  1. Wow real lucky! Yea I think I would call it a day after that!
  2. Some real nice bucks, sounds like he was a great man who really loved the outdoors! Such a shame when we loose one of the good ones! RIP.
  3. Welcome aboard, great to have you!
  4. Ok the most scared I have ever been! Early 90's me and my best friend Shawn get ready for a trip to Long Lake with another group of hunters. We start shopping for food around 10 pm and choose to head up after around 12am. Bad decision! After about 4 hours I start dozing, my buddy keeps slapping me to keep me awake along with playing Metallica as loud as the radio would allow. Well I could not stay awake and fell asleep, so did Shawn! So I wake up with the vibration of the left tire hitting the last of the rumble pads as we go off-road. As I am realizing what is happening I see Shawn wake up at the same time! (I forgot exactly which sign we missed but I think it was for Schroon Lake.) All I could think was that if Shawn turns the steering wheel to stop us from going into the ditch we are going to flip the truck. Well Shawn kept his composure and kept the steering wheel straight as we went down the embankment then right back up the other side then did the same thing all over to get back onto the highway. We where still doing 65 mph when I checked as we got back onto the road, 2 min later we caught up to the other party, I said we NEED COFFEE and we pulled over at the next stop, I did not sleep at all until that night! Adrenaline kept me up after that as I don't drink coffee. That was scary!!! Ran into 6ft swells going around Eatons Neck one night and swamped the engine, that was a bit scary until the waves pushed us in to safer grounds. Dried everything and was ok but for a few minutes it was crazy scary.
  5. Opening day of Pike a few years ago my buddy and a friend tipped the boat over. This was really cold water, pins and needles to the touch. Lucky for them another boater found them and helped them get back in the boat and back to land. Trolling motor got them back in reverse. One guy was in the water up to his chest, lucky they both made it out ok. Thanks to Frank and his brother Micky who save these two! (Met Frank at the dealer I worked at and we fished Saranac Lake a few times together.) Luck for them he was on the lake because I was in another area out of view and could not hear them screaming for help! Back in the early 90's I was on the Great South Bay and got stuck in the fog with only a pair of shorts and a towel. We made it to the Coast Guard station and they told us to sleep overnight, we found a tug boat that helped us through the canal system to get back to the south shore of Long Island. Once out of the canal the fog lifted. Real long night with my buddy and our girl friends at the time. We got back to the dock around midnight, cold and hungry! GPS was not out at the time and we where inexperienced. I have been hit by more sailboats than I can remember! For some reason they seem to target me when I am fishing. I was off Eatons Neck by buoy 13 fishing the "triangle" when a 40ft sailboat along with 2 other 30 ft sailboats tried to turn close to my anchor well one caught it and dragged me the 20ft boat, my anchor and 4 fishing lines about 600 yards before I lost the anchor. Another boat hit me when the idiot captain had his 7 year old steering the boat! Another 30 ft plus sailboat. Got stuck with dead batteries overnight at that same buoy 13 and even though I shot off every flare not one boat responded, this is about a mile in front of the coast guard station. FYI I hate sail boats! And I wonder why I have not boated in salt water for a few years! lol
  6. That was a funny part lol Robhuntandfish!
  7. You are awesome!!! Something the activist will never understand is we love the animals MORE than them! Two thumbs up great job!
  8. Another good one. I would have said the same thing if this happened to me!
  9. Cool video Biz, thanks for sharing. Check this one out. Old video but again pretty cool!
  10. AtBuckjunter and myself did the hunters Rendezvous last year. We did shot placement and I did the calling.
  11. I do fletch some arrows but will never cut them as the carbon fiber is so bad for your lungs. The 90 yard shot was on my first shot of the day on a dot about 6 inches from the edge, slight flinch pulled me off left. I should have done a warm up! Next bow I will be looking for a relatively cheap arrow for target shooting more than hunting as this will become my main target bow. I have noticed that even relatively cheap arrows are still fairly accurate for my needs. The fact that I can buy more will allow "testing" and confirm which arrows I feel are best for longer ranges. I just purchased 3 dozen more so I am set with my Helium for this season, or I might quit if I loose that many! Otherwise the Ritual comes out the end of March I believe, I will test a few bows and choose but I think this is the one for me. Easy of draw and back wall will be key.
  12. Already lost an arrow at 90 yards yesterday shooting at the target BUT! OMG I will need more arrows! lol
  13. We do have a Hunters Rendezvous at Suffolk Archers August 19th, stop in and check it out, great place for new hunters to gain valuable knowledge. We do the shot placement and deer calling along with gear and a bunch of other topics are covered like tracking, scent control etc. We also have tournaments on weekends that start on April 8th with a turkey shoot, come on down and shoot some foam. Otherwise I can take your on a tour anytime you want to just come and check it out. Send a PM if interested.

  15. Simple fix, just end the seasons, let loose the dogs of war! Any weapon any time. Mandatory orange for everyone. After all who do those dam archers who actually have to hold the string back when they are shooting think they are! Why should they get the advantage! Not like they need to get close now that crossbows are allowed we can all shoot out to 100 yards accurately. Make them all use cross bows!
  16. You would actually be at 110 yards with that compensation 2nd low 20 yard pin would be 120 yards.
  17. That is a bit harder to compensate Jeremy K. I would set the first pin at 40 then 50 then the last pin would allow your 60-90 yards then you would compensate for 100. You would use the same size gap between your 10 yard pins increments to compensate above the target. EX: once you have a 100 yard shot you would set the pin at 90 yards and go the same distance above the target between your 40 and 50 yard pins. It is fun to compensate, I use to do it when I used 3 pins but found it was much more fun knowing where the pin should be vs compensation and loosing some arrows.
  18. To line up a 100 yard shot with a 20-30-40 set up you would need to aim with the 40 yard pin then move it up with the 20 yard pin then do it again and again, way to much compensation for that distance. Reality is that if you are shooting this course you would need pins from 40 yards out to 80 or 90 and 5 pins would be needed to get the accuracy over those distances or just use an adjustable. If you have a 70 and 80 yard pin your would just need to put the 80 yard pin where the 70 is located when on target this will get you to 90 yards. This is the video that got me interested last week.
  19. I have a pins at 35-45-60-70-80. To take a 100 yard shot you line up your 80 yard pin and then put it where the 60 yard pin is located. That is how you can compensate when you do not have pins further than what you are shooting. With a singe pin its much harder to figure but I will try try to add the extra yardage on the single pin once I get the new bow, most tape on the HHA sight I have only goes to 80 yards so I will need to start the first yardage at 40 yards so the tape will read 20 yard off. Example: 60 yards is really 80 and 80 will be my 100 yards. Otherwise I will bring both bows in case any issues, one with pins other with single adjustable pin.
  20. http://totalarcherychallenge.com/events/7-springs-pa/ This is the link it starts on a Friday and ends on Sunday June 1,2 and 3rd. You can do 2 days or just one day if you want.
  21. He has some skills! Better than I can draw that's for sure! Pretty close to the actual real thing. Very cool!
  22. Anyone going to the Total Archery Challenge? Saw this on U-Tube a few days ago and my friends signed up this week, so I joined in. Looks like a really cool shoot with some long distance shooting to make it real fun out to 100 yards. We have 4 of us total going should be a good time. If your interested in some long distance fun this is the course for you! Now I just need to get more accurate out past 80 yards! Looks like I might go to a single pin for this shoot, hoping to get a new bow before we go. Looking at the Elite Ritual with optimizer lite sight just need to set it up so I can adjust to 100 yards.
  23. Real easy to get turned around especially in an area you are not familiar with or can not see any land features due to high cover. Probably why I get turned around in swamp so often, I pick up the track and could care less where I end up by the time I realize where I am I have to figure out how to get out. That usually involves going back into the swamp. 2nd year hunting in Warrensburg I got turned around about 30 yards into the woods, lol. Guy hunting with us said meet me on the other side well he went right and we went left and never saw him till we meet back at the house. Funny first day out in the area considering we where basically lost the entire day.
