  1. Right place at the right time. Shot this 24 pound gobbler dropping off a chainsaw at a friends house. Pulled up to the front of the house, saw turkey in the woods about 40 yards off, asked him if he minded me shooting one on his property, he said be my guest of course. Snuck into the woods up in front of them and waited a minute for them to move my way, dropped this tom at about 25 yards. Spent about 12 hours in the woods before that with out seeing or hearing anything. What I am wearing in this pic is exactly what I was wearing when I snuck into the woods, blaze orange cap and all. I didn't even think about it, lol.
  2. Now that is a cool mount!

Make sure to check your family jewels too. Thats where I found one once, it wasnt very fun getting it off either. I hear they like the warmth.
  4. Everyone has their own opinion. I have heard a ton of info from all over, everything from hind legs kicking in the air is a good shot, to deer getting low to the ground and running with tail between legs is a gut shot, and everything in between. One of the first deer I ever shot was with a 30-30 at about 30 yards, standing broadside looking right at me. I shot and she just stood there. I thought I missed, I couldn't believe it. I slowly ejected the spent casing and loaded another one in. I raised the rifle to take a follow up shot, put the bead on her, just about to squeeze the trigger, but then... SHE FALLS OVER DEAD! I was like "What the hell was that?" When I dressed her, it was a double lung shot. Go figure.
  5. Who said anything about shooting from a vehicle? That would be an issue weather it was the landowner him self or a trespasser alike. The discussion at hand is people trespassing on private property, weather they are hunting or not, local PD should respond to it and should ask if you want to file a report. Next thing im gonna hear is that if a guy breaks into your house with a gun, but hes wearing a camo jacket, you should call the DEC, cause maybe he was hunting right before he broke into your house.
  6. Awesome! Love the detail on the head and face, very nice looking work. Do you know what this bear weighed? What does a rug mount with the mouth open like that cost?
  7. Surely hb270deermanager will post some pictures of the work he is so proud of. I'm still waiting... After I had my first buck mounted I was inclined to figure out what exactly went into the job. I did a lot of research about taxidermy online, including watching lots of videos and it is NOT an easy task! Although it is something I would still like to try. If I lived up where I hunt I would have surely tried mounting a smaller buck to see how it comes out.
  8. I hope this gets signed. http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S2486-2011
  9. So after reading this thread I went and smelled all my under armor. They have no smell what so ever. I wear mine for work and hunting, and the ones I have are about 3 years old now. Maybe I'm just not as smelly as you stinkers.
  10. I guess they just power through the snow like bison? lol
  11. Itching to get into the woods...

  12. If you have the cash to do it, its great fun. I turned down a free sled that was in good shape just recently because of the price of gas and everything else associated with them... I'd rather be on a quad any way. If you decide to get one, go 4 stroke IMO
  13. It isn't a hunting issue, its trespassing. Weather the trespassers are hunting or not, they are no supposed to be there. Are you telling me that if a guy put up a tree stand in your front yard and you called the police about it, they would tell you to call the DEC?
  14. Yes, this is how I still hunt, except I quit smoking.
  15. GOOD LUCK! Wish I could be out there.
  16. It starts off very anti-hunting until halfway down the 3rd page.
  17. Great buck! Congrats to him
  18. I know they say that there are some wild pigs running around in NY, but will these things really survive a NY winter? I think any snow over a foot and a half and they're dead, look how low to the ground they are.
