  1. See what happens when we start naming the deer like pets.... "mans best friend"..aka "Fido" gets left to rot in the woods while we exhaust every available option to recover a deer carcass, even if it means calling in the deer search dogs.
  2. Doesn't matter to me if it's going to be 140 degree or -30 degree...... the deer will be running for their lives here this weekend. To be honest, I was kinda hoping for a comfy 60*!

    GRD

    That's a lot of tacos!
  4. This is a really good tip Treeguy! I met a deer search tracker a few years ago who carried "swatches" of hair patches just as you described. She basicly narrowed down my hit to within a few inch section on the deer. It was crazy what appeared to me to be a "perfect vital hit" had turned out to be low and likely hit the opposite leg. All hair evidence collected right at the point of impact! I haven't made my own example yet, but I do pay more attention to hair at the site now.
  5. I ran my Moultrie in vid mode over a creekbottom scrape while I hunted behind the house the other day. I thought these clips were pretty cool. I always wondered if maybe I'm over doing it when I whizz in the scrapes myself. After watching this little guy open the floodgates, I guess not,lol Click pics for clips! This next little fella sure has some happy hips that would make Elvis jealous! He's got the moves like Jagger, lol Same busted 6'er working the licking branch.. Here's the meaty 4pt! Check out the tangled mess he has hanging from his right antler! Here's a new buck I've never seen before! Neat rack with some pretty wicked brows! Same buck here, but he givs a better look at his rack at the end of this one! I'll run cams behind the house tomorrow afternoon to see some of the bigger dudes!
  6. Deffinately a "skipper" right now, but has potential in a few years! You can tell that's a young one because the rack is still pretty firm and perky and isn't hanging down to it's elbows. Generally speaking, the mature ones will also have fewer teeth.., an extra flap of skin and hair under their chins..,and usually travel alone under the cover of darkness, and prefer to stay closer to feeding areas. The young chubby buck harassing her will probably soon be chased off by the protective paternal elder. Probably the last pic you'll get of that little tub o' testosterone! Wouldn't surprise me if his carcass turns up in an overgrown thicket before they ever reach the bedding area!
  7. I like a guy that can laugh at his mistakes and doesn't take the little things so seriously! This deer hunting stuff really isn't all that important in the grand scheme of things. I'll assume whoever wrote that really enjoys the time they spend afield for what it is... nothing more... nothing less!
  8. I took this doe yesterday. 16yd shot, and my first ever archery deer from a treestand. She ran about 50yds and crashed.
  9. Saw this guy the other day while heading out to Great Valley. Private farm.... elk and bison right by the road(behind a fence of course) but a real pretty NY setting and no visible ear tags made it pretty cool to see!

    Grunt call

Oh man Joe we need to have a caption contest for that pic, lmao 18 inches....long black.... and Joe blows, would probably pop up at least once on the first page and I'm sure there would be plenty more lauughter to cum, lol!
  11. LOL- that's how somebody gets shot! It's even got the glowing eyeballs.
  12. Wow, I can't believe how early everone starts drinking around here, lol!
  13. I try to call them in whenever I find one but they keep hanging up on me.. I'll probably just turn myself in this year. Probably deserve to be punished for all the roadkill and shed antlers I've rescued... I mean stolen from the environment.
  14. Helluva job this season!!!
  15. Not sure what this guys deal is..... I'll kill him tomorrow!
  16. I'll bet a lot of guys draw their own lines as far as how much technology they incorporate into their hunts. Some advancements I enjoy taking advantage of, while others I feel need to stay the same if for no other reason than my own traditions sake. I like a nice bright site that elliminates some of the innacuracies and confusion in a low light hunting conditions. I also enjoy using trail cams, but wouldn't think of using one of the models available nowdays that immediately texts or e-mails the pics as soon as they're captured. I have no problem with guys taking advantage of technology if they feel it makes them a more proficient hunter....notice I didn't say a "better hunter". I'd rather see a guy using a few bells and whistles to enhance his performane while afield, opposed to fumbling around the woods wounding game because his gear is limiting his ability to harvest animals in a clean quick fashion. That said, I also get a bit annoyed seeing some of the newcomers entering the sport looking more like Nascar drivers with all the logos and product endorsing.
  17. I sat from 5am till dark yesterday and all I saw was a cat and a little spiker on my way out. Good thing I still have some venison in the freezer or the cat would have been in trouble!
  18. I leave my climber out year round. I've got 4 trees I know of in the area that it works good on and I feel safe climbing with it. I wont set it up in the dark, and I stick to only those trees of similar dimensions I'm farmiliar with so I don't have to adjust anything if I want to relocate it. I felt discouraged like you when I bought mine, but have finally found a way to cover a decent amount of area with it silently and safely. Hope you get yours figured out. I prefer my climber over my loc on stands now.
  19. Oh man.... you got 7 days to report after the kill. How long were those deer laying around before getting cut into steaks!
  20. He's a sweet buck with cool character now.., good luck!
  21. I saw that a couple times durring archery last season. I too thought they would be off the teet by now, but I guess it's not so uncommon. Good cam catch!
  22. Nice finds crappyice! I would leave that skull grungie and put it on the porch for Halloween!
  23. Right you are Steve! You can put whip cream, chocolate syrup, and a cherry on top of a pile of poop, and I'll gaurantee you it won't smell like an ice cream sundae, lol
