If a doe isn't ready to breed and she smells estrous scent she will head for the hills. The doe will think there will be a buck around harassing the doe who left the scent, she wants no part of this. I have had this happen a number of times.

I'm going with light field. I used to shoot copper solids but they jammed my gun a few times at the wrong moment!

God bless!

8P my hunting grounds…..many big deer and some huge racks!

My gang came home last night. Not much action except for that buck fight. One hunter did manage to keep the tradition going on taking a shot and missing. Plenty of sign around but the deer wren't moving. C'mon gun season!

This could suck. C'mon Mother Nature and blow that system out to sea!

That is really great. Congrats on a great buck and a super mounting job! (BTW did you butcher him yourself?….one stop shop right there lol)

Details: at 11:50 in my stand my brothers son in law witnessed two hug bucks fighting over a doe. He said it was an awesome sight. No shot but the doe did drift towards him and got whiff of the estrous scent and left the area. The bucks followed.

I imagine he meant it wasn't a stomach shot.

This guy will fit righting!! lol Today I heard that in my stand was my brothers son in law. He saw two monsters at 40 yards. Don'tnknow the details yet but exited to hear and see what happens tonight.

It happens. I have done that in the past. You will get over it and shoot something else. Hopefully that deer makes it. We have gotten a few with arrows in them that were healed over. Good luck

Just got my survey today. I'm baffled cause they say the backside of the property is longer than the front. I'll have to call them to get a clearer picture.

Shot one very similar to that one and scored 126. Great deer GL making the book!!

I had my 54 acres surveyed 8 years ago for $350 bucks (Steuben county). They did a great job. The recent survey bill has not come in yet. I'm guessing it will be about the same. Grow I'm thinking it wasn't surveyed before. Property was handed down in the family. Now that you are bringing this up I'm thinking it may be less than 10 acres? I'm shooting my lawyer an email now to check this out.

As i sit at the computer My brother and a friend are at the cabin. My niece and her husband will join them tomorrow. They hunted this afternoon and saw a button buck. Very warm out and not much deer movement. My brother will set up a stand on the adjacent property I just bought. Boy do I miss being up there. hopefully that will change for next year!!

FYI I just had a piece I bought surveyed. This is 10 acres that borders me so I know two corners. The surveyor only marked the corners and placed an additional two ribbons along the back and down my side. I thought by looking at the tax maps that the property was a rectangle pretty much in proportion. When I was up two weeks ago I found the other two markers and it seems as though the back end of the property is much smaller than the front. So now I wait for the actual survey map to double check. When I say smaller it has to be at least 2-300 feet shorter.

If you go to Long Island Deer Hunting on Facebook you will see that there was a spike in buck kills this past week. Some really nice deer taken. I believe they are seeking now thus leading to more kills. Its time to be in the woods!

Here on LI this past week posting of nice bucks taken really shot up. The definitely are in the seeking phase ruining around. BTW that website is run by an old grouchy guy…..lol. Some nice pictures on that site!

Just bought 10 acres adjacent to my land. Last weekend I found a ladder stand on it pretty close to my stand and in the honey hole area, bedding zone. Took it down and left it at the base of the tree with a posted sign on it. Thought it might be someone from town being dropped off or maybe guys leasing the land across the road. Turns out it was the land owner behind me that did not know his land boundaries. We are all on good terms and connected on a phone call and he asked if I took down the stand. We laughed because I never suspected them and thought they knew the boundary lines. Simple phone call cleared it all up, mystery solved.

I found a tree stand on the adjacent property to mine that I am buying. It was last weekend, no one has permission to hunt this property but me. The person cut a small tree down and some limbs. I took the stand down and placed it at the bottom of the tree with a posted sign on it. Hope he gets the message.
