450 marlin with the new flex tip ammo

I use a 444 the recoil is stout but if you can handle a 06 it should be no problem for you. if you do buy one go with the 24inch barrel. I shot a 10pt with 225 barnes hp blew out both shoulders.and with the new flex tip ammo you will get a increase in range.

My View on the Cross-Bow Issue I would like to state that I am a bow hunter and have no intention of buying a cross-bow. I have a friend who has MS; so I decided to do some research into the cross-bow issue and statements made by the NYB, instead of blindly following the NYB. The first statement made by the NYB is. “A cross-bow is not a bow”. I thought that could be subjective, but there had to be a definition somewhere. I looked up the definition of a cross-bow in the Webster Dictionary and found that a CROSS-BOW IS A BOW The next statement made by the NYB is,” it doesn’t take as much skill to shoot a cross-bow”. What the hell does that mean? Is that supposed to be bad? I would rather see someone with limited practice. Who can shoot a cross-bow well, then the guy who takes out his bow a week before the season, and then wonders why he lost 2 or 3 deer?( it’s ok He’s a bow hunter) These two next statements are really good.” A cross- bow shoots faster than a compound bow”. That’s not true. Just look at the 2011 Mathews catalog they have bows that shoot just as fast on 1/3 the draw weight. This one is a good one.” Cross-bow can shoot 1” group a 100yd’s”. I’m not going to say it can’t be done, but there are some factors that have to be taken into consideration first. The first of these factors is Gravity. A bow or cross-bow with a 400gr. Arrow going 350fps and sighted in for 25yds will drop about 8.7ft at 100yds... If you sight in for 100yds the bow or cross-bow would be useless for anything less than 70yds. Then can you kill anything that far? If you can’t then it doesn’t matter how good the group is. Then there is the wind. An arrow has a big surface area it won’t take much wind to blow it off target. (I used a Sierra 6 ballistics program and a high BC level of .700) I found that most of the statements made by the NYB were either not true or only half truths. They claim to represent all bow hunters, but I don’t think they do! My friend is never going to climb into a tree stand again and a draw lock doesn’t work for him. A cross-bow may not work for him but he deserves the opportunity to try one if he wants. I have to admit I have limited experience with a cross-bow. I have only shot one once and found it to be heavy and cumbersome and noisy. To me it is more of a novelty. I’m not going to put 500 to 800 dollars down on one. The only advantage I can see is that it may be a more stable platform then a bow. When the cross-bow comes to the archery season; the blame for the use of cross-bow in the archery season should be placed squarely on the shoulders of the origination that claims to represent all bow hunters. The NYB is taking a no cross-bow no-way for any reason stand. Made it possible for the pro cross-bow forces to get almost everything in time they want, because the NYB made themselves look like elitist spoiled children. The NYB could have help crafted a law that would have loosened the handicap restriction and maybe put in an age requirement. Let’s hope when cross –bows comes to the archery season those wanting to use cross-bows in the archery season will have to take the bow hunters course -
Hunting is allowed in Letchworth for one reason and one reason only, that is to control the DEER POPULATION. That’s it end of story! If you think, if they had a cheaper way to control the deer population, in that park or any other park in this state. Do really think they would allow hunting. That is just ridicules...

Letchworth has had an AR in place for a few years. I have talked to the guys who work there the AR was put in place not to get older and bigger bucks; it was put in place to reduce the deer herd by changing the focus from any buck to doe’s. They are seeing some bigger bucks in the park. If you have to be more selective about the buck you have to shoot and you have a DMP in your pocket most guys will shoot the first flat top that walks by; also the best food is outside the park and the deer get hit pretty hard when they leave the park.

Maybe it is because you can kill deer like this without AR’s. All you have to do is put in some time and hunt a little smarter. Take a look at Creekwood Archery .com and see some of the deer taken in there deer contest.

;D The cat was probably a male looking for a cougar. Should have went down to the local bar instead of a road trip he wouldn’t have ended up dead on the side of the road in Connecticut .

Anyone who hunts 9P, you will need PERFERACE POINTS just to apply for a doe permit you can not apply just to get points. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AT LEASE 1 POINT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO APPLY.

Hey NFA-ADK I have used a 44mag to kill about 10 deer. Here is what I used most were killed with a 245gr cast hp with a gas check, that a guy in pa. Cast for me but I think he has passed a - way. What I am using now is 225gr hp by barns and 240 gr xtphp by hornady, both have worked well with 100% pass though and good wound channels. Remember no matter what you use for deer once the slug goes though all remaining energy is wasted.

Hey maybe the anti-gun groups should give all us gun nuts one. With all the broken shoulders, detached retinas and concussion’s after just a few shots. None of us will be able to shoot anymore or work. So the SSI disability claims would go up and they will be checking to make sure we are not shooting.
