How wide is he?
-
sideways face with a wart on it? maybe a witch???
-
that's pretty good....I actually liked the longbeards better then the Hevi shot blend

much like with the beard, you gotta salt the fleshy end.....just gotta be careful not to remove to much flesh otherwise the feathers will fall out. I usually nail them to a board fanned out and change the salt every few days as it will draw out moisture and will stop doing its job once its wet, so keep adding dry salt.

yeah, it's tough enough finding time for ourselves and our own families these days......with that being said, I would do a youth hunt with someone who is interested in hunting...I really enjoyed doing that with my kids.

Bingo!! when my kids first started bowhunting, I basically didn't hunt for the first year getting them started my time was devoted to making sure they where getting my full attention in all aspects....I would pretty much get them set up and either sit with them or go sleep in the truck after getting them set and then would go back at the end of shooting time and make sure they got out safely and were learning things every step of the way, it didn't bother me at all, but I would assume there's many that would find that a huge inconvenience.....it was pretty much the same with Turkey hunting, and the thrill of them being successful far outweighed anything I've ever done hunting for myself.

I've seen recurve packages for around $150.00......
-
I don't think it requires much, a low poundage bow maybe 45-50 lbs and a cheap bowfishing arrow and spool type reel to get started........you can probably find cheap starter setups as far as the arrow and reel/line setup go.

I will say I have had some mixed reactions from birds using the Jake/Hen setup....I've had mature Toms break away from hens and come in on a string, I've had the hens show more interest and the Toms just followed them and the Old Tom I got last year put on the brakes the second he saw the decoys and turned to leave...luckily he was close enough and never got the chance. I'm still reluctant to use the full strut Tom decoy I bought a few years ago and it hasn't left the basement.

I think that today's hunter is part of the problem.....as Doc mentioned, the atmosphere has totally changed, I remember as a kid the buildup to the hunt was just as much fun as the hunt, if not more. I remember getting together weeks before the opening week hunt to plan the weekly menu with the entire group, going shopping for the supplies, the packing and preparing, the drive up with everyone, the setting up of camp, we had the whole weekend before the Monday opener to meet with other camps and socialize.....the night after opening day was pretty exciting too, seeing what everyone got, driving around to see what everyone had hanging and hearing stories. Today it seems to have evolved into a solo event with more focus on personal satisfaction then anything else, it's more rushed too...get home from work, toss everything into the car and race to fit a few days in and rush back home, not much fun for the kids if you ask me. I hate to say it, but there also seems to be a huge amount of selfishness and secrecy with today's deer hunter as well.

Why Tesla’s Model 3 Could Be the New Model T
jjb4900 replied to EspressoBuzz's topic in General Chit Chat
I've seen a few....can't remember exactly where, thinking I saw them at some train stations. -
that's what I hear...
-
as someone mentioned earlier, steel shot typically patterns better out of a modified choke then a full.....I personally wouldn't buy an xtra full for steel....waste of $$$.
-
good point, my new Benelli has tubes marked as such......forgot all about that.
-
I know guys that do a lot of duck hunting with guns that have interchangeable tubes, never heard any of them ever having a problem.
-
If I were you, I'd start turkey hunting.....I find it more exciting then deer hunting, usually nice and warm out and still time for a round of golf in the afternoon.
-
I set the Jake real close to the hen, almost right next to her....seems to get the Tom a little more worked up.
-
I put out a hen or two and Jake, so far so good. I set them up fairly close....15-20 yards, helps out if the bird hangs up.....putting them too far away is no good if that happens.
-
I'm shocked none of us never lost an eye or finger........
-
did lot's of fun stupid things.......we had many uses for black powder, none of it involved using guns.
-
Next time around I'm gonna go with straight venison with some basic spices and see how that works.....meatloaf is exactly what came to mind the last time I made them with too much other stuff added.
-
me too.
-
as long as it's kept out of the hands of Tools we should be OK.....gotta make the course mandatory.
-
I think part of the rush, for me anyway, of hunting with a compound or recurve, is the moment building up to the shot.....the way everything has to pretty much come together perfectly to make it happen, I didn't get that with the crossbow...but still enjoyed it, just not in the same way.
-
not really.
