    Hello

Welcome to the site! Great place with great people. Ask away any questions we have many good hunters here with a large amount of knowledge. Best advice I can give besides reading is to get out and enjoy the woods, you will lean much from books but true learning is in the woods. Good luck!
  3. LI and Western NY produce the most large racked deer. Western NY basically by volume I would think has the most.
  4. Those poor trees, lol. j/k Be safe make sure the safety harness works and tie and extra line to the bottom stand so you never loose it!
  5. If you do not see anything crossing the road, he might be in the area just before it, if its thick enough to hide him. I would double check that area and try and pick up on the track again. Otherwise like said before if they go through woods and brush you will see the blood on the leaves. I would check the other side of the field and walk through the field slowly checking blood and tracks. Good luck!
  6. lol a bit overloaded! Congrats, nice moose!
  7. It does sound like a high hit. Good luck the rest of the season and let us know if you see her again.
  8. Did you age him? Results?
  9. I am pretty good at ranging but I have to admit sometimes I am way off so now a range finder helps narrow that margin of error. Keep at it, as you have found it is the most fun and challenging way to hunt but can be the most rewarding when thing work out. Sometimes like stated setting up a ground blind in these area's of high travel will make for a better shooting position with known distance. Good luck, hope to see some pics soon!
  10. Mass and character very nice! Congrats WNY Bowhunter on an awesome buck!
  11. Make sure you check the stand every time. Straps where cut on one stand causing major injury to one hunter, be safe!
  12. Keep at it and good luck! Even those who try to be perfect find the whitetails hard to hit! Keep your focus you will get it!
  13. Congrats on your first bow kill! Great story, good luck the rest of the year!
  14. Bingo! We have a winner! Sorry I ran out of likes.
  15. Agree with Doewhacker, if you moved the rest that far the bow is now out of tune and you should put it back to the original spot and get broad heads that work.
  16. Hard to tell, what type of sign are we talking about? Next question is when will the apples ripen and fall? Any other food source around? I would think if you disturbed the area recently you might not see any action for a couple weeks or when the apples start to fall good. Otherwise the rut is only 3 weeks away, they will be back during that time for sure if no other food source is available. I would say it really depends on how much human scent you left behind, this rain should was most of it away and the deer will hopefully be back this week.
  17. Even with practice and making sure everything is right, sometimes things just go wrong. As much as we would like to see none of those threads it's part of hunting, not every deer is recovered and for those that say they kill everything they shoot well you probably have not shot that much.
  18. Guess I have to rename my room with mounts in it to the memories room? Stop being so politically correct, its just a deer, if someone considers it a trophy why rain on their parade? I consider every deer I have taken a trophy and will never put anyone down for shooting a deer that makes them happy. That mount allows me to tell the story, explain how beautiful the animal was and show others the beauty of a nice mount. It bring back the day it happened and allows me to relive the joy and bounty it provided. Now to be politically correct I will have to be a memories hunter vs a trophy hunter? No I make no excuse for the hunting I do. I am a trophy hunter and will not change to a memories hunter. And I do not fell any regret for being one.
  19. LMAO gfdeputy2!!! Thanks for the laugh!
