  1. Sometimes we will post a question we know the answer to, it helps let other know what regulations changes have happened.
  2. I wonder if another picture like that will ever happen or for that matter a deer like that. It was taken on a timer so we could all get into the shot and came out great!
  3. Well it does not look good for the first weekend with this weather. Funny Doc how many people could care less, until it affects them! It will be interesting to see what the DEC will do that's for sure. Doubt many will like it.
  4. The word Trophy Hunter was given to successful city hunters who where able to bring back a deer. People would say "He got his trophy!" and would have pictures of him still in nice clothes sometimes suits with their prize. Not sure if that was where it originated but it was common that's for sure.
  5. I agree, he is just saying don't bash people when they get a spike or something below your standards that they are proud of. That is what they consider a trophy, yes. No need to tell them it is not a trophy, in their eyes it is. Mounts are considered trophies not sure where your going with that?
  6. Only if I have to shoot out past 80 yards, otherwise no scope. I use both but really need a scope past 80-100 yards. That is why I prefer the lighter 44 mag in the trapper model 94 in the ADK. Most shots are less than 70 yards and that gun is easy to handle 5 miles or more in hand.
  7. I thought this was a post about me after the hunting season, probably what I look like.
  8. Tested broad heads again today, looks good. Have to spray clothes tomorrow. Weather might put a dampener on things with possible hurricane winds see what happens. Suppose to go Saturday on a doe killing spree. See what mother nature brings and if the boys want to risk being up in a tree. High winds or lightning will definitely end it.
  9. No the proof is on you, if you do not have the proper information you will get a ticket and be expected to bring the proper information to court. It has to be written consent. No just "yea go ahead and hunt". The burden is not on the officer to prove you did not have permission it is on you to prove YOU DID have permission.

    Hello!

Welcome aboard! Where are you originally from, is that where you are going back to? What type of hunting are you into? Good luck hope everything works out for the best!
  11. He does not look like a yearling in 2013, I would say 5. Or if you want to get technical 5 years 4 months. Do we really need to argue this age of 5 or 5.5. Technically he would need two more months to be 5.5 and only if you have his birth certificate and can prove date of birth, lmao.
  12. That's cool! Looks like a nice little group with a nice shooter buck! Good luck hope to see you in pictures with him soon!!! LIKE!
  13. Couldn't have said it better myself NY Antler! And I have no more likes! lol
  14. Looks like Fibromatosis. http://dfw.state.or.us/wildlife/health_program/fibromatosis/index.asp http://www.buckmanager.com/2010/02/10/white-tailed-deer-tumors-or-warts/ Never seen it in person.
  15. Welcome aboard Outdoorstom! Happy to have you, my buddy did this for a while until he was feed up with it, way to many issues. Wish only the best for you and Luna! You are way up North wow! Hope you have much success and help recover whatever is recoverable. Some of the issues on LI where due to deer going onto properties hunter where not allowed to go on, even to track or recover.
  16. New hunter need many thing to be successful this is why taking someone hunting is much different than putting them in a tree and saying good luck, see you at dark. Take her out and track some deer, it is fun and teaches them much more than she will learn in a tent or up in a tree or waiting for a drive. It is all about learning your prey and while together and you have 2 sets of eyes to look for game. Tell her you are not hunting but tracking/learning, then if you see game you are just having that much more fun! Bring the weapons and talk very softly until out of the hunting area. I try to point out everything to new hunter that I pick up on when hunting. What do these tracks tell you I ask? Can you tell if this was a doe or a buck? Was this a morning track or evening track. Was the deer going to food or bed? What does that rub mean? How about that scrape! The last question I usually ask is IF YOU WHERE A DEER WHAT WOULD YOU DO? Not every question can be answered correctly but the more you do it the easer it gets. Bare ground is very hard to do but is possible and if you get good at that well snow just feels like cheating! I think of it like detective work, the better you can pick up on clues the more you will find out about your prey and the better your chances of seeing and picking one you like. Hopefully this will keep her interest and spark new love for the beautiful Whitetail deer and how adept they are at surviving. We do this for recreation, food, enjoyment of the outdoors but deer are in this to survive that is why they are so hard to hunt. Good luck, hope she keeps at it!
  17. Looks like a great piece of property! Hope you smack a MONSTER!
  18. No matter what someone will look down on what you or I do. Regardless if it is hunting or driving your car. This is the way of the world, most of those idiots are so self centered that nothing you say will change them even if you are right. Learn to disregard the pathetic over the top points of view, I did it on here recently. (not this post) Many of us do hunt for many different reason but I believe many of us here are of the same likeness even if we have different opinions. I have respect for the first year hunter and the guy with many trophies on the wall if taken legally, meat hunter, trophy hunter, traditional bow, crossbow, stalkers, tree huggers etc. The only hunters I look down on are those who poach, do not follow the basic regulations or if the moral code is not my cup of tea.
  19. Not exactly sure what your talking about, I use a compound.
  20. Most of the traditional shooters hardly brake 200 and if they do they think it was a great day! I have only seen 2 shooters who where able to come close to my score or beat it and I am only shooting around 270. Most of the decent shooters are around 230-250 average. PS: Love shooting challenges, we have the iron turkey and the disk thrower, fun shooting. If we ever meet up Joe I would love to take you up on the no sight compound vs traditional. Sounds like fun!
  21. Easy to give up, but a real hunter does it for the enjoyment of the outdoors not killing an animal. Explain to her that it is about the experience and not the kill. We all do if for different reasons, what is her reason for hunting? Enjoy your outdoor time and do not make a priority to kill yet a priority to have a good time in nature. The more time she spends outdoors will teach her how to hunt and why she is really interested in it. My hunting partner has yet to kill a whitetail, we have been hunting together since 1988. You have the itch or you do not. Hope he scratches the hell out of it this year! Good luck Shawn!
  22. You wonder why this goes this way? Just take one look at who is teaching your kids, 95% of them are against hunting and tell all how horrible it is to kill an animal then eat pork for lunch. Most of todays society have no clue about land and animal management. These are the same people who protest hunting, then fence in the garden and yard to keep out deer.
