  1. I think a lot of taxidermist wait until the y have enough to send off to the tannery, many do not do it themselves.........so if you drop yours off on opening day, it may sit in his freezer until he has enough to send off, that could be 2 months lost right there.
  2. is that anything like a hot rod gasket?
  3. I usually go 12-15' to the bottom of the stand
  4. I think some of the campsites on eastern long island are open for most of archery.....I stayed at wildwood one year during the week and it was pretty deserted, certainly not backwoods but would be a good time and not too far for a lot of the guys and the hunting is close....just a thought.
  5. not sure what you're looking for, but I have an unfinished English style stock that I'm not going to use............but it needs fitting and finishing.
  6. whichever shoots better out of your bow...........personally I would go slick trick.
  7. I guess that's where the "mentoring" part comes in....you look at the kid and say "you can shoot it if you want, but we're in for a lot of work if you do and you're helping every step of the way."
  8. I don't see the necessity in getting the bear turned into a trophy of sorts...just eat it and toss the remains like most of us do with the deer we shoot........some nice field photos serve the purpose of preserving memories just fine.
  9. doesn't bother me one bit......I've always been a big supporter of youth hunts.
  10. I could see someone wanting to use one on heavily hunted public land as a safety thing.........up out of the line of fire so to speak.
  11. I have Irish Setters as well and love them, only issue is the heavy lugs on the bottom get caked with snow and need to be cleaned off every now and again.........they're leather and goretex, I spray em with silicone about twice a season and they are about as waterproof as you can get.
  12. from that picture, KanJam looks like it might be fun at your house.......
  13. sorry for your loss........sad day for sure.
  14. how did the stock fit? been thinking about upgrading mine as well.
  15. wooden platforms, big nails for climbing pegs and no safety harness in the beginning.......it's a wonder myself or anyone I hunted with never got hurt using that system. The first safety belts we used just looped around the tree and cinched around your chest under your armpits, if the fall didn't kill you the safety belt would for sure.
  16. I agree on the "heck you should of done it months ago." part.
  17. it's pretty much just entertainment, no different then any other "reality" TV show.
  18. I learned that even if you make a bad shot, just look at the camera and say "smoked em"........
  19. I'll give it a shot, no particular plan. I went two years ago and actually saw one......the area I was hunting was open for bear but the opposite side of the road was not........guess where he was?
  20. yeah, but with most of the surrounding areas requiring preference points it's pretty much the only option if you don't have one.
  21. there is a lot of public access land in 4P as well, so that's always as option. I've never hunted it for deer, so no advice as far as that goes.
  22. 4O needs a preference point if I remember correctly, so unless you have one you'll definitely get denied, but you'll have one in the bank for next year......if I was you I'd go 4O first choice and 4P second, you may have a shot at 4P which is right next to you, or worse case you'll have a preference point for next year. The DECALS system should walk you through how to apply.
