  1. thx for serving and welcome !
  2. nothing wrong with feeling that way. I would be more curious of you if you didn't. I would not quit on the deer you missed though (Ralphy). He's still out there somewhere !
  3. that sounds cool. I hope they come to NC. I have a Bass Pro near me but I think they suck. They never have anything in stock here.Bass Pro does have a pretty good ammo selection though
  4. Don't be so quick to poo poo Ameristep. I've been using mine for 5 years and it's performed flawlessly. I would suggest the Ameristep G-20 doghouse blind. I think mine cost around 60 dollars. They aren't as good for bow as a hub blind because you have to shoot in the sitting position but for the money they do work. They are so easy to set up and carry around. Don't forget you'll have to get a good chair and they aren't that cheap either. Primos has a nice one for around 40 -50 dollars. Make sure you practice shooting out of it because you have to shoot sitting down in a doghouse blind. That's why having the right chair is important.
  5. I've been using an Ameristep G 20 doghouse blind for 5 years now and it's still holding up well. Very happy with it. Granted I've yet to have to deal with Ameristep in a customer service type situation. The doghouse blinds are better for rifle than bow but they work with bow well enough. Plus they are a lot cheaper than typical hub type blinds

are there smallies past the Gilboa dam towards Prattsville and Lexington?
  7. I met a guy coming off of DEP property who told me where his stand was and said I could use it. It's a nice set up in a nice oak grove. That was 5 years ago and it was still there last season. I never did get in it but I found it strange that he would just leave hundreds of dollars of equipment in the woods and never comeback and get it.

  11. why can't the budget get balanced? Obama has to submit one first.
  12. good shootin ! enjoy your protein !
  13. I agree that the fastest quietest bows can still be heard and ducked by an alert deer but the faster the arrow the less that deer will be able to react. That's just simple physics. Also another thing to think about is even with the fastest bows shooting an arrow @ idk 330-340 ish fps speed of sound travels at approx. 1,085 fps. I've heard of alert deer having reflexes or reaction of about .05 seconds.
  14. I'm absolutely with you on your second rifle of choice the Marlin in .35 rem. I'm a 3rd generation .35 shooter I own other rifles in great calibers but every opening morning I just can't seem to get out of the cabin with out that great lever action in my hands ! It just does the job and does it well. Last year I took my first black bear with the .35 it was quartering towards me, shot him through his chest under his chin the bullet came out his off armpit breaking his shoulder and he only ran 30-40 yards. That Hornady leverevolution really did a number on him. That rifle will always be with me in deer camp.
  15. I would throw the Marlin 336 in .35 rem. into the mix. Was my first deer rifle and it's still my go to rifle.
  16. I was thinking some sort of growth like fibroma.
  17. not surprised to see greene county so low on the totem pole. hard hunting.
  18. what does it have on it ? (rest, sight, arrows)? the mathews that is
