  1. that deke looks too real, it will definitely get shot at, you better set up very defensively. just a suggestion... try taking a partner, sneak in early as usual but have your hunting partner come in on the opposite side of the bird, just a little later than you, then have him/her do the only calling, if that bird constantly goes the other way from calls, your bird should pitch down in your lap. but as we all know he will probably out smart us again.LOL
  2. congrats Joe, I spent over 5 hours in the woods today and did not hear a bird. Went to Little valley, I think everybody was down to their camps this weekend and tearing up the woods with 4 wheelers. Hopefully it will calm down later in the week, I may get out Thursday and Saturday.
  3. thanks for the reminder, I forgot I have a camera out still. I think I will go out change the card and check the batteries.
  4. today should have been the day... had 1 gobbling his head off from 5:05 AM, I worked him and his hens till 9. at one time I had the gun on him and the safety off but I couldn't see his beard and I didn't want to shoot a Jake. He was less than 40yds. . had to move on him 3 times..did everything but kill that bird... great hunt. Hope to try it again tomorrow.
  5. went to Cuba area today no luck, no gobbling from the roost and only heard 1 gobble at a distance and never could find him. try again tomorrow.
  6. congrats on everything, good luck fishing.. what done chasing turks?
  7. wouldn't a fresh rub have some bark and chips on the ground next to the tree? IMHO.
  8. I've taken a bearded hen in the fall. I passed on a bearded hen the first Saturday of this season. had her at 20 yds. she had a 7-8" beard. Not to change to topic but I watched a hen strut and gobble for 20 minutes 2 years ago. She sounded worse than my calling!! I wouldn't have believed it had I not witnessed it myself. My buddy was hunting that day and he witnessed it too. We were on opposite sides of the ridge and this bird kept going to both of us and squawking her head off.
  9. Ok last try... I took this bird today in Little Valley @ 11:55 AM.! 18lbs., 9" beard, and 1" spurs. I think I posted this in 3 different places in an attempt to get it in the contest.
  10. first time entering this contest so I hope I did this right. I got this bird this morning at 11:55 AM, in Little Valley, 18lbs., 9" beard and 1" spurs.
  11. went to little valley this morning didn't hear any at sunup so I started run and gun, got a gobble at 7ish he gobbled to the crows and every time i tried to get close he would move away. I assume he was with hens. Saw a single hen on the way back to my truck. went back out after coffee at 8:30 and nothing.. at 11:30 I decided to head back to truck, tried 1 last call on the way out and got a response! 11:55 longbeard down!! Unbelievable how fast it can happen.
  12. by "spare hunk of wood" you really mean beer don't you LOL
  13. Lawd, stop over we can shoot 20 ft. in my garage. You have to promise you will not put a hole in my garage wall!!
  14. I was paper shooting @ 15' with my block on the floor, so I was shooting at a slight downward angle. Do you thing that would cause the high/right tear? I will try your tip for the grip and see how it feels, I started putting my pinky on the side of the stabilizer as a result of trying to not grip the bow. (never use a wrist sling) I will also pay attention to the string pressure against my face. Thanks for the help.
  15. went to Lyndon/Cuba yesterday nothing at first light, 10:00 got a hen cranked up and sure enough a gobbler followed. Worked them both for an hour, he hung up at about 40 yds. behind a blow down and couldn't get a shot, the hen finally lead him off. I followed and got the act started again at 11:45, damn had to walk away at noon. It was fun anyway. This morning I went back to 9f , 3hens on the roost no gobblers again. Had to give it up too much to do today.
  16. congrats! it sounds like was a a good hunt, better than I've been doing.LOL
  17. Have not shot BH's yet, time will tell. As for form I hope its good, if not I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I shoot with open hand, follow through with release, and practice the same. i know there is a lot more to proper form than that but for now that's as good as it gets.
  18. minimum 1 hour before sunrise. If i know where they are roosted I go even earlier 1.5 hours before sunrise. Need to get as close as possible without spooking them. i love it when they pitch down and land on my feet!
  19. Update: I paper shot my bow last night and I am getting a high right tear, not huge tear, the fletching tear is about 1" high and right at 10'. (6x) I'm not sure if that tear is enough to concerned and should I be making adjustments? It seems to be shooting fine with field points, I haven't tried broadheads. I will check the fletch clearance to make sure that is not an issue.
  20. Ok, I checked out the set up on my bow and everything looks right. Nock is 1/8" high, center is right on, cams seemed to be timed. It must be my form as I miss my stabilizer, I always shoot with my pinky on the side of the stabilizer to steady my bow. I have a new stabilizer and will install it tonight. I shot last night @20ydrs. and did the walk back to 30, it seems fine. I even had an extra set of eyes to watch arrows(thanks Lawd) it is fine so now I need to practice some more and try the broadheads.
  21. Went out this AM got in the woods they usually roost in at 5, had 6 hens fly down right in my lap, they called non stop for almost 1 hour, not a gobbler with them. Said screw this and went to work. I'll save the vacation day for latter.
