Update on the damaged blind, we took it apart and I brought it home to fix. Well we decided as long as there was so much work to do on it we might just as well make it bigger. It was 4x6 and the second blind we built is 6x6 which is much nicer! So this one is now 5x6. I made the windows smaller as we felt they were too big, and I made an entire new roof. I'm contemplating cutting 8"off the walls as it looks to tall but I don't think it's worth the effort? Re paint and it's ready to take it apart and haul it to the property and put it back up!

I got up yesterday and went to Farmersville to hunt at a friends property. He says they have been roosting right behind his house for days. I never heard a bird! as I was leaving he admits that he heard birds every morning all week except Friday! Don' know where they went but they are not there! I have been to 3 different properties in last 2 weeks and haven't heard a gobble. I know there is always a gobbling low point but it's just real frustrating. I can't get up every day at 3:30 to hunt like I used to? It takes too much out of me. I'm thinking I may take up fishing! LOL

Yesterday I took a file to the nipple and the caps now slide on much easier, not too easy that they will slip off but, I think this will do the trick. we'll see, I probably won't get a chance to try it out until this Saturday. Wish me luck! And thanks for the help, as always 1

I Googled it and I can try different caps, cci might fit better. Or file the nipple to make them fit better. I think I can do the filing? We'll see! Thanks

I am trying to get a turkey with my White 12 ga blackpowder shotgun. But as I was sighting it in I was having a problem with the gun firing on the first try. I could re cock it and it would fire on the 2nd try same cap. I did notice that the caps go on the nipple hard. Am I not seating the caps properly or is there something I'm missing or doing wrong? It's been a long time since I had a gun that uses #11 caps so these caps are old but that shouldn't make them hard to place on the nipple I don't think? It's frustrating as I don't want to blow a chance at a turkey with a miss fire only to have it fire with a second try. I know the turkeys won't wait for me to cock the gun and try again! Lol Ant ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Thanks for all the B day wishes. Picked up a couple of ny strip steaks from niagara County produce and a six pack of Rusty Chain, wife is making some deviled eggs and desert of course!

I don't know anything about those sights but, I believe that you need to move the rear sights in the direction you want the patten to hit. So you need to lower the rear sights or raise the front.

I hunt turkey on a private piece off 242 about half way to Randolph, I believe it's Napoli.

I have 2 pairs of Darn tough hunting socks and they are great. I noticed that they are very similar to the Smart wool ski socks that I wear skiing so I started wearing my ski socks hunting and they are great as well. Now I have several pairs of socks I can wear skiing or hunting!

I went to Little Valley yesterday. When I pulled in Wed evening there were 2 red heads in the field not 40yds from my blind. Got up and listened at first light no gobbling. Sat in the blind and 2 hens showed up and I got 1 cranked up, she cucked and yelped at me for almost an hour! Not 1 gobble. Went for a stroll around 10 and never heard anything. My buddy went back to the blind and had 1 gobble 4x behind the blind but it wouldn't come out to the field. Oh well that's turkey hunting, It was a beautiful day to be in the woods!

Tacks, how does it taste with the Franks in the milk? I did deep fried turkey strips a few weeks ago, I dip them in flour, then egg, then panko breadcrumbs, then fry. Shake them in franks and butter (medium/hot) they were delicious!

No internet all weekend so I'm late as usual to the show! I went with a friend to Birdsall and hunted State land. Real windy Friday so no roosting although we tried. Saturday we hike 2 different areas and not a gobble, but at a 3rd spot I did manage to get a hen going and called in a hen and Jake to 60 yds. no shot opportunity. Sunday we got to that spot early and heard 2 maybe 3 gobbling on the roost but they were a ways off and on posted property. So we set up near the property line and called, I know they responded to me so I decided to just sit it out for a while. About 9:30 I decided to try a few clucks and Bam! 1 gobbled real close. He was coming in fast, straight in front of me. I was patiently waiting for him to keep coming and suddenly he turns and runs down the hill away from us. I turned to look at my buddie and he's fidgeting trying to get his gun in position! I'm sure that longbeard saw him move, Dam!

Made another breakfast pizza with venison breakfast sausage, peppers and onions, eggs and cheese. These will make a great early morning breakfast for turkey hunting.

As long as we're on the subject... I can't stand that every tv show and commercial now has to have some form of mixed couple or same sex marriage. Why do they feel the need to jam this stuff in our faces?

Nice reading all these successful youth hunts! Congrats to everyone! I took out a friends son for his first ever turkey hunt. We got together Friday, sited in his gun (410 ga) he was good to a max of 30yds. I couldn't convince him to try my 12ga. We didn't hear any from the roost so we made our way back to a field where we have seen the birds often. Sat in a blind with some dekes out and 1/2 hour later got a gobble behind us. Game on! The bird gobbled 20 times in an hour but never showed in the field. My guess is he was with hens and all the calling turned the hen off and she took him for a walk away from us. We eventually went for a walk to try and locate them but never heard another gobble. When we made our way back to the field we bumped a hen at the edge of the field, I didn't see any other birds but i bet they were near by and we blew it. Oh well it was a great day to be out there and I believe he learned a few things about hunting turkeys and patience! I'll probably get him out at least 1 more time during the season. Got to find him a 20ga he can shoot to increase his range.

no pic, but I've got a batch of pepper sticks in the smoker right now. It's melting the snow around the smoker! I'm taking a youth out this weekend and I thought these would be a great snack!

The stairs look good. You might want to sister another board along side of the stringers as with cut out steps there isn't much meat left in those stringers. jmho

My daughter took her Toyota Corolla to Carmax, they gave her $1500 more than Toyota dealer would give her on a trade in. They gave her a check on the spot. I'm sure you can try seeing if the dealer where you bought it will buy it but check Carmax b4 you give it away. jmho

I'm planning on going out tomorrow am, I haven't been out yet this spring. I have been doing a lot of cruising lately and i have yet to see any birds out in the fields? I heard that the population is way down in Chat. Co. but seriosly not a single bird in any fields? I really hope I hear some gobbling in the morning.
