If they could they would take every gun! Then they would explain how they are not responsible for your safety.

Cool site! Love the tips!

Post a picture of the climbing aid. Do you have a safety harness?
-
Looks like a solid tree stand. This came with a safety strap and probably a safety strap line. I would throw them away! Get a new safety harness that fits you good and is easy to put on and get a new safety strap to tie around the tree above the climber, that is your safety line. Make sure you have a really good safety line attached from the bottom to the top climber. (Loosing the bottom climber can be a real pain!) I would shy away from using it with certain trees on wet days as you can slide down. Good luck with your new stand!

Yes, if it is not your property and area is limited sometimes it is part of hunting. Other times it is the only main trail through the property so neighbors will put a stand over it regardless of what other hunters are doing. Residential hunting can have this issue as well.

Speedy and well healed recovery!!! Gun season is very close! We will leave you plenty Doc, heal well so you can shoot straight. Looking forward to this years story! Hope it is the best season yet! Good luck!

It will happen!

So true, in the heat of the moment if you do not control your breathing and heart rate it's easy to do something wrong. Between lining up the peep perfect, good form to taking a good shot and the many obstructions like harness, rest or tree limbs, then add in distance judgment and shooting ability and things can get out of control real quickly. Try not to concentrate so much on the animal as much as that quarter behind its shoulder that you want to X. Sometimes that precise aim takes your focus off the animal and puts it more on the shot placement, distance and form resulting in a better shot.

Suppose to be warm her on LI. If my cold gets better I am suppose to be off Thursday until the 22nd. You can bet I will be out hunting this week, this warm weather will not stop a buck chasing a doe in heat. This is the weekend to really step up and put your time in. Anything can happen at any time so I pack a lunch and stay all day! First weekend in November should not even be a question about if you should go it is really about how long CAN you go!

Never forget my second year hunting with my best friend and hunting partner Shawn in the Catskills 1989. It was our last day and we where heading out just before dark. Walking down a dirt trail covered in rocks we where not exactly quiet, a buck must have been on the side of the trail and at about 20 ft he found out we where not deer! His snort growl was loud and fierce! (We both jumped!) Then he bolted in a direct line away from us, anything in his way was broken, snapped or ran through for 50+ yards and he was not stopping! The sound of this beast crashing through the woods at tops speed was something I had never heard before and his growl at us was unnerving to say the least! We both had our guns at the ready and said what the hell was that! Gave us a good scare, lol. My first close encounter with a big buck and he scared the hell out of us!

He was mature enough to shoot disregard any other comments about age! You want to start a threat about when a buck reaches maturity go right ahead but don't reign down on another hunters kill that he feels is mature enough to shoot. This winter was pretty hard on some area's and this will affect antler growth, he is the buck that survived the 2014-2015 winter and that is a feat into itself! Nice buck! Congrats!!!

DEC Timber Rattler Snake Den in Bath, NY - Video
NFA-ADK replied to HectorBuckBuster's topic in Trail Camera Pictures
I understand the trepidation about snakes. They kill rodents for me so I like them! Personally I have owned a couple of 12 and 14 ft pythons and would take a bunch of snakes over rodents any day of the week. NO I do not like poisonous snakes but like a few have stated they do not come after me so I leave them alone. If the DEC made this location known it would be destroyed by those who fear these predators. Just like cats their evolution has not changed much. No point in changing perfection! -
"The new spot has great potential, i think and I got to see what it looks like when a buck grunts while sniffing a path 20 yards away, oblivious to me even though I was upwind of it on the ground!" That is cool! Awesome experience!

Unfortunately the string when released can do the same thing if it has presser on it. Not exactly the same as the limb but same effect of pushing the bow up.
-
When your lower bow limb is on a hard object like a rest when you shoot the release of the limb will cause your bow to pop up causing a high shot to about 5-8 inches. Get that rest out of your way, they are great for guns but not so much with a bow. And make sure you are strapped in! Good luck Core, I have faith in you. Like you said do not sweat it and keep doing your thing!
-
I have done that in practice. When your limb hits the object it causes your arrow to go much higher!!! This is due to the limb flex. That was a honest mistake, make sure when you shoot your limbs are clear, if you do hit something it will throw your shot off that extra bit plus the 5 yard misjudge and that will be a miss every time. Don't sweat it, it happens. Just write it off as another mistake you will never make again! And get back out their! I want to see your pictures this year! Keep at it I have faith you will get it done! Get back in the saddle and GETSOME! Only 30 more mistakes and you will start to catch up to me! And I have only been out 2 times this year, lol.

My first with a bow, I was told if I want to help out I need to start shooting doe. (To please the land owners.) So after many years of passing them, now they are on my radar. After passing 3 early that where pushed by a 4pt I spotted 2 button bucks but could not see the doe. She popped out at what I though was 20 yards but after reviewing the video she was probably closer to 18 yards. Arrow broke off and spun around the cavity, broad head was stuck in the entry wound, found that out the hard way and found the rage was still sharp! You can hear her crash right after the shot. She was 40 yards from the hit. This is the video. Shot is after the 1 min mark. Buddy made me wait until dark to find her, his property so I comply. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok

Sucks that the weather was not good for you. I understand your caution in this remote area solo. Hope you continue on your adventures, your videos are awesome!

Yes they can figure you out that's for sure. Big difference between doing this in a stand vs ground blind or even harder while still hunting. Sent is the X factor when they go downwind to check you out! Don't overcall! Deer are usually subtle unless stressed or chasing during rut. I usually start off by tickling first for 2-4 times about 3-5 seconds, give it a few min listening for foot steps then if nothing after 10-15 min I will get really loud starting from a slight tickle and progressing fairly quickly. This requires some branches and leaves to break and really make some noise. While hitting the horns together I will alternate with snorts, stomping the hell out of my feet or the antlers and brake branches, bushes and grunting, loud breathing included. Cover like stated is the most important thing! This is a knock down fight between 2 bucks, if you listen to the sound they make with their feet in the leaves, this is close to what I try to imitate but I also brake branches and sticks if the area has that type of cover. EX: Use what is in the area. Dryer the better for making noise. This audio gives a good example of the noise 2 bucks can make besides the antlers. Love the grunt he does at the 3 minute mark when he almost has his eye poked out, guess he did not like that! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StRhXGRlKms I have learned much from Peter Feduccia the "Deer Dr." I am by no means an expert but through my experience and from listening to his video's I have been able to "talk" much better to deer and understand more when they respond. Check him out, pretty cool learning material. Second video is on rattling! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=14NucAEvZBc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e2uhKfmaXmA

It was a bad choice resulting in a bad shot, do your best to recover the animal. Then get right back into the stand and do it right! lol
-
Funny post. Deer are considered a pest like a rat. People want them exterminated not saved. Shame really. When they start to run into glass windows and braking into homes and all the car accidents they will be put down the same way.
-
One of my best friends who will not shoot without a bench rest but expects to kill a deer freehand while still hunting. People who come to camp and never help with anything at the camp. Over estimated deer populations. People who want deer culled but not with any hunters because they might see something they do not like. Like a deer kill! Hunters or friends who feel like tracking YOU instead of finding a deer!!! WT heck? Best one yet, I give my friend my GPS to update the maps and he downloads all my way points then hunts them all the next day trampling all over the spot I wanted to still hunt! Arg! GRRR!!!

That is one dandy of a 8 pt! Congrats to Scott Murray!
