You might want to hold off on shooting in any old wood lot or backyard around the city or suburbs. I know most towns and counties have ordinances against shooting a bow in your backyard. I know Nassau county did when I lived there.

That right there is one of the reasons I still travel 700 miles to go deer hunting in NY.

I didn't know what to think when I heard the so called "Dr. Deer" say what he said about scents. I like many of you have actually seen bucks react to certain scents so I will keep using them and I do believe they work.

Not according to this Dr. Kroll guy. He said that doe vaginal mucus scent has a half life of about 45 seconds. So for a buck to smell it he would have to be right on her. He also talked about how a buck tracks a doe has nothing to do with estrus or estrous scent. They are actually tracking a specific doe from the scent off of their interdigital glands. The buck already knows that a doe is ready to breed from her visual behavior. He then tracks that doe using her scent from the interdigital glands. When the buck is within contact range he then will sniff around her vulva area which will ultimately tell him that she is ready to breed.

Someone the other day posted the deerchannel.com site so I've been watching all the video clips and Dr Deer (Kroll) has done experiments with scents. He used the leading commercial doe in heat urine, buck lure, human urine, and new car scent. He said that the bucks visited the human urine and new car scent just as many times as the buck lure and doe urine. He then boldly stated that sex scents and attractants do NOT work. It's a gimmick.

You know Doe I was just talking about that exact thing with some hunting buddies. I wonder how many of the so called "pros" have gotten where they are by cutting corners or bending the laws. Makes you think.
