  1. LoL This is our honey hole and we have a real brute in the area. He is 170 or better plus we have a few 135-150's in the area. I am told I have a free pass for my first buck but it is hard to pull the trigger on some of them knowing what is on the camera. I am sure many of these deer I saw that day where the same and just roaming back and forth in the area.
  2. It is not going out of your way to offend people it's going out of your way to not offend people that pisses me off. I am not covering any deer I kill like some of the others I see doing. Want to flip me the bird fine, I got more people giving me the thumbs up. And you know what the questions kids ask about the reality of hunting is something that can spark the interest regardless of how anti thier parents are. That is not "see a deer on top of a car to snap out of it and say "hey, now I get it, my meat comes from a bloody deer on top of a car"" But if a kid asks about hunting he can find out that we do not just kill for pleasure and blood lust but that we do it to survive much like our four fathers did and eat these animals just like we eat chicken, pork or beef. That is the point! Not O wow I see a dead deer now I understand where meat comes from. lol
  3. Don't sweat it Growalot, it's just the internet. Cool story but I would never hunt those woods with them in it after the stories you just told about them shooting at you and killing a friend. Makes me happy I did bow on LI for opening of Southern zone.
  4. Very very NICE! Congrats on you best buck to date! Very cool story, thanks for sharing!
  5. Welcome aboard Froggy! Great site with great people! Enjoy but don't take anything personal we love to argue, lol. 50 years of experience I am sure you have some great stories, looking forward to reading them!
  6. Sounds like a jerk but its his land. Let it go, idiots are hard to argue with and make you look dumb.
  7. That is the reason we have some brutes. We pass some decent bucks that many would be happy with. If you kill them they never have a chance to get some age. A 3.5 even to 4.5 can make a huge difference. Looks like a nice 2-3 and should be a dandy next year.
  8. Many people call them RATS and only want them illiminated. I hate this but when that is the mentality it is hard to have these people treat them with respect. I will always have my deer on the outside of my vehicle if possible and will never ever hide what I do or feel shame in showing people the reality of deer hunting. We kill them! Blood is involved and it is the reality of hunting and I will never hide it, in fact I show it off proudly so others get a bit of reality. More power to this guy who had the deer on top of his vehicle! If I saw him on the road he would get congratulated and a big thumbs up for showing who he is! The idiots dragging deer behind a truck, depends. Not everyone can afford a atv. And many hunters do not drag deer anymore unless it is behind some motorized vehicle. I do believe you are right that we as hunters should show more respect to these great big game animals we hunt because the rest of the population thinks they are beautiful animals never to be harmed or they think they are rats that should be eliminated. I give both a taste of reality when I get a deer and do not hide what I do by covering or trying to hide my kill. Anyone behind me will see the deer accept for when I use the bed of the truck. And with the ticks on them I prefer the cargo carrier. I know many people who want to hide the reality of deer hunting and killing an animal but if more people understood why we do it and kids saw the reality and asked questions they might have a better understanding when they grow up. VS hearing hunting is just bad don't ever do it and never kill an animal it is so bad. Steaks for dinner with ham wash up kids. I will not be politically correct when it comes to hunting EVER or hide what I do. I have gotten into heated arguments with some anti coworkers but they never win and reality is hard to argue. I hide the guts after a kill and mount my trophies and glorify them, love them and yes hate them all at the same time, lol. How is that for a rant, lol. Clean up time! Arg work Monday.
  9. Aww that sucks! Do you have any pictures of him? They did not show in the post above. Do you have any trail cam pics before this happened? At least you get to harvest the meat. I would call the DEC and let them know the situation, you should be able to use a doe tag but with the antlers cut off I would let the DEC know so you do not have any issues. They might even give you a separate tag.
  10. Very nice buck, this is the class of deer we are trying for on LI. Must be outside the ears to be a shooter. Nice that one of our enlisted men gets not only a chance at a brute but actually scored on one!!! Congrats to your cousin on an awesome buck! Go Marines!!!
  11. ok I would keep going in the direction he was heading and then try to criss cross the area looking for where he bedded. To post pictures click on more reply options next to where it says Post. After you scour the area try driving up and down the next road looking for him in back yards and any place you can see from the road. Not a bad Idea to walk the road next to where the tracks are to see if he made it that far, just do not walk the road with your bow.
  12. How far did you track it in the 40 min? I would get as many people in the area to search if deer search is not available. Normally I would volunteer but I am in recovery mode today after 2+ weeks of hunting. Sounds like the wound clogged up but he is probably dead. It is not impossible for me to come out today. Give a call if you might want me to help. A few more details needed before I pack up and drive out but I will PM you my cell #.
  13. Wow that sounds like he really had fun, great post! That guy who claimed it was his deer would not have walked away so easy if I was thier but with the kids present I understand holding back, what a jerk! A day he will never forget, those remarks put the icing on the cake. EPIC hunt and this kid is now hooked for life! Congrats on one of the best days in the woods I have ever heard of for a new hunter! You just made a hunter and best friend for life! Father son just does not get any better than this! Awesome!
  14. That is tough, I would try deer search. Look for crows! I would walk those tracks for at least another 400-600 yards and look on both sides for white or antlers sticking up. Sometimes they are hard to see from one angle but stick out like a sore thumb when look at from another direction. Good luck and keep us posted! What town are you in?
  15. 11/21/15 Full day hunt with a early brake for breakfast/lunch in between. WoW what a day. I saw a total of 40 deer for the day and heard more moving around that where out of sight. Had one spike and a 4, all the rest where doe or fawns. Saw 13 in the early morning sit and 27 in the evening sit. Between me and my buddy we actually saw 89 deer. Amazing day of sightings with movement a good portion of the day. The nice one I saw a few days earlier did not show and the brute we are after showed late and retreated back over the hill. Hope we get a crack at one of these brutes otherwise doe season should be in full swing for us after Thanksgiving.
  16. VERY NICE! And it has some character to it with that broken G3, he was a fighter!!! Congrats on an awesome buck!
  17. 11/20/15 Late morning to early afternoon hunt. Saw 1 doe and 2 fawns going in and 2 more doe when my buddy pushed. Had a 57 yard shot though some brush but it was a bad shot even though she posed for 2 minutes so I never drew the bow. Hope tomorrow the big boys are cruising again, noticing the scrapes are not attended to for at least a week +.
  18. Your not going to get that much meat off the little one. But its your tag and your choice.
  19. One of the beauties about hunting is seeing and hearing the woods wake up that first hour of sunrise!
  20. For some the pictures will never capture the memory. Not everyone lugs a camera into the woods or has time for a "good shot" lol. And most are just happy at the bounty. One thing is for sure if you can capture it on film good it will be remembered like that by all who where not at the hunt.
  21. Nice buck! Congratulations!
  22. He is one of my best friends so as much as I would have like to throw him in the river he usually gets a free pass. He knows next year that the music issue will not be tolerated. I try to let everyone enjoy their time off regardless of what they want to do. As long as it is safe! Some go up just to get away from the rat race a few days and hunting is not the real priority.
  23. 11/17/15 Just got back from the big ADK trip and my buddy said he was hunting in the AM. I was way to tired. Then a few hours later he said PM hunt, be over by 11:30 AM! I was in! 11/18/15 Warm day 54 down to 52. Had a doe come in on me but this gray squirrel would not leave me alone to the point where he was chirping about 4 ft from my head on a branch! With the doe staring directly in my direction I was frozen for almost 45 minutes or so. She milled around the area for another 15 minutes before exiting the same direction. 4pm with only a half hour left I stand to have a wide view. About 10 minutes later a nice basket 9 or 10 came in but really presented no shot and was just small of what I wanted about a 120. Tough to pull the trigger on one when much larger roam the area but I have two tags and one is starting to burn a hole! My buddy took down one I would have passed. 10 pt or 7 depending on how you judge. Nice buck but again tough to take something like this when other beasts are in the area, at least so far!
