x2 on what oneida wrote. 20 30 40. with the speeds on todays set ups. not much difference between 10 and 20 sometimes and it is easier at closer ranges to compensate a little. but could be a lot of difference between 20 and 40 as at the longer ranges your arrow will certainly have lost energy and speed. it is only moving the one pin and unless you will not shoot at a target in the 30 yard range, it could be worth the effort. good luck.

great job guys. i am with Jennifer, fall turkey is more challenging and much more rewarding than spring turkey.

From what I understand from reading the DEC site is if the zone is open at start of the day it will stay until end of day. So it will not stop say 7F at 11am because target is hit. It gets calculated at end of day and taken off if target is hit. this is correct, Fletch. its more of a hand out than a lottery. got two for 8g.

i get two of the left over permits and hunt DLSP almost every year. some days there seems to be a lot of hunters and other days not so many, like other state lands. most times the deer are in a hurry when you see them. in case you dont know, you will need the free park permit that is availible at the kiosk located at the main office on HARLOW RD. you can get the permit any time of day or night as the kiosk is outside. also there is an a small area east of eleven mile creek that is BOW ONLY. you can get a map when you get your permit that shows all. most years a few really big bucks are taken. good luck.

i have one mounted on my 1100 slug gun. this will be the 5th season and have never had a problem and it has worked amazingly well in torential rains and blowing snow. never had a fogging problem. it works as well as any of the high end scopes. certainly better then the scopes in the same price range. imo. would not hesitate to get another one or more if i needed them.

i keep saying southern zone when i really mean western ny. i keep forgetting there is more to the southern zone and the southern tier for that matter, than catt county.

at one time it was 7a-5p. this changed sometime in the mid 60's. should go back to that, it was easier to keep track of imo. i left nys in 1991 and there was no sunday big game hunting in the southern zone, came back in 2002 and there was sunday hunting.

my grandfather smoke all the time. camel chain smoker. from the time i can remember, he always killed a buck on opening day in asp. always had a butt in his mouth when i had the chance to go with him. fill the party permit on the 2nd day. always said the deer where attracted to the smoke. curiosity i reckon??? and when he fished, he would spit in his hands and rub his bait in the spit. he did this no matter what bait he was using, minnows, chubs, worms, artificials. he always caught more and bigger fish than all of us????

for most of the year, the male turkey head is more of a dull red. in late winter the head becomes more brillantly colored with red, blue and white. as the turkey becomes more excited the head will become more white and the other colors are less visible. this color change can happen almost instantly as the gobbler gets more and more excited to breed. the more excited the more white till the head can become all white.(i have one mounted that is all white). hens (especially hens with beards) can have a touch of red in their head. as with gfdeputy2 they both will turn blood red with a load of #5s from my 1100.

an early episode of Deer and Deer Hunting tv indicated that after the doe has been bred, the fawns most likly will return to the doe. as long as the fawn(s) suckle, the doe will have milk....... personally i am more of a freezer filler therefore i kill does and fawns. any doe killed after the rut, certainly during the late bow/muzzle season, will certainly have one or more fetuses growing along with the fawns that may be with her. killed a big doe during late muzzle 3 years ago that had 3 fetuses. no fawns around. still had milk.
