  1. And that pretty much sums it up for me! Everyone who shoots with these type of sights say the same thing.
  2. That is a nice looking bear! Looks to be in the 350+ range, dam! Good luck with him!
  3. What a stud! Amazing looking buck Lawdwaz congrats on a true trophy buck! Age, mass, nothing broking, what more could you ask for! Beauty!!! Looks like another gray face, many say that means nothing but I never see that on young deer 4.5 or younger! 6.5-7.5 would be my guess. WOW!!!

    Grandpa

Congrats, that's great! Easy job, spoil them!!! Get them all wound up and leave, lol. Again congrats and most important thing is a healthy baby! Everything else you will figure out!
  5. I think next year I might get a single pin set up. It keeps your site picture clean and no extra pins to block the target when shooting past 30 yards. Big issue when the sun is on your sight with 6 pins. Plus as stated if you set it at 25 yards it is easy to compensate for any shot within 30 yards, more so with faster bows.
  6. Sometimes lady luck is on our side! Congrats on an awesome buck! Stud!
  7. No just one time. Second version was the quick version as I did not want to type it all again...
  8. First time at Ridge check station. Jumped one in Rocky point 10 min into my stalk. Called one into 10 ft before it smelled me or saw me draw. Heard a big one chasing a doe. Buddy saw some chasing. Nice day with some good action considering it was 68 Deg. My buddy left the area just before I called in the spike, It would have been his first had he stayed with me during the entire call sequence. Shame but he will get another chance! Sorry for the double post, Site was giving me some issues.
  9. Went to the DEC check station in Ridge for the first time with a friend. Even with this warm weather the deer where still up and moving, if you can hunt this weekend DO IT!!! We saw 5 + deer and heard a buck chasing after something and we did not get into the woods until about 20 minutes after first light. I jumped one on the trial 10 minutes in, stalking and called one to within 10 ft. He saw some chasing going on but it was very quick and they did not stop! It is heating up on LI and with temps dropping it should be good tomorrow and GREAT Sunday!
  10. First time at the DEC check station today in Ridge with my friend. By the time we got to the parking lot it was past first light. (Hunted a new spot.) My buddy never shot a deer so I wanted him to go in first and I would follow. I told him I would hang back 50 + yards doing a very slow stalk to give him some room. After about 10 min I jumped a deer on a crossing trail. He told me the trail got really thick ahead so I asked him to come back to the spot I jumped the deer. I set him up on the trail so I could do some calling and try to get something to come into him. I start my fawn distress call and work it for about 30-40 seconds, after about 5-7 min he gets up and says he is going to stalk back on the trail again. (Surprised he did not want to stay I did not object and off he went.) I moved on the opposite side of where he was and did two more doe in heat calls and 2 minutes later a deer comes in. At first I though I saw spikes the size of its ears but though I might just be a doe. At 10 ft when it was behind a bush I went to full draw expecting it to take two more steps for a perfect broadside view and possible shot if it was a doe. Well I guess 10 ft is too close and it heard me draw the arrow, it hesitated for a second then bounded off. It might have scented me as the wind was swirling slightly. That deer bounded off west and 30 seconds later behind me at about 70 yards a monster chased something and made a bunch of noise and one grunt, the other bow hunter I met at the parking lot heard the exact same thing. You could hear this was a big deer! After explaining to my buddy that after you call you need to sit for at least 15-20 min he said he knows that. I am just upset that I could have helped him get his first if he was a little more patient. He is a meat hunter so a spike would have been on his radar. Just like with fishing, sometimes the best skill a hunter can have is patients and persistence. This is not a new hunter and he is experienced. Maybe he just thought my calling sucked? lol Was planning on going to sleep now at 4 pm to prep for a 2:45 am scramble for another hunt and was just informed that will be delayed, arg! I should have stayed in the woods but I wanted to rest up for this possible brute we are after tomorrow. Come on Birthday buck!!!
  11. Happy B-Day Joe!!! Hope you are out stalking a big one!!! Then get to take a picture with him!
  12. Should be good the action is getting better every day!
  13. If you do get checked I doubt they will climb the stand to check range... If that was the case I could be right next to a house 150 ft up, lol. Now I just need the right tree!
  14. Beautiful buck, congratulations!!! Great that you could share this special moment with your long time hunting partner, Dad. Very Cool man Congrats again!

    Well....

They should have left it thier and set up a sting! This way when they come back at night to get it, they are caught red handed! That really sucks! Such a beauty taken by a poacher! And people wonder why we hate them so much.
  16. Wow he really checked out the cam! Cool video!
  17. They are moving during the day. Might not be as much but they are moving. I will be out tomorrow one of the hottest days probably in November but it is better than sitting at home! I will probably be sleeping by 11 am due to 70 degree weather. Not sure if I will hunt all day as I am prepping for the deep woods trip but morning action should be good. Rut is in full swing and the big boys are moving. If you can hunt this weekend it should be a great time for movement. Don't give up this is prime time!!! Good luck guys!

    Close stand

Sounds like an idiot, let the DEC know he is back after you leave and he will dig his own grave. Idiots like this get caught all the time but never seem to learn from their mistakes. You are doing the right thing leaving this area, sometimes dealing with idiots is not worth it. Explain to the land owner why you are leaving.
  19. Makes me think twice about upgrading to "save money". Quantity over quality.
  20. SLAP!!! I'm Rick James B! Apparently they are important enough to complain about for 2 weeks. Not important! Tell that to my buddy who is still agonizing over the monster he did not shoot 2 plus weeks ago! He is still upset! Grand scheme of things sure but reality is they mean a lot to us hunters and deer enthusiast!
  21. Deer are going crazy in Huntington. Reports of deer in very strange places. I would say with this warm weather it might be slowed down a bit but as the week progresses it will get colder. Friday 70 Deg!? WTH! Going to give it a shot anyway! Hope Saturday produces the big boy we are after! I predict Saturday and Sunday will be stellar!!! The Rut is on if you can hunt anytime the next two weeks do it!
  22. Good points DbHunterNY! I would try to keep it under 30. I can shoot targets out to 70 yards but an animal is much different. My comfort zone is 50 and less but realistically I try to keep it under 35 yards. If I misjudge it at that distance I will still get a good hit. I try to aim at the heart just like DbHunterNY stated. This way if you do have the deer "jump the string" you still have a chance at a good center hit, if not it is a heart shot.
