  1. I hope you're kidding, that's not good.
  2. wouldn't it be easier to just unload the guns as opposed to cancelling you trip plans?
  3. if you don't know what it is, that test spot may turn into a dirt spot.........
  4. not that I ever did this, but a little at a time in small bags in garbage cans at gas stations and such around town.........it'll be gone in no time.
  5. have you given it the taste test yet? not sure what lime tastes like, but if it's salt you'll know.
  6. well, that was based on hoping we had honest hunters.....mandatory check in of the doe would be of help, but we know that the chances of them to setting aside the resources for that is pretty slim.
  7. I think the best solution for increased doe take is an "earn a buck" law in the heavily populated areas......I know quite a few guys who are only interested in killing bucks.....and I also think that is a reason the doe only for the first few weeks in certain areas failed, most guys did not want to screw up an area by going in too early and either having to pass on the buck they were after or just screw up the area in general, make harvesting a doe mandatory and you may have very different results....and yes if it's that bad let the gun hunters have at it as well.
  8. relocating is a not allowed....pretty sure they will tell you to kill it.
  9. I've never had the need to knock on a door and seek land to hunt on, always been rather successful on the public land I hunt on, I have hunted private land that was just offered up to me, but I never sought it out. The few times I thought about it was driving past and seeing property with nice deer, turkey or whatever, and just to stop and ask because of me wanting to go after a certain animal seemed kind of shallow, so I passed. I stopped going to one piece of private property that I hunted because on one occasion the landowner/friend told me I could bring my brother in law along with the stipulation to pleases not take any small deer....well it was late muzzleloader and I heard my companion shoot so I started making my way over and heard a second shot...turns out he killed two little button bucks, I never went back after that...although I didn't screw it up I felt responsible for that incident......it was like a double screw up, not only two little deer, but button bucks to boot.
  10. yes, I did some research and it's a pretty good deal.....I just have no need for it right now otherwise I would be interested, figured I'd chime in to say it's not a bad deal at all.
  11. any water nearby? actually I'm gonna stick with possum by the way the tail goes from dark to light color.
  12. I've seen one fisher over the years, I was amazed how long it was, especially the tail.........I'm gonna say opossum based on what the tail looks like to me.
  13. I'm pretty sure if you choose to hunt with your bow during the regular gun season you are free to do so....just have to hunt under the regular season rules as far as tagging goes if I'm not mistaken.
  14. I'm going to say not a woodchuck, other then that I don't now.........my guess if you had a woodchuck in that area you would be getting him all the time......and I think Fischer are significantly larger than whatever that is, it kind of looks to me like the tail is skinny and hairless, like an opossum or muskrat tail.
  15. I don't think anything will if the land is owned by die hard hunters. I do think it would be considered by many non hunting landowners if there was a major tax benefit or something else significant , especially if any liability would fall on the State should something happen to someone using the land.
  16. the manual for my PSE Fang says replace string once a year or after 500 shots, whichever comes first.
  17. Bingo!!! but also be aware of local ordinances and such......like I mentioned earlier, I can't override the rifle thing down on long Island, because they're forbidden anywhere and anytime while hunting or tracking.
  18. "So my question is: am I allowed to bring my dog with me into the field when I deer hunt in the Northern Zone (specifically the Adirondacks)?" if this is your main question, and it sounds like you're asking if you can have your dog by your side while hunting and not tracking, and not using him for hunting, but just having him hang out with you ...the answer is no.
  19. I think that refers to certain firearms and whether or not their allowed in the area...for instance, I tracked on Long Island.....had to carry a shotgun because rifles and handguns are forbidden on the Island, same as if you're tracking in a shotgun only zone, no rifle. The license allows you to carry a firearm that is allowed to be discharged in that area...much like it allows you to shoot after legal hours, which is forbidden everywhere......and it allows you to have the dog with you while doing so.
  20. you need to separate tracking and hunting totally......when you're tracking, you're tracking...when you're hunting, you're hunting.....can't take your dog for a "walk" while hunting deer. If you have tracking license that overrides the law of not having a gun and dog afield at the same time. The law you posted says while "hunting", you're not hunting at that point, you're tracking.
  21. I did it for a few years, was enjoyable in the beginning...to be honest the attitudes of some hunters burned me out.
  22. preference points can be used for applying for a tag in any area, not just the area you were previously denied and issued the preference point for.....as far as the DMP tags go, they are area specific, unless I'm missing something.
