Funny, I saw Deer Today. Could It Be The Cold?
NFA-ADK replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
Someone told them hunting season was over in the area! Cold or hot weather has nothing to do with movement, lol. Yea right! -
Congrats!!! Very cool!

So true Belo! As a hunter and sportsman I consider myself a conservationist. It is a shame how polluted our land and waters have become. Never understood why people litter so much, if you bring it in carry it out!

I will always use federal 165 grains. They are a tac driver in my savage model 110. I have used a few different types but federal are the most consistent. SB NPBT are the way to go.

DEC = Deer Environmental Culling? Backwards CED Cull EVERY Deer! Much better. They do not manage deer, the only concern is eliminating them. Great way to manage deer! And if you do not manage to cull enough of them we will do it for you at night time with silencers so you do not even know.

A micro GPS location device would work great for stands and camera's. It would help you find it when you forgot where you placed it and it would help with recovery when it is stolen. Coming soon, I hope!

Not much to report on last weeks hunting. 4 days of heat with only 2 spikes and a doe seen on private land, nothing seen on public. On a good note I found a flat footed brute that is on public land and I will go after him this weekend. No clue what the antlers look like but based on his print he is the one I am after! 2 weekends to get him before gun season opens up on LI.

That sucks, sounds like an anti. The other jerks take the entire set up.

NY is #1 Worst State to Hunt Whitetails
NFA-ADK replied to Renegade Hunter's topic in General Hunting
NY is horrible stay away! -
Well I think we can agree that the daylight movement has been low, deer numbers in many area's have been affected by 2 harsh winters, predators, hunting, cars, poaching and disease. I don't think making a one buck rule, eliminating youth season or early bow would affect this problem at all. Hunt smarter! Did you scout? Have a back up plan in case your normal hunting grounds were poor? Did you stay in a tree for 6 days? Did you try to stalk? When no sighting where apparent did you check the beds? Camera's are ok but real scouting is best. Not that we can all do this but the one's who do this type of prep work usually get deer. The other ones come on here and complain so I can give my all knowing advice out to them. LOL

Nice buck! Congrats!!!

Some will use all tags they can regardless if the area needs it or not. As for low sightings it has been up and down on LI. for my sightings. I have seen the deer really move and other days nothing. Weather and rut timing seem to be a factor. We have taken 2 doe in a high population area and 2 bucks this season so far. Personally it has been one of my best seasons, and I found a flat footer! Time is short! Bad new is the brute we where after has not showed up anymore.

Hard to judge with no reference to any other deer. Do you have a pic with him and some doe? Or another buck? Time of year it was taken. Front shot? No sag in the neck area, no slump in the back seems to be thin in the back leg area. 2-3

Weather has them sticking close to food sources.

He should get it back? He lost the deer, how does that make him closer to the rack? Because he shot it and tracked it for over a mile? Then failed to track it the extra few grids to find it dead? What if the other guy had trail cam pics of this deer and it ate his food plots all year? Does that mean he has more rights than the guy who shot it? What if that was the 3rd dead buck he found on his property that year? These are what we call sheds. Does not matter if the shed is 2 weeks old or 3 years. What if the other guy has 3 years of his sheds? What if he collects them? Real easy to say give it back to the hunter that shot it without knowing the entire story and for the most part I agree but it is hard to judge without all the facts.
