  1. I would be interested. Antelope sounds cool so does a waterfowl hunt. Pigs are a blast as well.
  2. Looking into getting a bino harness. Does anyone use one that they really love? Currently looking at the FHF and Kuiu. BK
  3. Funds are a little tight this year so I would like to purchase next year and practice. I have no intentions of hunting with it next year. Completely agree I would need to be proficient with it before hunting so next year is definitely out of the question as far as hunting goes.
  4. Would love to start shooting a stick bow. Maybe next year I'll give it a go.
  5. I'm hoping to get up this weekend or the first weekend in August. I have to move a lot of my existing stands and hang a few more. Highly doubt I will be able to get it all done in one weekend so may be forced to pollute the woods with human scent in October. Not happy about it but it is what it is. I had about one free weekend this whole summer and wasn't able to get up. Oct 1 can't come soon enough.
  6. Rubbed Venison Flank steaks with salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder and cumin and grilled them over high heat for 2-3 min on each side. Served in warm tortillas with fire roasted poblano peppers, grilled onions, avacado slices and a squeeze of lime and hot sauce........Holy God they were good.
  7. Biz, I am 90% going out to WY this year for a DIY elk hunt and will most likely have 3 PP next year as well. If you're interested in a DIY hunt anywhere let me know. I would be flying anywhere I go as well.
  8. Do you happen to know the title of the book? He has quite a few and they all look very similar.
  9. Can I go in and buy a lifetime now, or do I need to wait until this years licenses go on sale?
  10. There is a range in Queens called proline where there is a hunters league every Tuesday night. They use broad heads as part of this league. Last night was week three of the league, and they begin using broad heads starting weeks 5-6.
  11. Glad to hear its turning out to be a good year. Apparently the deer fawns are having a good one also.
  12. Looks like stew meat through the packaging. Maybe minute steaks. Tough to see, I guess I gotta thaw it out and figure it out from there.
  13. A buddy of mine gave me a package of bear meat last night. I never cooked bear meat so not sure how to prepare it. What is everyone favorite recipe for bear?
  14. Looking forward to getting out a bunch this year.
  15. Yea from hear on out I'm going to always have a secondary string and change them once every 3 years. I will run a few hundred arrows through this one then set up a new string so the stretched out one is my back up. Then every 3 years get rid of the most used and abused one and repeat the process. You live and you learn.
  16. Just curious if anyone else saw this and what your thoughts are? https://www.nysenate.gov/newsroom/press-releases/patrick-m-gallivan/senator-gallivan-announces-senate-passes-bill-allow-moose
  17. buy once cry once......The new high end bows will last you a loooonnngggg time.I heard lots of good things about the Hoyts. I have a matthews chill and i am very happy with that so far. If I ever did decide to get a new bow it wouldn't be for a long time and would def take a look at the Hoyts.
  18. When I first started shooting the bow I wasn't putting a bend in my bow arm so the string was hitting the arm guard a lot and I could see the string actually fray a little. I guess this is the result of shooting with improper form. The shop was nice enough to put a brand new string on right away. Now I just need to dial it back in, but like everyone said that scared me enough where now I will be over exaggerating the bend on my bow hand to ensure that doesn't happen again.
  19. Was sighting in the bow this weekend as I bought a new spot hogg sight. Finally had it dialed in and feeling good and the string blew. Luckily I didn't get hurt but what a disaster, especially because I start my hunting league on Tuesday and now I have a bow that isn't sighted in. The shop was able to get a new string on and luckily nothing else went but man that sucked!!!
  20. I was thinking about doing a CO or WY back country hunt this September. I currently have a NYC premise permit, along with the hunter authorization card. I wanted to bring my side arm with me into the field. Any idea if this will fly out of state? I figure a NYC permit should be good as gold anywhere. Getting on a plane just freaks me out as I feel like there is some hidden law I will miss that will turn me into a criminal over night.
  21. I live down here and they will harass you for anything. Pretty sure I was listening to Steve Rinella podcast and he actually got detained when a cop saw his knife clip on his pocket while riding the subway. It's BS.
  22. Anyone know if you can waterfowl hunt in any of the state parks/forests in the southern zone? If so what has been your experience. I am looking for some public land to do a little duck hunting so if anyone has any recommendations it would be much appreciated.
  23. I have been very fortunate to mainly hunt private land, but am interested in exploring and finding new spots. I am also looking to get out hiking and camping this summer while scouting. I have been researching a little on the internet and am trying to figure out where I can go hike for the day and then pitch a tent and sleep for the night and then continue hiking/scouting then next day. It looks like you can do what they call "primitive camping" which is basically camp anywhere as long as your are 150 ft from a trail and be ok. Is this only for state forests though? I was looking at the following locations: 1. Stewart State Forest 2. Sterling Forest State Park 3. Harriman State Park Can anyone tell me if this strategy is illegal in any of the above locations and if my method is flawed, or you would do this differently. I would like to make a weekend out of it instead of doing a lot of driving in the morning and then back at night. BK
