  1. At least you'll be out, good luck.
  2. That's what I loved about that bow, I thought for sure it was never going to let back down. I literally held it out in front of me looking at it at full draw. Congrats on the purchase.
  3. Well I invited my neighbor over to shoot bows tonight and brought up the whole baiting scenario to see what he would say. He was completely against baiting with piles of corn and apples, didn't mention anything about salt licks. So, like the good person I am, I brought it up. He admitted to me that he uses salt licks solely out of season to get the deer more minerals for antler growth and for trail cam pics. Even admitted that he had one out right now, but was pulling it this weekend since they're done with antler growth. I wasn't sure what to say...so I asked him if he knew it was illegal to use them. He said, I know I can't use them during the season. I followed up with, according to NYS, you can't use them any time of year, not even to just get a few pictures. He was in awe. He was certain that he was perfectly legal by removing it before the season started. So I guess this is where the misinterpretation of the law or the he said/she said scenario comes into play. I pulled it up on my phone for him to see, he just said wow, didn't realize that. He actually got a little worried and wanted to go pull the block tonight. So if I were the type of guy that just acted on a situation before knowing the facts, I would have gotten him in a heap of trouble. He genuinely seemed disturbed about the whole situation and asked me if I wouldn't say anything to anyone...too late, haha. After talking with him and finding out his situation, I am glad I was able to approach it in such a manner that didn't point fingers at him. He did show me pictures (with salt block clearly in photos), but only had a few small bucks and mostly does on his cameras. Let's just say that made me happy.
  4. Let him walk, just double the amount of corn and put out another block to help him grow as much as possible between now and next season...
  5. I've talked with him on several occasions and know he grew up here in NY and moved here so his wife could be closer to her job. With that being said he should know the "law". I'm not known for being a jerk and don't want to start being one. He really seems harmless but has stated he doesn't get much time to hunt and tries to take advantage of the time he gets. I'm just wondering if he is aware that what he is doing is wrong, and if he is, is there where it stops? Or is it only the tip of the iceberg? I think I'll try to bring it up in casual conversation and see what his opinions are. Thanks for the input fellas.
  6. So a new couple moved in up the road from us in the spring of 2014. Guy stopped by introduced himself and we shot the crap for a while. Turns out he's a hardcore bowhunter like myself and has some nice deer on the wall to show for it. He only has 3 acres of property and it butts up to mine (field edge) and my other neighbors (woods). He got permission to hunt a small portion of my neighbors property and gave him permission to track a wounded animal or retrieve a dead one. On my afternoon walk today I walked down my field edge passed his property and noticed something oddly colored amongst the greenery about 30 yards from the property line. After looking through the binocs I could tell it was a salt lick under the apple trees with a camera set up on it. I was tempted to trespass and remove the block and then clear the camera but opted not to. I'm not sure how to approach the situation with him as I don't know too great. Do I just confront him and see what he says? See if he plays the ignorant roll of I didn't know it was illegal...or do I call my local ENCON and let him handle it? I'm generally the kinda guy that would rather confront the person and hope they make the right choice. He seems like a decent guy so I'm hoping a talk will resolve the issue. I'm just curious if it would, or if he'd just move the block out sight from my property...
  7. Im not sure the start drinking at 4 pm is something I'd do. But, A nice glass of single malt scotch about an hour before bed usually helps ease the nerves.
  8. Damn those are some tall beans! I'm not sure how high mine are, I'll have to measure them tomorrow.
  9. I've got one or two really small Fawns that I'm sure will retain their spots into October. I've seen them with spots quite a few times in mid October up north at hunting camp.
  10. Thanks for the opinions guys. I can say that since I only own ~96 acres here in Cayuga county, he's #1 on my hit list, and actually the only one on my hit list. I am pretty sure he is a 3 year old. He hangs out in the same area that a nice 2 year old 8 point was last year so I think he is the same buck. I literally have a plethera of 1-2 year old bucks that could be something nice over the next couple years. But I know my neighbors hunting style too well and they don't let anything walk by that has antlers. I do try to take 3 plus year olds on my property and have been fairly successful doing so. Here in my area, with the given hunting pressure, a 3 year old is a good buck. Granted he may not add up to what some others would like, he's a shooter here.
  11. 2 year old, legs still look long on his frame. Nice buck.
  12. I have videos of this buck for the last 5 weeks and every one was in the middle of the night. Well he finally showed up during daylight hours. Any guesses on the age of this fella? Sorry for the link, can't upload pictures straight to the forum any longer. http://s952.photobucket.com/user/Chiefbkt/library/Mobile%20Uploads?sort=3&page=1
  13. I think for the money, Browning is a pretty nice camera. Trigger speed is pretty fast.
  14. I wonder if any of them will show up on my cams?
  15. Savage model 220 bolt action 20 gauge suit your fancy?
  16. Awesome deer, he looks like a 4 year old if that's the same buck in both pics. Hope you get him.
  17. Saw some pens similar to these for sale last weekend in Penn Yan. I think it was around $55-$65 per pen...you should be selling them if you're not already!
  18. I will say it's a buck rub. I would think if it were a bear it wouldn't look so clean. It would take an awful lot of pressure from a bear to make that mark so nicely, at least in my opinion.
