    Herring

Just went over the Centerport bridge and a guy had a 5 gal bucket full of them.
  2. Thanks Zem. That big one I shot admittedly was not a good first hit. (Steve will bust on me for this) He was hit right through the hind quarters. I actually thought I broke his leg. He left no blood at all. I jumped him once in the beginning then gave him an hour to settle down. When I took up the trail I just followed his prints and a drag mark though the leaves. I ended up in a brushy field. I crossed a small stream turn a corner and there he was bedded down looking out into the brush. Something told me he was ready and he wouldn't be going anywhere. One of the other deer was a first time buck. I was real happy for the guy, his first time hunting with us also. A true gentleman hunter. He will be invited back. One last photo with me and my 6 point.
  3. Going to have this buck mounted showing his right shoulder, head straight up. This will be a first for that kind of mount. looking forward to the finished product!
  4. Welcome I hunt 8P. Great area of the state for sure!
  5. Neighbors father took a walk down to the area we shot these deer at. He sat for a little while and along comes a buck. He took the deer at 50 yards and it died right between two gut piles. My brother renamed the area "death valley"
  6. I just read an article in a magazine stating that a chicory clover blend can't be beat. Multiple smaller plots are better also. Left the magazine up at the cabin so I can't tell you which one it came from. I believe it was a 60/40 mixture, clover being the 60%.
  7. The one thing I see that makes me wonder is the tape going across the major trail. There was a reason he did that??? There must be more to the story, no?
  8. We didn't have one of these bucks on our trail cameras this year. There is just so much good food available in 8P. We were just very lucky with the timing of those two hot does. There are a lot of deer per square mile, have two does in estrous at the same time will draw them in big time. I do have to say, true for this year and in the past when there is a hot doe usually the smaller bucks will be right behind trailing her. The big boys come in a few minutes later.
  9. It was an amazing opening day for us at camp! My brother shot an 8 pt around 7:30 then all hell broke loose at 9:00. A hot doe cam through and a friend took the 6 pt that was chasing it.The doe runs past me and I take it only to see a huge buck coming down the swail on her scent. I shoot him, the buck which is a 7 pt weighed 185lbs dressed. It is the one laying in the field, very dark colored on the deer pole. My nieces husband gets back into my stand after we gutted the deer and got them out of the woods. It wasn't more than a half hour and another hot doe comes along with three bucks chasing her. He shoots the second which was a real nice 8. The third buck shows up and was a giant but he just had to watch as big deer just stood over the buck he just shot. This all happened in the morning!!!

  11. Brother been at camp since Wednesday. He has only seen one deer so far. It was a nice white horned buck he busted out of some thick stuff while walking out. If its the same buck from years past this guy is old and has some great mass. I head up at noon and my Niece, her husband and their friend come up late tonight. I have to leave mid-day Sunday so it's a quick hunt for me. Anything is fair game! lol Good luck to all bag a big old boy!!!
  12. It's so funny but where I hunt sunrise is 7:10. I will have counted at least 20-50 shots from 6:20-7:10! One might be mine! lol
  13. Good luck, leaving around noon tomorrow for camp.

    GRUNTS

That is cool. Years ago I had a huge buck tending a doe real close to me. He was making a clicking sound every 10 seconds or so. He wasn't pressing her just following. I missed……….

    Camp

325 miles about 6hrs. I'll leave LI around noon on Friday and can only stay until Sunday night. 2 days are better than none!
  16. If a doe isn't ready to breed and she smells estrous scent she will head for the hills. The doe will think there will be a buck around harassing the doe who left the scent, she wants no part of this. I have had this happen a number of times.
  17. I'm going with light field. I used to shoot copper solids but they jammed my gun a few times at the wrong moment!
  18. 8P my hunting grounds…..many big deer and some huge racks!
