  1. For me the Maa maa call by mouth is the way to go for attracting doe. Do I swear by it, hell yea. But I will say it usually only works the first time if they catch you. If you are up in a tree this is a great way to bring in deer. Doe respond well to it but they are cautious when coming in sometimes. Other times they can charge in if you make the distress very high. EX: High pitched and loud! Indicating a predator is upon the fawn. In deep woods my preferred calling consists of the doe can, medium size. Two - three calls with the can followed up by a high pitched grunt (Indicating young buck, 1-2 years old.) about 5-20 minutes later. Indicating more than one deer in the area makes bucks feel safer than coming into another large buck by himself. At least that's the though process! (Buck calling during rut.) Doe in heat followed by tending grunt, bucks can not resist!!! The sound might be a little distorted due to the GoPro cover but you will get the idea. This call sequence was low and a low distress call. Not indicating a predator on the animal but a fawn looking for mom. The second video is what I am trying to imitate for the most part, again the 2nd video is not me but it shows how they call when distressed but not in immediate danger. I try calling away from where I expect them to show, indicating the fawn might leave the area, so when they come in not seeing the fawn is acceptable to them. Out of 4 guys we saw 16 deer, I saw 10 of them and we where all within 100 yards of each other. I also took my first doe just after this sequence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=csqEcrLDcXM&feature=youtu.be This is how I do it. Below is what I am trying to imitate. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JVrovlWzCFQ And this was the results. Start at the 1 min mark for the shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok I have used this call many times just to view doe, this is the second time I used it to try and take one. Works like a charm! Maaa Maaama Maaa!
  2. Practice freehand shooting! This way if you have a rest it actually feels like cheating!
  3. It happens every year on LI. This picture was sent to me a day before buck season opened. It was stated the deer was hit on N. State pkwy by a car. I said is that why it is caped already? LMAO I told him someone was pulling his leg! He never replied back, lol.
  4. I would like to make a formal request of the DEC! Burn down about 1/4 of the Forever Wild Forest so something more than just birds can enjoy the land! Feed the deer in winter yards and relocate 20 monster bucks to Moose River by next week so me and all of my friend can get a deer, Thanks in advance for all your help! Cost in no object! Get it done!
  5. WoW talk about out of touch! These are the same people who would protest hunting and they are multiplying by the minute! The internet + TV and movies and a sheltered life = Idiots out of touch with reality.
  6. These area's of no hunting are known "safe" spots for deer and they will always stay in these spots because they do not get harassed or hunted. Relocation is just another justification in spending more money on something that in the long run will not solve the problem of over population. Simply put the best way to control population is to allow more bow hunters access to these lands. They opened up a few new area's on LI this year but still the homeowners do not want hunters during the day and would rather have snipers at night so they do not have to see ANY HUNTING or possible deer blood or a kill on their lawn. Simply put they want them removed but do not want to see them removed. They would prefer night time hunting so they do not have to witness any killings.
  7. That is a little bit light for that animal, I would use the crossbow.
  8. Welcome to the site!!! One thing I would add is make sure you have a GPS, map and compass they are much better than using a phone. Proper clothes, wear orange and make sure you Identify your prey and place your shot. Be safe and read the regulations. Local rifle ranges are a great place to meet other hunters. Good luck and enjoy your time in the woods and you will never be disappointed. Some great advice guys!
  9. Clean your temp internet files, cookies and see if that helps Paula, I do not think it is anything to worry about, glitches and accidental clicks on a link and weird things happen. Not something I would worry about, if you are really concerned talk to one of the admins. They can tell you why it would appear. Nothing to worry about.
  10. Not sure but that location is a shared link. Like sharing a post on facebook. Maybe he shared your posts?
  11. I can see it happening. If I did not shoot for a week or two, then was out in the cold sitting for hours. ok Those practice rubber bands help! Not only do they help in bow draw but they keep your back muscles in shape! Basically the same as the springs but much more quiet. If we could keep warm in the tree stand or while hunting this would not happen. Great another thing that I have to worry about, lol!
  12. Saw a 4 pt pushing doe Saturday but the doe where not having it. Scrapes and rubs all over the place. LI This weekend should be great!
  13. Thanks! It was a nice day with good action thats for sure . I would have taken another but my buddy said buck only after the doe and its his access so I had to listen. By the time he gave me the green light to get the 2nd doe she was out of range.
  14. Practice more with the bow and that should not happen. Do at least 15-20 shots every other day. Taking one while going into or leaving a hunting area is not practice. You do not need to be able to shoot hundreds of arrows but shooting a few every other day keeps your consistency in check and will keep your confidence up, plus it will help your muscle memory!

    Holy crap

WoW glad your ok! Some guys are just happy shooting up the woods, until they hit their buddy and say opps "It was an accident!"
  16. 10/17/15 I get to the stand in the dark with only one low snort as I came in, great not too bad I think! Nice and quiet. I figure let me get the GoPro out because morning is usually good action. As I open the zipper to my day pack I notice the lights are on so I try to turn it off and it starts beeping and flashing and ARG!!! R U kidding me! This goes on for about a minute before I finally get the dam battery out. Then I hear the tell tail noise of a big deer walking AWAY! Figured I blew the area so I smoke a but only to notice a doe directly below me, she heard me put it out but never looked up. That was my only morning action. 3pm and I'm off stand for a stretch and notice a small buck 65 yards out. I get back in stand and 20 min later a small doe dives into some brush 10 yards out and froze. I figure she was trying to escape the young bucks harassment. Saw another 3 doe at about 120 yards. Doe in the bushes did not leave until I did. 7 deer total 1 4pt 10/24/15 2nd day hunting and it was for half a day. Set up and in stand by 2:30. Had some good action seeing 10 deer total with one 4pt pushing doe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slrgU4-4s5k&feature=em-upload_owner After some more calling I was able to stop what I thought was the largest doe and take her at 22 yards. My first with a bow and I was able to get it on video. I pulled up slightly so the shot was high. Rage did the trick as the arrow broke off and spun around, no pass through. I don't think my death grip on the bow helped my form, lol. She went 40 yards, blood trail was spotty a couple of times. Gave her until dark to wait but you can hear her pile up in the video. 10 deer total 1 4pt and my first bow kill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yxfsMDedRok&feature=em-upload_owner
  17. Make it as close as needed for a good shot. I would not do this now as the rut is really close, after season is perfect time to set up a new blind. Otherwise put as much brush as you can without limiting your shooting lanes and view. Sounds like a good spot but I would be afraid of making them aware of you especially so close to beds. I would think 20 yards minimum from a trail with a bow, if your elevated you can try closer. Good luck, sounds like a great spot!
  18. Lucky for me the range is less than 2 miles away! Always draw on target, it's less movement for the deer to see! I accidently shot my best friend with a pellet gun at about 300 yards while he was riding a bike, well it wasn't REALLY and accident. I was young, I NEEDED THE MONEY!
  19. Simply put let your morals and ethics take over. Sometimes braking the law is the right thing to do.
  20. Unless your house is not vacant do not post the days criminals will know no one is home! Lucky for me I have family here or I would not post this! Nov 5th-22nd Dec 7th-12th
