  1. Funny story. I was hunting Moose River in the snow and was suppose to pick up my buddy Shawn at this bridge area after dark. I get to a spot early in the AM and about a hour or so after first light I see this Doe come charging through the area but she is going back and forth for some reason? I thought it was strange but that she might be trying to dodge a buck or lose a predator. About 10 minutes later I see a hunter trudging through the area right on her track, all I could do was laugh as this area has no doe tags. I pick my buddy up at dark and he tells me about an old man and his son and how they are tracking a BIG ONE and "if he sees it, you know. (It's our deer, your not allowed to shoot him!) lol was a bit pissed off someone would tell another hunter not to shoot a buck they are tracking but then realized it was the same guy tracking the doe!
  2. I had placed too much oil on my guns one year after a heavy rain week in the ADK, next time I took the gun out the scope was defective. Still have the scope and gun, I was happy it was fixed by Bushnell. If you put your guns in a closed case make sure you don't have excessive oil on it or this can happen. I still oil the guns good but no longer case them up after. I also use some old socks to keep the case relatively dry by wrapping the guns in the old socks when I go shooting or hunting.
  3. In suburban area's I do notice they love to hang by houses especially thick cover. Opening day I saw 3 doe bedded 40 yards from the stand after letting them walk at 8am I found 2 more doe in between 2 houses where the brush is so thick it would be impossible to even get a shot off at 10 yards. Both area's where thick and had escape routes for each. It is amazing how much they blend in that thick cover, except when snow is present.
  4. PS: Big THANK YOU to the officers protecting our animals!!! Officers James Davey and Jeff Cox you ROCK!!!
  5. One thing is for sure when you get caught like this the ECO will be watching and checking on them. I also agree this is premeditated poaching no question and should be treated harshly but they will only get a slap on the wrist. Should be a mandatory ban from hunting for a minimum of 5 years for this blatant disregard for New York's deer.
  6. They can survive for months in freezing temps, that is how they can survive winter! 33 is not freezing!
  7. Until the mauling's get out of control then they will say we need hunters. Shame but this is how liberals take over something they really have no clue on.
  8. Happy Birthday Rob-C! Happy B-Day to Grizz1219! Have a great day guys!
  9. Still have over a month to go, wish I could have gotten out this past weekend but it was not in the cards. Going to try for this weekend.
  10. Shooting prey in an enclosed area is not hunting, this is why so many of us true hunters oppose it. The other big issue we have is when others try to claim this deer as a legit trophy and post it on the internet as such. Many of us spend hours and days setting up a location, scouting, trail cams and shooting and when we get a deer we have earned it. When someone shoots an animal under fenced conditions then it is stated to be a legit hunt we get very upset because that type of hunting eliminated the chance of fair chase we so passionately support! That animal has no chance at fair chase so legitimate hunters will always oppose it as "Hunting". Simply put you are shopping for meat with a bullet, no hunting involved. Personally I have no issue with others doing it as long as they don't pass it off as a legitimate hunt!
  11. Its fun! You can take the shoot as serious as you want to. I just do it for fun. This was 2 years ago in NJ. We did Sturbridge Mass this year. They have an iron buck shoot that the guys where shooting 120 yards in the final, good times, tournaments are fun if you want it to be and have a good group of guys. Not sure I would drive over 6 hours for a 3D shoot, probably go to Mass again this year.
  12. I need 4 bullet proof vests please I have plenty of doe.
  13. pt0217 If you check with the DEC they will inform you that you can use a bow during the entire deer hunting season as long as you have the proper tags. Eagle Rider I do not see anything on the DEC web site that says it is open past January. As far as I can see the DEC web site states it is open till the end of January. Bowhunting Bowhunting opportunities include both the regular and bowhunting seasons. Hunters must possess a current bowhunting or junior bowhunting privilege to participate during the bowhunting seasons. The bowhunting privilege is not required to hunt with a bow during regular seasons, but hunters must possess proof of eligibility (either a valid bowhunter education certificate or prior bowhunting license). Bow/Muzz either-sex or antlerless-only tags may not be used during the regular seasons except by junior bowhunters or in WMUs 1C and 3S. In WMUs 4J and 8C, only bows may be used to take deer during the regular and bowhunting seasons. Suffolk (WMU 1C) and Westchester counties (WMU 3S) have separate regular seasons restricted to bows for taking deer (either sex). See Legal Implement Descriptions for definitions of a legal bow. Seasons Big Game Big game hunting is still available on Long Island. There is an abundant population of white-tailed deer in much of eastern Suffolk County. Public hunting is a needed management tool as serious depredation problems occur annually in agricultural fields, nurseries, and to many gardens and ornamental plants. Some areas also have problems with car-deer collisions. Present hunting opportunities exist in the form of an archery season from October 1 to January 31, and a shotgun and muzzleloader season in January. The shotgun season is closely regulated with written landowner permission required of each hunter in addition to his or her big game license. Annually, more than 3,000 deer are taken during these two seasons.
  14. Looking to get out Friday and possibly the weekend. Hope the small amount of snow stays for tomorrow, if so I will try to tracking. Going to shoot the bow tonight.
  15. I had a good week of hunting with some snow in the end. Saw one buck tracked another and saw some doe, one other hunter saw a spike and passed him on the first day. Met some friends from years past and enjoyed my best friend Shawn's son getting his first season in the ADK under his belt. Mike got sick and went home early with Dominick, otherwise it was a good trip. Nov 10 and 11th where some cold days! Overall a good week but a bit somber with us missing another hunter. RIP Greg
  16. Know your trajectory from 5 ft out to your max distance. Never give up, always put your scope on the lowest power and get a bow to hunt deer its much more fun. Explore more area and enjoy the ride while you are able to! Learn tracking (And reading sign!) it is one of the best ways to find and at least for me interpret deer movement and patterns. Even though snow is the easiest way to track learn how to do it without snow because many times you will not have any. Learn how to call deer, besides tracking it has been one of my best tools and underutilized when I was young. Last but not least enjoy the company of your friends and family, like G-Man stated above they are more important than any deer or individual hunt, cherish every moment with them. RIP Greg and Chris missing you guys!
  17. Second rut is on! I have almost 2 months of hunting to go, hope to get out this week and weekend!
  18. No I know of a few hunters with amazing deer that will never get posted, they don't post because they do not want extra competition in the area they hunt. All legal and many above the 170 class. They fear that if they post the deer other hunters will move into the spots they have.
  19. Notice how his left front fell first. Hope he makes it!
  20. I agree you did the right thing. Hunter 0 Yotes 1 they evened the score up.
  21. It does if you are one of the hunters who likes to go in late when other hunters have given up, or if you are one of the hunters like the many trackers upstate that only hunt when snow is on the ground. A short season may give you no snow and no chance at tracking which is how many get there deer who use tracking to hunt.
  22. Yes it can if the deer has a heart attack, otherwise no. Did not even watch the video, I have enough idiots I deal with daily no need to add another.
  23. I would have to agree with infection or disease along with the stress it caused.
