Folks thanks so much for the help…..it worked!!! He is stable and the meds are all balancing out in his system. The talk is he might be able to come home in 3-5 days with his oxygen in tow. All you have to do is believe…. I have been here as a member for many years. This group is far above any other website hunting group I have been on. Yes we all get on each others nerves once in a while but the support, knowledge and dedication you members put out there second to none! Thank you so much and have a wonderful and safe Holiday season!

Great late season food plot picture

That 10 acre piece I bought last year is all pine. Over the years many of them got chocked out by the big trees and rotted. They are always falling making a tangled nest in there. I can bet dollars to donuts that every time we go through the trail we jump a number of deer bedding. I too will start opening up the canopy in some other areas on my property and do some hinge cutting. -
Merry Christmas!

A man I have known almost 35 years. He was one of the first guys I met when I came up to my Brother in laws house to hunt. He was a big guy that farmed, had a construction business and had every piece of heavy equipment you could imagine. My eyes were always wide open and my ears perky as he would hold court with the local guys that hung around his garage. His house and land was always open to me and every once in a while I would catch him for a cup of coffee just the two of us, it was memorable. I have harvested some of my biggest deer from his property. He comes from a long line of decendants in Schuyler county, has a wonderful family and he will always have a special place in my heart. He is battling multiple complications in the hospital right now. Prayers needed please…..thank you.

Best Memory Of The Season, Without Killing A Deer
First-light replied to DirtTime's topic in General Hunting
I guess because my time is very limited I wasn't going out to kill a deer but to sit back and relax. I wanted to watch all my friends and family enjoy the place I call "deer camp" Oh and yes to see my brothers grandson at the age of 5 sit up in a tree stand with him for 5 hours on opening day! -
I'm having a hard time with him not finding a blood trail. That arrow is in the back leg and stuck up through the deer. It had to be twisting and turning as it ran? I guess the guts could plug up the hole.
-
Folks the deer was found this morning. It was about 125 yards from his stand. In the total opposite direction it ran after being hit. From the looks of the arrow in the back leg it entered where the red dot was but traveled down through guts and out the other side hitting the back leg. You can see the arrow sticking out of the back leg. I think this animal was gut shot circled back around and tried to get back where it was bedded for the day. What are your thoughts?

Pretty hard to tell they like them all but have saved the turnips for last. They started hitting them a few weeks ago. Plots are about 50'x175' -

Happy birthday guys! -
Thanks everyone for your help. He was out this morning for 3 hours and could not locate her. We had 3 inches of snow overnight which did not help the situation. Poor kid is so upset about this. I'm drilling into him to let the quartering to shots pass.
-
My Nephew was hunting alone last night. He shot a huge doe around 3:40. Deer was slightly quartering to him. Arrow hit just behind the shoulder. He said it went in pretty far. He said the impact sound was like a balloon loosing all its air. The deer ran off with the arrow in it. After searching for two hours he did not find one drop of blood. I think the arrow may of deflected off of bone and headed further back not catching any vitals. He is headed back this morning to look some more. Thoughts? This is a picture of the doe taken from his trail cam before the shot. Red dot is where he said he hit the deer.

3 weeks a year is pretty good. I got 2 per year when I was let go. Good luck on the job search. Tell her to kick back a while and enjoy some time off.

Sorry for your loss, he was too young to leave all of you.

It was 2 years ago that operator error caused me to not harvest a giant on 3 legs. This buck was shot opening morning by the neighbors. They blew off the left front leg below the knee of this 3.5+ deer. I saw him limping badly coming across the back of my property. He was a very wide buck with a lot of mass. He stopped at 50 yards or so and was deciding which way to go. He headed right for me. Came right under my stand so close I couldn't pick him up in the scope. Did another check took the safety off and squeezed the trigger. Nothing nada zero. Clicked the safety back tried again nothing. Now I look at the safety and click it over once more and still nothing. Somehow my 1187 auto loaded was jammed. At this point I pull the action back and slide it up with a new shell. Pull the trigger nothing. He starts to take off so I do it one more time and aging nothing. Deer is gone. I'm pissed and meet my brother and go over what happened. We unload the gun and put new shells in and it fired no problem. Here is what went wrong. When I loaded my gun in the stand that first shell didn't seat properly cause I had my hand on the action so it would make less noise. I did that on the second and third reload with the buck there. Lesson learned for sure. It's too bad nobody ever saw that buck again. He was a real nice one and probably met his demise with the Yotes.

Tarheelsaint, I took this buck back in 99. Wish I had a beter picture but it is really similar to your deer. It even has all those bumps on the base of the rack. Perfect 10pt that got me in the book at 125.75. You have a nice deer there. FL
