  1. I have a couple real nice modern day rifles that i have put away for now. In the last few years i have used my dads 50 year old 336 Marlin chambered in 35..in last couple years it has taken a buck, a doe and a bear..the reason well its my dads gun, its a tack driver, its short and compact (makes my treks up the mountain easier) and it packs a nice punch.
  2. Good luck all...im hoping to be out there tommorow morning.
  3. Congrats. .some good eating right there!!!nice way to double up!!
  4. Congrats to him that is one hell of a buck and congrats to you for teaching him well!!!
  5. Yep i agree, i border on Deleware and Otsego counties and there are alot of coyotes..i have taken a couple while deer hunting and one male was a bruiser.they are big up my way.Just last week at the cabin i had the widow open in the bedroom and there were so many yipping that i was woken out of my sleep. Every night you just stand out on the patio and they are yipping and howling back at each other..time for some predator control after deer season.
  6. We eat the brain and im still walking around..lol..you will live to see another day.
  7. Congrats..great recovery. Those memories will live on in your mind forever!!
  8. Thanks..im impressed that you would pass on an 8 pointer with an 18 1/2" spread. Not me..lol
  9. Yeah its all crazy..think i have found sheds a couple times in all my years hunting and my dad has never found sheds other than this pair. For my dad to find the sheds and then for me to kill the buck of those sheds 2 years later is mind boggling...im pretty positive that i will not be able to repeat that.
  10. Good luck getting that buck..keep us posted.
  11. Yep i agree..the stories and memories is what its about.
  12. Thanks and you might be correct...i just found it hard to put an age of 2/12 on those sheds knowing the racks in my area for that size are typically found only on 31/2 yr. olds. I know rack size is no way an indicator of age however having seen enough 2 and 3 yr. Olds in my area you get a sense of age.
  13. Heres another shot of lower and one of the upper. Also forgot mention in my story that his outside rack spread was 18 1/2"..hope these 2 pics. help. Thanks
  14. Wish i did and i usually do but this time i didnt..yep im pissed that i forgot to weigh him. I think i took one other picture of his jaw not sure if its looking down, let me check..i have the skull with me will a picture of the upper teeth help?
  15. Any guesses people on his age based upon the jaw bone i attached?? Thanks
  16. Thanks..im floored as well. .in all my years i have not seen one side shed that size let alone a matching set. I realize that I will probably never be able to duplicate this story again..i do however credit the finding of the sheds to my dad and even he was in shock when he found them. I just happened to close the deal on him 2 years later.
