  1. No mi issue is the attitude that shotguns can not be as accurate as a rifle at 100 yards. They can be. Like Doe said a bullseye is a bullseye.
  2. I would love for you to show me where I said shotguns were more accurate than rifles.
  3. I just found it funny that you injected 5 BOLT rifles and a generic shotgun.
  4. We are talking about two individual guns now. That isn't where this started. I would think a better evaluation would be to go to a range and just watch those shooting rifles and those shooting shotguns, scoped and at 100 yards. See just how close is close enough for the ones leaving the bench.
  5. Dam kids!!! no idea about a Gunsmoke reference. We really gotta get you out more. lol
  6. Not to get off topic but I have seen several shotguns that would outshoot several rifles at 100 yards. You may not own one but I have seen rifles that could barely hold a 3" group at 100 and slug guns that could cut holes at that distance. It really has nothing to do with the type of firearm. there are good ones and ones that suck in both classes.
  7. There are tow more things that Chromeslayer didn't mention that are key besides Food. That would be FOOD and FOOD.
  8. A little bit of coyote with the 308 today. 130 yards. Bummer can't post a pic from my phone it seems
  9. I see more fox and coyote tracks than I see rabbit and pheasant tracks. That didn't use to be the case on the property I hunt. The habitat is still very good rabbit cover but they aren't there any more. Until I see that change I will take every fox and coyote I see. Unfortunately hawks are protected because I would lump them right in with the other two.
  10. That is one ounce of shot. look at the fps. the slugs are faster which hits harder. I tried to get he slug info but you had to be a member. Most of the modern 12 gauge sabots are over 1500 and some at the 1900 mark.
  11. Mike, What points from HSUS has anyone used? We all know from your posts you are passionate about dove hunting. Great. Truth is I see more pigeons than I do doves in a year. Just can't get all ramped up for hunting something that when opportunity isn't there. For the record a Lion hunt can be had for less than 100k, especially if you couple it with a multiple animal hunt. Very goo friend of mine took 12 animals over there and (mounting cost aside) I was surprised at the cost.
  12. Those are raw numbers with a lot of variables. operating system of the gun and the weight changes make a huge difference.
  13. http://www.chuckhawks.com/shotgun_recoil_table.htm Doesn't have slugs but should give an idea. http://www.chuckhawks.com/recoil_table.htm
  14. Probably didn't word that right. I shouldn't have said the campaign I meant more someone that is supportive of their campaign. Virgil. With as freaking wacky as both extremes have gotten I can't say that anything would surprise me, honestly.
  15. Let me spin this another. way. Think it is possible that the Brady Campaign DID put this out knowing they could deny it and go for the sympathy support?
  16. I shot a tripod mounted Ma Deuce. It was $2 a round. cycle time wasn't as fast as I expected but boy it reached out there. Shot the M-60, and old water cooled WW1 british, Thompson with a full drum. bunch of other small hand held. But my absolute favorite was a MG-42. I can't imagine our soldiers heading straight into that thing in WW 2. When you got past the cool factor and really think about being on either end of these weapons it gave my goosebumps and an awesome appreciation for what the soldiers are really made of.
  17. I may be wrong but I think the 500 youth model is actually the same gun as the adult version with the modified stock and I think the short barrels. This is good because you can just pick up a full sized stock if he out grows the youth stock. And 500 barrels are pretty easy to come by used at the gun shows. Just found this. They actually give you a certificate for 50% off a full sized stock when you need it. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Mossberg-Youth-Series-Bantam-and-Super-Bantam-Shotguns/709965.uts
  18. I would disagree with the content no matter who authored it. I can't imagine the Brady group put it out there I would bet it is misinformation. However. The first point is wrong, The second point is wrong and the final point is not detailed enough. The police in most cases will do their job but that usually only involves a piece of white chalk and an outline of the victim.
  19. Knob Creek,. I want to get down one of these years. I went to one 4 years in a row up in Maine. It was a rush to watch and even more fun the two years I bought a firing line pass and shot some of the guns. They had one session that was suppressed fire. Some of the silencers were great. One 22lr all you could hear was the action slamming on the cycle and the bullet hitting the target. At night they had a whole session and it was tracers galore. These guys had more than every fifth round. must have been tough on the barrels but it was like a star wars movie. the tracers looked like lasers.. I saw one demo with a trailer mounted double mini gun. It took a bus and in minutes sliced it like a loaf of bread
  20. If you can swing the cost I would also vote for an autoloader if recoil was a concern. My only hesitation is what I saw growing up with one cousin that started out with one. He thought process was always "more is better" when hunting. He seem to always throw out more lead than taking careful aim with the first shot. That can de avoided with a bit of instruction, training and practice.
