!! Great to get it on video, hope your success continues to grow!

    Deer

OMG LMAO that is some funny stuff right there. If you don't laugh at that their is something wrong with you, lol... Love how it is only about 3 ft from the blind looking box on the left, tough shot... WOW with Monday hunt being canceled and upstate put on hold, I needed that laugh, THANKS!!! Time to spray my clothes for opening weekend time on LI, can't wait to get into the woods!
  7. Nice! Good luck, hope you get a brute! Last time I was in a field like that was back in 1992-93 in western NY.

    Dogs

I agree you did the right thing. If they are approachable as they seem, I would explain how much hunting is a part of your life and how dogs can interfere with your precious time in the woods. Otherwise get them on film if possible while chasing deer that evidence will go a long way if you have to go the other route. Hopefully they will work with you at least during hunting season! Good luck and a virtual High Five for being a good Samaritan!!! Hopefully they will see your good deed and return the favor...
  10. Even as a smoker I still try to keep my scent down. Unscented deodorant, body wash, fall blend spray. Every little bit helps especially with pressured deer plus you have to shower and washer your clothes so why not try scent control... Smart/Old deer have a tendency to come in down wind when cautious approach is taken. Every little bit helps IMO...
  11. That sucks, hope they catch him!
  12. Keep at it the season is early and weather is hot for day movement...
  13. Use big trees, as large as you can find and get the climber around. It's worth it if the area is good. But yes they are bulky and noisy... I have not used mine in years.
  14. Good luck!!! Hope you get a monster!
  15. Permethrin... Get it, spray it on properly and you should be ok for the most part. Cold weather is great if your talking below 32 degrees. Otherwise do it for your own safety as the chiggers might pose some discomfort but Lyme disease is no joke and can incapacitate you or just make life miserable!!! The 20$ spent on the spray and the little time it takes to do your clothes is well worth it if you hunt Long Island... To me this is as important as a tree harness and will protect my life as Lyme ticks are always present on Long Island. Don't risk your life!!!
  16. +1 And to think, this IS what they want to happen in all states not just NYC and eventually the entire state... Make owning a gun so expensive with ammo, license and fire arm ownership that only the elite wealthy will be able to afford it. Make unenforceable laws on guns so most are illegal to own or sell. Limit ammo supplies and personal use through "limits on purchase". Micro stamp every bullet so it is traceable. Enforce gun registration for every fire arm for extra money for state and federal license yearly. The 6 billion we contribute a year is not enough... Arg and now they are trying to do health care!!! Need I say more as the shut down has begun...
