So I got the word that the corn got cut Friday at a favorite local doe spot. Went there yesterday and saw 4 doe that came out with plenty of daylight. I was glad as this spot has alot of local pressure. I held of on the doe in hopes of a rack but nothing but another doe came out. Got out of work at 3 and hauled home, changed and was on stand around 330 ( yea, I know... I'm that guy). Had a small basket come out within minutes of me sitting down. Cruised through the corn and headed to the thick stuff. 10 min later I see this guy pop out the same spot. Glassed him and decided to pass as I thought he was inside his ears and a standard 2.5 8pt. He headed across the field and got into a short row of standing corn. I decided to put the Nikon to work and get a close look. I immediatly saw a little point on his main beam and when he looked up I saw something going on with his brow tine. Game on... I had sticks so I settled down on the third bubble on the Nikon (183yrds) and he would not go broad side. He started to come back at me and when he went to a quarter to I sent a meat missle right through his chest. He wheel barreled for about 40 yrds and I saw him flop. Now, I will tell you I had the exact opposite of ground shrinkage !!! He is a stud. I assume 4.5 and can prob be a booner. One of my best with the gun and first with the savage 220. That ends my buck tags for 17' and I am tickled !!! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I completely disagree with that article ! Save the genitals to prove sex.... I always hang them in a close by tree. Some college professor can't change my mind ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Guess my point was that it's not always about the kill.... I get it though. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I know it's not the perfect ending to his hunt, but enjoying these animals as they do there thing can be as exciting as putting one down. As I read this I thought it was awesome that he couldn't shoot and had to watch ! The rut is cool, and he will never forget that. Shot or no shot. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Sometimes mature deer will bed where they can watch guys walk in and out. Seen it many times with big old bucks. If there's a solid trail for hunters to walk, or a common area for foot traffic, they will prob continue to bed there. If there's a bunch of drives put through the heart of the bedding than that could have them searching for alternate bedding. My 3cents Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

There is big bucks. There are small bucks. There are weird racked bucks. There's big bodied spikes and skinny 12pts. There's also memories. There's comrodery. There's sportsmanship. Theres beautiful sunsets and amazing scenery. Theres time away from work, or wife. Theres steaks, burgers and jerky. Anywhere in there can be somebody's reason to hunt and any deer taken could be a trophy to someone. We can't argue that big bucks are what we dream of, but sometimes that button buck means more than the next state record. Do your thing. Enjoy what you do. It's your season !! I remember it well. Sat out in a white out in am. Called it. When in and did the driveway. Back out for a pm blizzard hunt.... Couldn't tell he had horns till he was at 30 yards... Ran back to house and grabbed the wheeler and barely got him back to the house !! Spent the next couple days butchering ! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I use a 6mm rem. (.244) Killed every deer I shot very quickly. Tack driver accuracy. My .02 is that there is better options out there, unless it will be multi purpose (deer, chucks, small game etc). If it's a deer only rifle there are many options that are better suited for a deer only rifle, that are not hard on the wallet or the shoulder. As far as shot placement goes, I recommend staying far away from the shoulders. Typically you won't punch a big enough entry for good blood tracking. I've done it twice with the 6mm and thankfully recovered both within 75 yrds. No blood but shoulders were blown up good. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I'd tack a note on the tree with your contact information. I'd also hang a cam high up to catch whoever comes looking for there cam. Then A. You know who it is when they call for there cam back or B. You see them on cam or C you have proof of they deny tresspasing and still want the cam back. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Decided to stay in 9f instead of my favorite opening day 9m spot. Dad's call because of weather.... So far no rain and the best part is.... I saw a bobcat come behind the blind, ranged it at 38 yrds ! How many of you nys hunters can say they saw a bobcat today ?? It was a giant. Prob weighed about 6000#. Had tracks instead of paws too. Smelled like diesel. My mornings a bust... Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
