  1. Went up Thursday and muzzle loader hunting till Saturday and it was way too warm (70's) each day and very little deer movement. Saturday night at 9:30 I went outside and felt like I was being watched. Yep, the deer were in my yard and by my picnic table eating beach nuts. My light was dim so I could only see green eyes and the outline of deer. It was a great trip at camp to just hang out and get a few chores done, but not for backwoods deer hunting. Going back North soon and hope for a weather change.
  2. Good luck and I hope you keep at it, maybe listen at dark for yotes and see any birds circling in the am. early. That sucks and we all feel for you.......
  3. Packed, fueled and ready to go North. Good luck boys and hope you all have a great fall season..I'm full of hope this guys is still hanging around my woods.....
  4. The only true result you will get is to seek out his Lieutenant and have them involved with the whole issue. I bet if he was so disrespectful to you it isn't his first issue with that and his supervisor needs to be informed and have faith they will handle it properly. No LE supervisor or administrator can solve problem employees if they are unaware or if it goes undocumented. Reporting and documentation are needed for any disciplinary action against an employee. The public can't expect supervisors to "just know" or "fire him" without the proper steps taken. That all starts by a citizen bringing the complaint to his Lieutenant. Hope this all helps.....sad but we only hear of the few screw ups out there and not the ones who faithfully and diligently do their jobs every day..
  5. RIP and prayers sent to family and friends...
  6. Same thing happened in South Glens Falls a few years back; some kids took a ride and were injured. http://poststar.com/news/local/two-boys-seriously-injured-when-bounce-house-is-blown-into/article_e0c4aac2-da9b-11e3-99fb-001a4bcf887a.html
  7. They are not responding because: 1. it was against the advice of their therapists 2. they've entered an intense 90 day forum rehab treatment program and have been not allowed access to the WWW. 3. banned due to terms of their parole or probation Just random thoughts ???? We all miss good old uptown redneck....
  8. Your shed looks like my shed... There is no easy way to store full body goose decoys other than a enclosed trailer. Enjoy, some days it's most fulfilling just to wash and sort gear....
  9. Being retired LE, that's correct advice to get it tagged. I've salvaged dozens over the years and had some families that needed meat and I would call them to come get the deer. I hate seeing them go to waste, even if there mangled let them become yote bait.... Rumor has it there have even been a few in the trunk of patrol cars over the years.
  10. OH yea, we had our priorities and I guess your bleeding out wasn't one of them. Camp must have: clean wrapping for gaping flesh wound after making poor decisions while on the roof...
  11. OMG...Kelly and I were laughing about that last weekend. A few stitches later after an hour drive and all was well. Camp must have: first aid kit..... (Novocaine and sutures optional)
  12. I'm well off the grid and have propane every thing but my "must have" is my propane refrigerator. I use camp all year long and no more lugging Yeti coolers and ice through the woods. The fridge was used and it was like new. Uses about a pound a day of propane and I have two 40 pound tanks I switch off. There long lasting and manageable by myself... Congrats and most of all enjoy !!!!
  13. Here it comes.....leaves falling, chill in the air, damp smell of leaves and evergreens in the air, wood stove warmth, smoke curling from the chimney and it's almost here !!! Gear sorted and all washed, snow camo packed for late season and truck being packed. Have a great fall and enjoy....
  14. That had absolutely nothing to do with any prior post or comment you made. It was a "just imagine" trying to read the penal law, decipher the subsections and make judgement calls all the while you have someone under arrest who is off the hook in your back seat.
  15. That's menacing another and an entire different law charge..... Imagine this for a minute, it is 2:00 am and you've had little sleep, too much coffee and you are trying to read penal law and decipher charges all the while someone is in the backseat of your car, drunk, kicking, spitting and yelling at the top of their lungs at you..
  16. Well said !!! I know these post create arguments because we all someone who was "wronged' along the way by the law... I get that and it is very difficult to help explain things because a large part of enforcement is discretionary by police, attorneys and judges. Best of luck all ....
  17. Believe me it get confusing as anything, if you ever peruse the New York State Penal Law and notice the sub-section and if/or's all listed. I actually subscribed to a publishing company that sent me each law modification for Penal , Vehicle & Traffic and Criminal Procedure Laws as they were written into law by the legislation. A great number of these fall upon the officer to make judgement calls regarding to intent or recklessness. It gets crazy and some unfortunately don't use the best "discretion" when making arrests..
  18. Great example, it is simply a common mag light sold at every Walmart in the country. Not illegal to possess by simple possession. However, (for sake of conversation) one is involved in a road rage situation and exits one's vehicle in possession of that mag light and strikes another with the light. The light by state statue has become a "weapon"..
  19. Thanks guys, I retired after 32 years of enforcement and was a road patrol Lieutenant for over 1/2 my career. I'll simplify theses as below because there are differing degrees of the penal law, and subsections to each individual law. Simple trespass is when you are on property without invite or asked to leave and refuse. (violation) Criminal trespass is when you trespass and it is upon real property such as a building or confined area. (misdemeanor) Burglary is when you trespass and have the intent to commit another crime while trespassing. (felony) Possession of a weapon is tricky, again because there are so many subsections of law. Normally possession of a weapon is when one possession an object (weapon) while committing another crime, or with intent to use the weapon against another, or if possession is prohibited by nature of where one possesses the weapon. An example would be a billy club on school property, a screw driver while committing a burglary or a using a hammer when assaulting another. A lot of these examples fit the statute but discretion needs to be used. A person enters a store that is open, during business hours and has the intent to steal property from within they have actually committed burglary even though the store was open and there was no forced entry. It get rather complicated and any officer needs to examine the totality of the case and use discretion when charging. Again, theses examples are greatly simplified for the sake of discussion.
  20. Normally the criminal possession of a weapon stems from possessing any "weapon" with intent to use that item against another. Therefore, the weapon could be a screw driver, crossbow or crowbar if the intent was to use that item against a person for bodily harm. It doesn't have to be a "weapon" in the terminology we normally use.
  21. I have the very basic Garmin and have it "just in case", but utilize my compass normally in the Adirondacks. I have on my wool coat one of the bubble compasses for keeping me pointed in general directions I wish to travel and in my pack a compass for actual navigation. I have used the PS to mark spots while ice fishing for generalized areas I want to return to. GPS have their limitations such as battery life, signal reception due to terrain and exposure to weather. For these reasons I relay on the good old compass....
  22. Well, so much for that early fall I hoped we would see. Leaves are mostly changed and dropping, beach nuts and choke cherries have all dropped and not a wild apple to be found near camp.... Let's hope weather changes back to fall soon; no fun having mosquitoes in October...
