First shot in four weeks, missed again!
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Core's topic in Bow Hunting
bend the left knee, right leg out straight. whatever you have to get your torso perpendicular the line from your to the deer. the closer the deer is to the stand the more you have to bend. basically if you just move your left arm down to take the shot you are putting additional back pressure on limbs by pulling longer. more pressure =more energy=shooting high as steep angles. Then there is that whole gravity and angles thing that causes you to shoot high at up or downhill angles even with perfect form. Only way to get good at it is practice like you hunt. -
yeah, I'd be back in the stand right now...lol

I'm changing my stance on XBOWS
Culvercreek hunt club replied to Buckmaster7600's topic in Deer Hunting
were there any footnotes to this long term study. I just can't get that math to work or we wouldn't have the large population increases we have seen in many of the Western NY WMU's. The average for a buck to sire a fawn over his entire breeding life isn't 2? when they say the does come into heat at the "same time" it is generally within a 2 week window. (so 14 days.). if the average is 48 hours tending and a day to find another. that is almost 5 does breed. Add into that the possibilities of multiple cycles. 2 maybe 3. could be 10-15 per buck? -

That is taking the "little bit before legal shooting light" a bit far...lol -

If they were in monogamous relationships I might agree, but one buck can breed many does. Let me go out on a limb here and guess that you don't bow hunt? -
LMAO!!!!

I am for inclusion as well, but let's be realistic. The type of hunter that will push the limits of their skill set and the weapons capabilities are not going to change regardless of the weapon in their hands. Wounded at 40 with a compound or wounded at 60 with a cross bow really doesn't matter. I read the threads every year and see the stories of the hunters that have no business taking the shots that they do. the "I had pretty decent groups at 30" and then taking 40+ yard shots on game. -

Why? -
actually if they are available at the start of the business day everyone gets them that applies for that area. At the end of the day they close the areas where the quotas are met and a new open area list is generated for the following day.

If anyone is gonna spend a grand on a ML I would suggest a more versatile platform like an Encore.

Skillet, Did the owner know how old that Buff is? nice animal but in all honesty I expected it to look bigger? Any idea on how much it weighed on the hoof? -
Best option in my mind it to stop by the neighbor and talk about it. Explain where your stand is and ask who will be actually hunting from it, their experience level and such. Take the safety angle and just ask to make you that they know where YOU are while in your stand. Tell them you are trying to avoid any accidents. Heck it may not even be the landowner and just someone they gave permission too. I have one stand on a neighboring property like this and after talking to the guy he conveyed that he would only be in it on week day mornings. So basically we aren't in the close stands at the same time, so it became a non-issue.

Rage broadheads turned me into a believer today

I am not a fan of fold back mechanicals. I have shot very fast and pretty powerful bows since about 1998. one year I chose to use the fold back style. shot 3 deer that year and the beginning of the next season, all inside 20 yards. no shoulder shots and I didn't pass through on a single one. If I was choosing I would use a rear deploying like the Rage. I think you lose too much energy while those blades are folding back. -
Two Monroe County sheriff's deputies happened to be at the hospital when the deer staggered in. Assisted by UR's public safety officers, the deputies took the deer out of the hospital. "They strapped it to a gurney and wheeled it across the parking lot," said Cpl. John Helfer, spokesman for the sheriff's office. The deputies called animal control about 5:40 p.m., and the deer was euthanized. From the D&C. I guess those "trigger happy cops" may have called for back up.

So Joe Landowner that doesn't hunt, walks out onto his property and finds a deer that just died. what can he do legally? I walk onto my property and find a recently dead deer and I do hunt, what can I do legally?
