  1. Q and A section right off the DEC website- Q: What types of attractants are legal for deer hunting? A: You may use cover scents and lures, such as doe urine, for deer hunting. However, it is illegal to place a salt block or mineral lick on lands inhabited by deer at any time of year. It is also illegal to feed deer. Some attractants that are marketed for deer are liquids or dissolving powders which deer may not directly consume, but the attractants may entice deer to feed on the material which absorbed the attractant. These types of produces would not be legal.
  2. Erussell---not illegal to sell it. I actually bought some a few years back and took it to southern CT for a buddy of mone. since it was legal to bait there he had a hard time finding any variety on short notice. Since I worked out there I made the drop for him...lol. I felt like a smuggler. I did go with him a couple times and while I wasn't carrying a gun I don't see the draw in that hunting. They litterally were like cows coming in to eat. Mark me down as not for it too. but it isn't illegal to sell...or posess...just to use.
  3. With idiots like these guys out there I't hard to beleive more folks aren't against hunters... all these shots at a deer that doesn't run...IQ has to be about a 4
  4. NO biggie----just my years in Boy Scouts paying off...lol
  5. No need to worry about the ladder lifting. trees don't grow up. the grow out at the tip of the branches...tip of the roots and out in diameter.(Otherwise 100 year old barbed wire fences would be like closeline height...lol) So as long as that connection stay solid you are golden.
  6. They are a great gun...especially for the amount they cost. I get all tangled up and want to know that ny guns are on out to 200......then hunt thick cover and shoot the majority under 75...lol. But knowing I could if I had to is a good feeling. I alsp use the shockwaves. Have heard negative comments but they have performed very well for me.
  7. Great advice WNY....last thing I want to see in the woods is a hunters bare back side....unless Tiff is in the woods
  8. I knew it had fiber just been a long time since I shot iron sights. remember them covering a lot of the target back then. That is why I always used the top of the bead
  9. I haven't even carried mine since I got my ML and I really think my ML kicks less than the 1187. WHen I did carry it I made the usual trip to the range for the confidence shot. I used the same gun for small game so I pulled the cantilever barrel off every year but never did it change. SHot 3" federal premium with barnes expanders NMYslowhand----I hear that. I tried my brother in laws NEF ONCE!!!...3-1/2" 10 ga. extra full choke ...I would rather give up turkey hunting if that was my only option. I have shot some big rifles in my life but nothing kicked me like that. My arm was numb after 2 shots.
  10. Nine months is common in Monroe County...I am 4 months in on mine right now
  11. Camera phones are our best friend....face....tag number and license plate are as good as gold. My best stoy is as follows. I am up north on my uncles posted property ...bow hunting the early season. I went in 2 weeks before and set up muy stand. I climbed in very early oopening day and was all settled in. after about 20 minutes I see a flashlight coming in from adjacent property and the guy walks up to about 10 yards in front of me and climbes into a stand. His back is right to me and I was almost laughing that this guy had set his stand up right in front of me. I let it get light and never said a word. I knew the morning was shot. You should have seen the look on his face when he turned around and was looking eye to eye with me. I climbed out and so did he. He came towards me with an attitude and I asked him what he was doing here. He said his uncle owns the property and I better get out. I said "That is strange.....I have never seen you at any reunions and since my uncle owned it too we must be cousins" He got reall pale and I told him he had 15 minutes to get his stand down and get out of my sight. I have never seen screwed in steps come out so fast...lol I often worry about my camp and folks messing around in there since it is so remote....knock on wood no issues in 4 years. I would love to have one of those remote trail cams that emails the pics to you for security.....get the pics of the perps emailed to you but the cost is too crazy for now. Maybe they will come down in a few years
  12. sbuff...I have never used a peep but don't they still have the front bead so you still end up with a cover the impact point problem?
  13. OK...my basis ic central and western Ny...here is my take. a 1.5 year old everage buck will be 4-6 points with 8-10" spread a 2.5 year old will average 6-8 points with a 10-12" spread weight 1.5 year---125-140 field dressed 2.5 year 135-155 field dressed.
  14. Nothing personal Fantail and don't take this the wrong way...but your eyes are not capable of the accuracy the gun is. If you did scope it I bet you would be astounded at what that gun is capable of. I know all the iron sight guys are gonna hop all over me but most guys are not capable of long range iron sight shooting. That front bead covers up a lot of the animal at 75 and longer. before my eyes got bad I shot Iron sights and what I found that helped was using the TOP of the bead as the impact point and sighting it in that way. Just worked better for me not covering the target. Try that Fantail if you get a chance. I bet a couple inches can hide behind that bead pretty easy at 50 yards.
  15. I hear ya CNY---- I am 45 and my father shot a deer when I was 8....He said "I am gonna show you this once" and he was serious. I tease him the knife he has on his belt is a prop for looks.....He hasn't used it since...lol
  16. when I have melted it before I usually didn't have much to skim off...airborne...who knows. I always did it outside. Lead sources are getting harder and harder to find from what i see
  17. I have a nylon breech and nipple brush and bought old dental picks at a gun show...like the ones they use to clean your teeth. Where are you from Fantail?
  18. I have never made bullets but use to make my own sinkers....will have to start that again since you can't buy good lead ones anymore. I use to get it from old fire rated doors. there is a sheet about an 1/8" thinck the whole size of the door inside them...just takes a little grinder work and there is a lot right there.
  19. Bill.....Not good flow?....they have meds for that now-a-days...lol I haven't put anyout this year..timeis tight and I hae been spending free time at football games...building up brownie point for next month Do you remember what that powder was called?
  20. John If you know anyone in residential construction see if you can get sink cut outs from solid surface countertops...the make GREAT cutting boards. Then you will be ready for next year. I don't like wood boards...they are too tough to make sure they are clean and glass ones are too tough on the knives. the solid surface clean nicley with bleech and you don't have to woory about them soaking it up like wood.
  21. You guysa finding it hard to find lead to melt down lately?
  22. enjoy it...It looks great. glad to see double hung windows on most of it...casements make it too hard to shoot out of...lol
  23. not sure in the sun, Doc....always empt when I check it. I have used i bottle a week but I water it down some when I rely on the day heat and not the sun to make it work. I have had bucks on it but never have taken one off a scrape I made. so no...it's not worth it if you measure it in venison in the freezer but is is you get satisfaction out of knowing you fooled one and he was there...even if you weren't...lol
  24. I'd put it out...I have 3 scrapes near one of my stands already. sunlight will make it drip more...I like mne in the shade, I think it uses less scent. the heat increases the pressure inside and forces the liquid out the tube. I found direct sunlight really pumps it out.
