  1. I think of my hunting camp. ~600 acres of nothing but standing timber between Williamstown and Redfield. No ag fields nearby or on the property, just a whole lot of big tall hardwoods with a few small parcels of pines.
  2. Tell me about it! I thought I'd sell it and buy something I'll use.
  3. My primary reason for hunting is because me and my family love venison. Secondly, I love trying to kill mature whitetail bucks with my bow.
  4. I really like these 2 locations and would bet one if not both of them would pay off. Knowing the surrounding hunting pressure would be nice. But, after a couple years you will be able to adjust to that. Being close to the lake I am assuming these are the prevailing wind directions.
  5. I'm going to single out location F of Phades in depth stand outline. I'm not sure if it's just a mowed field or if it's a tall grassy area just to the north of it. But often times deer and more importantly bucks will use this as a comfort zone if the grass is tall enough. By tall enough I mean above waist high. It could almost act as staging area to certain extent. Deer will feel comfortable passing through it and hanging out there. Again, if it's tall grass. If it's short mowed grass, could still pan out as a higher paced transition area as Phade mentioned. Looks like a nice spot, good luck and keep us posted.
  6. Since you're new, look for a bow with a brace height of 6 3/4" or greater. They will typically be more forgiving. Hate to say it, but if you have a Dicks, Gander, or Bass Pro near you hit one up. Only reason I say this is because they typically carry several different brands of bows for you to shoot. I would advise not purchasing one there as most of the guys in their pro shops are hacks. If you have an archery pro shop nearby stop and see what they have. Archery talk is a great place to buy a bow if you're experienced. Don't rush into a purchase. Like everyone else has said, you need to shoot bows, several bows, and you'll know when you find the right one.
  7. For those of you on here that film your own hunts, what video editing software do you use? I have a Sony Handycam for a camera and don't have any actual video editing software. Ideally I'd like to find a free program but, would spend some money on software if I had to purchase it. Any suggestions or tips for a program to use would be much obliged.
  8. Here is the mount in use with my Browning camera. I used the strap to mount it to the tree about 6.5 feet off the ground. Blends in fairly well.
  9. Gold Tip pro hunters
  10. Phade, how much Urea you looking for?
  11. Savage model 210 bolt action 12 gauge with Leupold 2-7x33 scope. This is a non-accutrigger model. Also comes with 3+ boxes of Winchester supreme ammo. Asking $650/BO or trade for gun of similar value. Gun shoots great, just haven't used it since we went to rifle here in Cayuga county.
  12. After being triggered, I know mine don't turn off until they're done capturing the picture sequence or video footage. That could be the delay you saw.
  13. I took the instructions from the link that NYBuckhunter posted and made some slight modifications to the bracket. I've included pictures of all the parts that were used. The changes I made were to attach the swivel mount to a piece of super strut that I cut to 4". I did this because I really don't like screwing things into trees and it would allow me to still use my current straps that are on the cameras. I can always replace the eye bolt with a self tapping one if needed. I then replaced the standard nut with a nylon lock nut. This will keep the nut from loosening when adjusting and keeps constant pressure on the swivel. Painted some parts separately and then once again when fully assembled. All my cams are out so I wasn't able to get a pic of it attached to a camera. Should work just fine though. All together I spent around $22. Most expensive purchase was the flat paint at $6 (there was no flat store brand paint to be had at my local Ace hardware). I had the super strut in my shop so no expense was incurred there.
  14. Just happened to move a camera on a water source yesterday. Its a slow moving creek that I have stands at various postions on.
  15. Moved the cameras around a little bit to see if there were any stragglers around. A move that didn't pay off...haha. Here are a few pics from the latest card pulls.
  16. Every year there would be one less monster buck hanging out in that back yard...
  17. I have 2 Browning Dark Ops and 1 Browning Strike Force game camera, all 2014 models. I am very pleased with the cameras. Like Phade said, the blackflash pictures aren't the greatest, especially if the animal is moving. I am still playing around with the camera to find the optimal settings. So far it looks like the lower resolution setting is working out better at night. The daytime pictures are really superb. The trigger speed on the cameras is amazing and the battery life is unreal. I haven't had to recharge the batteries since the cameras have been out (thousands of pics since April) and there is plenty of life left. The battery quality was good during the cold months of winter when I had them out too. I set the cameras on video mode yesterday after I pulled the cards to see how they perform. Some of the feautres that I really like are the multi shot options (up to , the 4 resolution settings (2,4, 8, 10), and the timelapse. They were purchased from Trailcampro.com, mainly due to the fact that they came with an 8GB memory card and 2 year warranty from them. I would buy them again.
  18. Awesome pics Wooly! Cool encounter that's for sure.
  19. Yeah, he looks pretty good. Can't wait to see pics in a few weeks.
  20. I've got 3 Browning cams that were under $125 each that I'm very pleased with. They have video with sound, only downfall is 10 second night video on certain models of their cameras.
  21. I shoot my bow year around so I don't get out of "bow shape". Probably also helps that I work out and do 100 pull-ups and 200 push ups 4-5 days a week. But like some others have said, best way to develop your bow muscles is to shoot your bow.
  22. I would have to say an Alaskan moose hunt (or any moose hunt) with my bow would be at the top of my list. Followed by an elk hunt with my bow as a close second. We have a friend of the family that lives in Maine so I applied for their permit a few years in a row back in the early 2000's with no luck ever drawing one. That's as close as I got to moose hunting.
  23. Room looks good. Only touch I would add (aside from your future mounts) would be some hunting themed drapes or curtains.
