  1. Way to get it done! Your calling sounds good, very similar to how I call so I guess I am doing it right! I just hate when they come in downwind and bust me, I do not have fields like this and most shots are within 40 yards. I get busted most of the time trying to draw or getting them to stop. Cool video, thanks!

    Rub???

Here is a fresh one, note the bark at the base of the tree and one with a scrape.
  3. I would have some "friends" with me if I went back. Be careful, no deer or any hunting spot is worth risking your life or having a damaged vehicle for it.
  4. Get a GoPro. Recording harassment is much easer to get a conviction especially with assault weapons on public land.
  5. That is a shame and is really something that should be addressed before they kill someone on NYS land or for that matter any land. They have a right to patrol but to threaten you like that is not acceptable. IF you where on their land would they have been justified in shooting and killing you? Hell NO! I would post the exact location. Then we can post some monster pictures of bucks in the area and get some popcorn. Poachers vs Indians lmao! WoW would the DEC have their hands full! Sounds good but in reality the law needs to get involved but it sounds like they wont, until it is to late.
  6. Bedding and nighttime use, they love thick cover for travel last but not least food. Like NYAntler says their should be entry and exits if you can get on one of those trails I would think you would have a shot. Tree stand set up I would try doe in heat call followed a few min later with a young sounding grunt. If one is close I would bet next weekend he would at least get up and check. This is where a good scent trail from downwind leading back into your stand/swamp area would be perfect in case he tries to get downwind. Sounds like a really hard spot to hunt, I will come up and help if needed, lol. Dam you have me excited for my swamp hunting this year. I just hate getting stuck in them and I always do for some reason.
  7. Try still hunting, loose the seat and get a hot seat or foam pad to sit on. The one I use is a foam pad that I can slip under the day pack so it does not move when I still hunt. Much less gear and easy to pick a spot with good wind and a natural background to break up your outline. The seat you have is great for sitting in some bushes to use as a ground blind. Try it its fun and if you get a chance at a deer it is much more rewarding IMO. Try to eliminate as much scent as possible.
  8. Wow he is wide, looks young, good luck with him! He is a beauty!
  9. Like was stated above just range a few trees or land marks for reference this way if it becomes foggy or rainy or the battery goes dead you will still have a good idea of the ranges within 2-3 yards. Sometimes at that range you will not have time to get the rangefinder out AND shoot so it's better to know beforehand. If you go to the same spot it should become 2nd nature to know what your distances are. I had everything ranged out to 40 yards and with the wind I had that day I was not shooting past that distance. The 3 doe at 130 yards made me think of this site, lol.

    New Hunter

Welcome aboard! Some great information on these spots on the DEC web site. This is the site and at the bottom you can click on Westchester. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/7804.html This is just one part, other spots are available to hunt.
  11. You rock Wooly, great pics and nice buck!
  12. Not an easy gun to shoot as many drop their arms before the shot is done. Tradition, conneciton to the poineers and our four fathers, yes thier is something very specail about using these guns. Use the gun you like even if not considered the best weapon, in your hands it is wich is an accomplishment in itself!
  13. LOL love that last pic. Caption should read, "You ready for round 2 tough guy!" Great shots thanks for sharing!
  14. WoW that hunter should get some credit for the bear kill! Go Luna go! Love reading your stories! Keep up the good work and be selective so you do not burn out like so many before you! Awesome work!
  15. Moister wicking is VIP as your first layer, if really cold I will throw on some type of fleece as that also wicks moister away or some equivalent. (Many say fleece holds scent.) Then a turtle neck, neck warmer, parker (user the hood!) and if I really get cold then I throw on sweats and then rain gear to stop the wind. If that does not cut it throw a snow suit on top of all that! (One piece suits suck to use the bathroom but are good at holding in heat. Full neck/face mask. Good clothes can be expensive but are well worth the comfort. I did not think I needed the rain gear today (My wind breaker) boy was I wrong. 5 am till 6:30 pm was a long first day!!! At least I saw a buck (not a shooter) and 5 doe, not clear shots unless I wanted to do the 1/2 hour before sunrise, can't brake the law, so she got a pass at 11 yards. Then later a doe actually dove into some brush, I think to hide from the buck? Crazy never saw that before. Sorry so long I'm on 2 hours sleep! And I am still cold!
  16. I don't really still hunt like others, I just take off my clothes (Yes I keep my underwear on!) put them in the back pack and run as fast as I can for about 30 yards, then stop and look. Then after my 2nd 30 yard long distance run I catch my breath and sit for about 32 minutes. Get up and do it all over again. When I am bored I start climbing trees and hang from them like an ape and scream WHERE THE HELL ARE ALL THE DEER!!! I grunt as loud as possible about every 2-3 seconds or until I pass out. Then when I wake up I know the woods are calm. Then I pack it in and call it a day.
  17. One but never verified. Was not to happy about that part! Sagging neck to chest area, little muscle definition, and what appears to be declining antlers followed by a gray face. What would you guess?
  18. Some good looking bucks! Hope to see you with one soon!
  19. Backpack with, foam seat, 2 Compass, GPS, knife, flashlights with extra batteries, fire starters, lighters, smokes, extra gloves, sweat suit, rain gear, gloves, facemask, balaclava, 2 soda's, chips, trail mix, fat sandwich, tp, wet wipes and first aid kit, extra ammo. ADK Bow on LI I drop the extra clothes, batteries a flashlight, fire starters and bring a range finder and extra release, just finished dousing the clothes in Permethrin! The list goes on, good boots, I have a few pairs now, parker, camo baseball cap, my buddy Mike Mac (He brings me good luck!) and Halloween candy! Just know that if I OD on chocolate I was Happy when I went!
  20. ok buck in pick one is not the same as pic 2. Confusing me, lol it don't take much! Should have just reread Sampotters post! Buck A -1 looks huge like he should be a 4.5 or better or is just fattened up as a 3.5. Looks like a brute! Bucks in pic 2-3-4 are the same buck. 3.5 c looks like a nice 3.5 but in last shot he looks like a sweet 2.5. Kind of skinny for a 3.5 to me. What do you think they are G-Man? (I understand if you want to wait a few more posts.)
  21. You can not get it from eating meat. You can not get it from blood of a deer. http://www.cdc.gov/lyme/transmission/index.html
  22. You missed! All I kept saying was get back on him! Cool video congrats!
