  1. Went out one final time today with the bow. Sat from 9-5. Ended up seeing 11 does/fawns (passed on all of them) and the small 1 or 2 year old 8 point again. Put the cameras out and will be watching to see what has made it through the season. Ended up putting 7 deer in the freezer so it was a good year.
  2. I'm pretty fortunate, I was able to hunt about 40-50 days this year. Way more than in the years passed. We have a farm with ~100 acres so I don't have to travel. We also have a camp in the northern zone with ~600 acres that is about an hour away. I only make it up there a few times a year.
  3. Nice work and way to be persistent. That's a nice size doe that I'm glad someone will get to enjoy.
  4. Yes, just my thoughts. But remember you suggest to change a hunting schedule/routine that's been in place for decades. I'm not sure how many would accept that.
  5. I think if the state did this you would see an immediate decline in hunting license sales. I feel that they would have to drastically reduce the price of licenses to keep the numbers where they are. Which means they would have to offset the costs elsewhere. A good majority of the guys I know gun hunt exclusively. There's no way they'd pay what they do now for nine days of gun. I do agree with eliminating the northern/southern zone. I'm not sure I ever knew what the purpose is.
  6. I'm happy with the two I get now. I would be fine with the option to purchase an additional buck tag after you've filled yours.
  7. Congrats on a great buck! You'll have to let us know if you get the story published.
  8. You're totally right Doc, it could have ended up much worse. That was part of my reasoning for leaving my gun. I thought If he saw I had no gun he wouldn't feel obligated to turn his on me. But like you said, for some of the crazies it may not have mattered. By no means am I physically intimidating person at 5'10" and 165 lbs, but you'd have thought I was 6' 4" 250 from this guys demeanor while I was confronting him.
  9. Here is a picture of the actual woods. I took this a few weeks ago from my stand.
  10. his face was kind of like this when I got to him... I'm sure the woods scene looked similar to this...
  11. Hope your friend and his son have a quick recovery.
  12. So I was sitting in my double stand on the the edge of the wheat field and my buddy was sitting about 600 yards away in a stand that overlooks my food plot and corn field. He sends me a text about 8:40 and says "hey can you see that guy?" I respond with "no." He then says "There is a guy walking down the edge of your cornfield and is headed into your woods." At this point I put on my orange, unload my gun, and climb down to confront this guy since he is only about 200 yards away from me. I made my way towards this rather stout guy who was in full blaze orange. He saw me coming and initially tried to hind behind a tree...dumba$$, you're in blaze orange, good try though. So he notices that I see him and I am on a b-line for him and takes off on a dead run through my open hardwoods. Needless to say I am in my early 30's and in pretty good shape. I quickly unbuckle my backpack, lean my gun against a tree and sprint after him. He notices me chasing after him, drops his gun (a Remington 870 wingmaster filled to the gills with Remington sluggers, by no means a deer gun), collapses onto a downed tree, and puts his hands up. I stopped about 10 yards from him and asked him why he was running? His response, "cause you were chasing me"...seriously man? I laughed and said I was chasing you cause you were running from me, on my Posted property. He says "yeah, I guess that's true." I asked him what he was doing trespassing and what made him think he wouldn't get caught. He fed me a bunch of BS and it basically came down to the fact that he and his friend had seen a nice buck in the cut corn field a few days ago and thought it was their friends property that said they could hunt there. So I took his name, number (called in the woods to verify), address, and followed him to his truck (where his friend was waiting) wrote down his license plate number and make/model of vehicle. I told him if I ever caught him again I would be pressing charges. Now this guy and his partner were from Lyons, in their late 40's to early 50's, and clearly thought they would get away with this. I am hoping I scared them enough that they won't return, ever. So after trouncing through the woods after this guy I figured I would go pick up my cameras. I gathered them up and was happy to see this young buck made it through the gun season. I think he is 1 or 2 year old. In the second picture I think he was watching me chase the guy through the woods since we were only about 100 yards away from him at that point. I am not sure this is the buck they saw in the field, but it could be.
  13. Yes surprisingly there are a decent amount of beans still left on the stalk. I've had a camera on it since we cut them and the activity has been minimal. It's a pretty high pressure area during gun on the other side of the beans (my neighbor) so hopefully once that's over they'll frequent the area more. I have to check my cams but I've seen deer over there more during the last week. I'll try to get a pic of the beans if I get over there today.
  14. I plan on hunting the 1/2 acre of soybeans I left up and my 1/4 acre purple top turnip food plot. I've had cameras on both and there appears to be a steady flow of does cruising through there. I'm thinking 1 more in the freezer would be perfect.
  15. I shoot a 2012 Diamond Dead Eye (made by Bowtech) and have no complaints. They don't make it any more or I'd recommend that. I did however hear that Bowtech and or Diamond are supposed to have some new styles/features being released soon. On a side note, I did have the pleasure of shooting an Obsession Evolution early this fall and fell in love with it. If I was in the market for a new bow that's what I would have purchased. I also shot the Elite energy 32 and liked that as well, but not as much as the Obsession.
  16. Rack has nothing to do with judging his age. Tough pic to judge from, but I'd say a really nice 2 or a good 3 year old.
  17. I think I need to purchase a lever action .35
  18. Hunting at the in laws farm. Nestled in an oak and hickory forest between 2 cut bean fields. Lots of tracks.
  19. If you can find a way to buy it, buy it. Or you could end up regretting it when someone else buys and is a B-hole or worst, puts in a huge development.
  20. I had my .300 WSM out today too. Still looking for my first kill with it. Nice coyote!
  21. Warm, dark, and quiet out. Could hear a squirrel fart if they were out. Let's see what happens this morning.
  22. Depends on if its northern or southern zone. There are more ag fields and better hunting in the western (southern zone) part of oswego county. Dont get me wrong there is plenty of good hunting in the northern zone portion of it as well. It's more big woods hunting than anything though. Don't forget you'll most likely need to purchase insurance if you plan on having more than yourself there.

    Growths?

I wouldn't eat it. I showed my wife who seemed to think they may be some type of caseous lymphadenitis. She said it could possibly be spread to humans but wasn't sure.
  24. Wow, there's one of the 150"+ 8 points that can be found in NY.
