  1. Yeah , that gets irritating after a while ! I also avoid the word "HARVEST" . I recall one of the hunting Gurus ( Bob Foulkrod ) gave a talk at a local Sportsmen's Dinner and said you don't harvest deer , you kill them . Forget the PC crap .
  2. We have a Gibson freezer that we bought in 1969 or 1970 . It works like a Timex ( knock on wood ) . After the freezer I bought at Sears crapped out , I bought another 7 cu ft freezer ( GE ) from Home Depot when they honored the veteran 10 percent off . Cost about $200 . Bought another 7 cu ft chest freezer from Lowes when they had the veteran 10 percent off for about the same price . I make it a point not to shop at either store as they don't recognize me as a Veteran even though I have a Wayne County Veteran's Discount card with photo ID but that's another story .
  3. It's not an alarm . Just a remote Indoor / Outdoor thermometer from LaCross Technology . Any thermometer would work the same . It cost me Ten Dollars . I have it by the computer where I sit a few times a day .
  4. I had that happen a few years ago . Went down to the basement to get some burger and when I opened the chest freezer there was a lot of moisture dripping . It had a 12 month guarantee and I had it for 13 months . No idea how long it was off . The power light was still lit . Lost my venison . Replaced the freezer and put a remote thermometer receiver in the freezer and the thermometer by my computer . It is 5 degrees
  5. I only wear Blaze Orange when gun hunting . I hunt private property and want hunters on adjacent land to be able to see me . I don't gun hunt without wearing the Orange .
  6. Yes , I have seen several rubs on some sumac where we hunt in Pittsford .
  7. I havn't hunted with one but have shot 3 bolts from one at 40 yards . Pretty easy if shooting from a rest and it is sighted in . They are heavier than a bow so you wouldn't want to be walking around shooting off-hand but would be fine shooting with the use of a bi-pod or some sort of rest . Some of the crossbows have a crank that draws the string back which is much easier to cock it . It's similar to shooting a rifle with a scope . You don't have to worry about a kisser button , bending at the waist , etc .. They vary in price and some places like Field and Stream let you shoot one before buying it .
  8. Tally Ho --- the fox Pics from the Pod Hub Blind
  9. I was in my Pod Blind by 6:40 this am . No rain but the weather was damp . I saw a small buck and 2 doe by 8:20 . They were about 100 yards away but at least it was a sighting . I knew they the Genesee Valley Hunt Club was going to be hunting the Bottoms . I heard the dogs barking around 8:30 and the horn being blown . Apparently a cock pheasant heard them and flew about 30 yards across in front of me . Kind of a rare sight . About 20+ riders went across the property 20 yards north of me with a few dogs . I grabbed my camera and got a couple pics of them . None of them even looked toward the blind . I gave up by 11am . I took my metal detector with me as I had shot a practice arrow several days ago and couldn't find it . Well , I found it today . The ground was real soft and the tip was at least 3" under the soft , muddy dirt . Drove to Henrietta and checked out the new Field and Stream store . All I can say is WOW !
  10. Damn Pygmy , I almost spit oatmeal on the keyboard !
  11. My post time matches with the computer time . I am good to go ! yeeeehaaaaaa !
  12. I wish you hadn't mentioned this . I probably won't be able to sleep tonight . I post from the computer and have no problem .
  13. I am old enough where I don't pay for the ML or Bow . I would give that up to be 20 years younger !
  14. Welcome to Hunting NY
  15. Nuttin ! Drove to my spot in Pittsford - Mendon and was in the stand by 6:30 . I had put out a couple plain doe pee scent wicks . Sat there until 10:30 and saw NOTHING . The wind was okay except it was cold and blowing on my neck . I don't like hoods and had removed it some time ago . I ended up changing hats and put a hand warmer pad on my neck so it wouldn't stiffen up . I saw the lady from across the street and asked if I had waked her up when I parked and she said she didn't even know I was there . She asked if I had gotten a deer yet . I told her that I had gotten a doe a week ago across for her home . She said good that it was one less deer eating her plants . I will probably go to Geneseo Wednesday . and give that another try . There will be a fox hunt and maybe the riders / dogs will kick something out .
  16. The Archery doe tag I had , had the top part for that tag printed on the bottom of the previous tag ...............
  17. Going to Pittsford Mendon spot for a morning hunt . Light southern wind forecasted with rain in the afternoon . I will be alone so if I can get another deer it will be a long slow drag . Gonna be ccccccold !
  18. Sounds like you might want to carry an extra pair of shorts in your back-pack !
  19. Welcome to Hunting NY
  20. There aren't any bear in Letchworth . I saw a sign by Wolf Creek that said Bear Left !
  21. This morning was a waste . I drove to Mendon as it showed no rain until 10 am . It was a light sprinkle most of the way . I was in my stand by 6:30 and the sprinkles just kept up . Never saw a blessed thing and left at 9 am as I was pretty wet . I am guessing that the deer were a lot smarter than I am and stayed where they wouldn't get soaked . I sat in the stand that I shot the doe from last Saturday . When I got there I paced off 20 yards a put a distance marker with a scent wick at what I figured was 20 yards . It ranged at 19 yards . Close !
