  1. Welcome aboard! Great site, info and people. Good luck and don't be afraid to ask questions, many people on this site with vast experience and knowledge... And we love helping our vets!!!
  2. Dats Nice!!! I am still looking for Rudolph in the woods though?
  3. Federal 300 grain cast core are nice but the Buffalo bore really packs a punch with 340 grains. I like the heavy rounds with my model 94 but I would stick with 240 in a handgun. Hornady makes great ammo... Great for practicing very consistent so far.
  4. Congrats, bow hunting is fun and addicting!!! Good Luck and be safe! Looking forward to your pictures with a deer!
  5. True example of the great genes in NY! He would make an awesome calendar!!! Get shooting with the camera! What a stud...
  6. Local Pizza La Nonna's makes a chicken club slice that is awesome! 1 Chicken! 2 Onion 3 Pepperoni Glade I just ate...
  7. Does not seem to be working? Just shows,

    First pin

I go by 10 yard increments. 20 - 70. 10 yards and less is about a inch high so I compensation. Really depends on what you like... I find judging distance on the fly easer with 10 yard pins. Good luck with your new bow!!!
  9. No video on the link, it just says nice 6 pt at the bottom... I downloaded it w/real player. Nice video. How old do you think that deer is?
  10. Very nice, Congrats. Great caliber!
  11. Growing and managing your own farm for deer sounds great! In reality you will not hold many big bucks on that property during rut. It is a fact that you can not keep a large amount of quality bucks in one area. The rut will prevent this. Dominance and breading rights will cause the dominant buck to push out lesser ranking individuals. That causes them to roam and find another area where they can be the dominant buck or at least participate in the rut. That being said you can grow doe and they will stay and they attract bucks... They have a much smaller home range and many older doe will not leave their core area. Having set up a great habitat for deer will only help but you can not "Hold" bucks on a few hundred acres of land when they roam about 4000 when healthy and seeking doe in heat. That does not mean you cant have bucks on your property or even set up good sanctuaries that they frequent or consider their core area. You can and should do this but come rut time you can bet they will be seeking out many doe groups. Much of this information obtained through Deer&Deer hunting... Some of our western counties have the highest deer populations and some of the best soil in the state. Many large racked deer are taken from these areas and the trend of passing yearlings and DQM does have an effect on producing larger racked deer. But not everyone participates and that is a big factor in producing record class deer. If you shoot every 3 1/2 - 5 1/2 year old that is a 130-150 class deer you will rarely see anything larger and in NY it is hard for most of us to pass on this type of animal as they are considered trophies. Any 140 class buck I see is in trouble... Trigger control is hard with this caliber of deer with the exception of the most seasoned hunter with many racks under his belt... Hunter density and weather is a big factor in deer herd growth but I don't think the long season has as big an effect as some think. I just feel if they shortened the season it would put more hunters in area's together resulting in more accidents due to high numbers of people hunting at the same time. The fact that NY has such a long season I personally feel is a big factor in contributing to our safety. Less people in the woods at the same time equals safer woods in my opinion. Comparing NY to Ohio or some other state is just not realistic. It is like Comparing LI to the ADK or Catskill to western farm land. Our land, soil, hunter and deer populations vary from town to town and county to county along with our weather... NY has great deer genetics IMO. We have many great deer, land and managers of this great resource. If you grow enough doe, the bucks will come but the bucks are probably not grown on your land... Good reason NOT to kill the oldest doe, she will stay in her core area the bucks know about... Hopefully you have a sanctuary for more than one set of doe's!!! They will KEEP bucks but only for a few days while mating... Then the buck will look for another hot doe, hopefully your second group of them...
  12. Good luck! I looked into leasing but It was much cheaper to keep hunting the great ADK for free... Love the idea just can't afford it... Plus I am on a mission to get at least one more ADK deep woods deer.
  13. You knocking my Heli-m Doc!!! LOL They do come out with some strange names. That name was due to it's weight and I agree after hauling the bow all day it is great to finally have a light bow to carry around. It makes my MQ1 feel like a anchor! Little harder to keep steady when shooting but well worth it when finishing a 8-12 hour hunting day that's usually over miles of rough terrain.
  14. Very Nice! I am after them all... lol Nice selection!!! Good luck with them!!!
  15. That's sucks, hope you catch them.
  16. If you watched the same video I saw it was very impressive about the camera level and how deer perceive it. I have really debated using camera's due to "spooking deer". Keeping the camera above 6ft or more I think is really optimal to avoid detection. Your results seem evident, thank you so much for posting this!!! I still do not like the noise that they make... When I can find one the works in the dark without lights or noise I think I will try them out. Noise and lights are a big determining factor in my trial cam choice along with clarity and battery life... Eventually I will get one when they remove noise and lights, clarity and battery life are acceptable at this point. I have to research them again... Might find one I like now... Nice buck Oblivitar good luck with him!!! Your video is awesome!
  17. Your guild should be able to tell you if you need anything else... Good luck, looking forward to you go pro video, remember to try and keep the cursing down! lol Your deer hunting tools should be the same as bear, again good luck hope you get a monster!!!
  18. Climate is a huge factor. Northern zone winters are brutal. The deer are less than 1 per square mile making bow hunting a hard task compared to other more populated area's of the state. It encourages hunters to try and use last years tags before the season opens. It gives unsuccessful hunters a chance at hunting the woods before the entire state opens increasing their odds. Hunting in both zones I can say they are like night and day!!! Sothern zone has many deer and I am always seeing them when I hunt, usually I have a choice of deer to shoot, just never enough bucks... Weather in the southern zone is not as drastic as above Route 90 (Northern Zone) especially the higher elevations! Lake effect snow has a big effect, the Tug hill area gets pounded along with area's east of it, ask anyone who lives their about snow... That is why I feel the zones where separated, population of deer and hunters, snow and climate conditions... Northern zone has less hunters, deer, food sources and worse climate... Not sure what other reasons you are looking for but that is all I could think of...
  19. That sucks!!! Camera's seem to be the way to go... Good luck! Sounds like kids or a crack addict... ADT signs and other security camera signs should help or possibly get a picture of them...
