  1. "neck sizing only" will extend the life of your brass considerably. but as stated above, keep an eye out for extraction issues.

  4. if you freeze the hide right after skinning, no need to do or spray anything on the hide.freezing kills all the insects that may be there.and preserves the hide indefinitly. good luck with your leather making.
  5. looks like the trapper super sportsman does not include the bow hunting previlige like the hunting super sportsman does. ?????????? i pay the 21$ extra to get a trapping permit. i suspect you will also. good luck on your trapping ventures.

  12. watch the boys from Beast Outdoors shoot squirrels. dead on most of the time. amazing shots with a bow!
  13. should always fire a cap/primer to be sure orifaces are unobstructed. point barrel at grass blade and watch for movement. this should be done after a wipe down with a dry patch or patches to remove any excess oil and before you go hunting.
  14. the BEST way to clean pyrodex is to use American Pioneer powder. lol i have had no problem cleaning my flintlock barrel buy submerging the barrel in soapy water. it works the best and is quicker than other methods, imo after cleaning i rinse with really hot water. and use dry clean patches to dry the barrel. and since the barrel is hot, it evaporates any moisture that is left. allow to cool some and oil it good. been doing this for 25 years. no problems.
  15. asp is open for camping during the all hunting seasons. also you may camp up to three nights on state forest land with out a camping permit. pine hill state forest is close to south valley and also has places to park and is good hunting as well. there are motels/hotels in salamanca plus the casino has room$$$$$ . good hunting where ever you stay.
  16. although i was born in buffalo, i lived in virginia from the time i was two till i was eleven. all my family loved to hunt. small game was the big deal and first on the list was squirrels. there must not have been very many deer in the western coal mines area of virginia at that time. i dont recall seeing one alive or dead. but lots of small game hunting. living on a 500 acre farm and not needing a licence till you were 16, i stayed in the woods. my dad bought me a new shotgun when i was 9 years old and i hunted on my own (dad allowed me to stay home from school and hunt one day. come in to get some lunch and watched the kennedy assassination thing). then we moved back to new york, and had to wait two years before i could go hunting again. that was really tough. i had a lot of influence from dad and grand-dad for hunting and fishing. got into trapping on my own, (although i did know one guy that trapped, he was quite tight lipped about everything), when in my early thirties. hunting small game and turkeys are by far my favorites. deer fill the freezers. my son doesnt hunt much, but is an avid fisherman. my daughter loves both ,but has time for neither. i have three grand-children. two are so envolved in sports(thankfully not video games) they have no time either. third one is 14 months, and really seems interested in the items for hunting and fishing more so than toys. also likes to look at the mounts i have more so than the other grand- children. even watches hunting and fishing shows with me. keeping my hopes alive. i guess mentors had a lot to do with starting me, and i will continue by my self if need be. wish all could see the enjoyment in our sport. thanks
  17. can bearly play the radio. wish i could play some musical instrument. maybe sax or drums.
  18. a few weeks ago found 4 complete with spouts, old style plastic ones at the curb for garbage. perfect condition. grabbed them babies in a heart beat. then celebrated with a couple of brews!!
  19. you might want to check the rate-of-twist in the barrel. a 1 in 66 is standard for patched round balls. a faster twist will certainly shoot accurately with a prb, as with any gun just have to work up the proper charge. i have a 54 hawken flintlock and killed several deer,a yote, a couple of squirrels, and a black bear using a prb with 100g fff. also pre-lubed patches are easier to work with. also have a 54 traditions that shoots mighty fine with prb's but because of the faster rot it does shoot powerbelts better. i find it a lot of fun working up a charge and getting it right with black powder guns, you will too and will be getting that flintlock next. good luck and keep your powder dry.
  20. just wondering nygooseduster26, did you ever make it to the big-o? how did you do?
  21. got 9H, denied 9R, guy next door signing over his 9W.
