Would you register all your guns?
wheelieman replied to nybuckboy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I was duck hunting one time and the boat capsized all my guns are sitting in the bottom of the lake somwhere, -
The year my buddy got shot while deer hunting Dieter Cramer the D.E.C officer at the time told me when checking all are guns that deer hunting had a cap of 6 shots, but for small game it didnt matter, waterfowl's 3 shot restriction is the only one out there, Now if that still holds true i dont know, But really do you need more than 6 shots, Ive never used more than 2, And when hunting with an AR-15 the magizne can hold no more than 5 shots, So there has to be a restriction somwhere, The AR part was brought up at a federation meeting,

That corn field 400 yds away is the last spot you would see me sitting, Id keep the bow sit where you are and when everbody else is sitting on the corn you will be sitting in their bedding area, Getting there at 9 is prolly just about the right time too

Thank you, just a little late i dropped him off at Clingermans in North Rose this morning, I will definatley get ahold of you for the next one, Before i make my decisions, But i ended up full sneak with a left look and "compition eyes" for 540.00 after tax

Got in my stand last night and was immediately covered up with bucks, I shot the number 2 on my hit list and he is my biggest to date, but for rutting activity in northern 8J they are pretty much in full rut,

I have sole permission to hunt several properties and i found a bunch of stands hanging on them, I talked to the land owner and he said he has never given permission to hunt to anybody and to please bring him the stands, A couple days later i was stopped talking to the land owner when this white suv comes flying in the driveway, The guy gets out and starts screaming at the land owner cussing and down right being a jerk. The land owner told him because of the way he acted he wasn't getting his stands back. The guy called the police and the cops did nothing about it, They said unless he could prove the stands were his and they were not on the wrong property they weren't his in the eyes of the law, Since then i have never seen another stand on the property other than mine and have never had a problem with trespassing, Moral of the story is unless you want another hunter to be happy with all their new stands stay where you have permission,

Driving today and saw 4 bucks trotting field and wood edges, Im gonna say its safe to say that the RUT is almost upon us, My buddy jason was in Mendon today and called to tell me he saw 2 bucks on the thru way checking out Doe's. So its time to get excited and get in the woods, By the way all 6 of those deer were seen after 10am and before 1 pm,

to the farmer in Volney that wont harvest his corn
wheelieman replied to arrow nocker's topic in General Chit Chat
stop crying and go get them, stalking through corn on a windy wet day is awsome, -
How do you know its them being a jerk? What if he is intentionally setting up in places that there is alot of traffic, After 14 years you would think he would have found the spot that nobody seems to go. That little honey hole thats away from where everybody travels, The spot that when people walk in the deer all run to before the other people even see them, Every piece of property that has that much hunting pressure has them, I used to hunt alot on heavily hunted state land and learned to use the other hunters to my advantage, Only thing is all the deer sign in the world means nothing in that type of set up, These are the spots that you get to before the other hunters head too thier spots. And just wait for them to walk in and scare the deer to you, It takes awile to find these spots but not 14 years, Just saying that if you choose to hunt where there are that many people how do you get angry when they are there,

Rather large red-squirrel??
wheelieman replied to BlasterMaster42's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
where have you read that its illegal to kill chipmunks? -
Better than anything Ive done, Being my first season hunting waterfowl, I'm running #2s in a 3in shell through a full choke, and missed prolly ten times before i folded up a woody, When i breasted the bird out i had a bunch of shot in the breast area, But the bird still flew a hundred yards and wadded up in the woods, If i didn't have a trained Lab who caught her scent 50 yds out and chased it down and caught it i wouldn't have brought that bird home, Just like the guy who started this post i'm in need of advice, I cant get geese to commit and ducks laugh when they fly by like little mini fighter jets, I'm clueless when it comes to waterfowl, If you want to kill a deer i can help with that, But ducks are way different than bucks,

Good deal, My buddy and i cant get a bird to come in to save our lives lol

Fisher use your calls, use them even if you don't see anything, If you see a deer at a distance call getting louder until the deer acknowledges it heard you then call some more, switch between your doe call and your grunt tube, Set that grunt tube to either doe bleat or young buck, I always use an estrus call and have always had good luck with it,

Stop thinking so hard, Finding deer is easy. Those all day sits aren't doing you any good either, couple hours in the am and a couple hours at night, when the chase phase starts then i might sit all day, Post a pic of your property or something, looking at aerial photos is the first step, Normally you can find where the deer are just by looking at the pics, Then if you sit and you see deer moving in another place go in in the middle of the day and quietly hang a stand near there, Learn how to use a grunt call and a doe bleat can, almost every deer i have ever shot with a bow has come in to a call,

Take a cotton ball tear a piece off and rub peanut butter into it attach it to the trigger so it gets stuck, Then set the trap bait side toward the wall. When you wake up empty the trap in the trash, When the bait gets stuck and they cant just lick it off, they will try and grab it, when they do whack you got em'. Its the only way i set traps any more, after finding my traps sprung with nothing in them, Using this method ive only ever had maybe 1 or 2 that were sprung and empty,

Pre- Rut maybe, people kill me every year its the same thing, Its gonna be an early rut, Granted a few deer will be coming into heat here and there, But the Rut ( by that im assuming the chase phase) Isnt really gonna kick in until around halloween and then it will be another few days to a week before its full blown, Then around 28 days later the secound rut will come in, Mostly the activity you are seeing is normal interaction between a very social group of animals, Think like this guys you enjoy the way a women smells right, well Guess what so dont bucks, Just saying, Ive spent countless hours watching deer over the last ten years or so even in the middle of summer you will see deer following each other around, But for those who dont watch always assume that the rut is on when bow season opens normally Oct. 15th , Some guys on here have been bowhunting longer than ive been alive and out of all them years how many of you have you seen the rut ( by that i mean the chase phase )start before halloween, And how many times. I really need to know? Im part of an achery club and we have 100 or so members out witch i know almost all of them, Out of all of them only a small few are not hunters, And after talking to them most will say that maybe once or twice in the last 30 or so years has the rut ever been actually early,

60 bucks vacuumed sealed, Tag stays with the meat through the whole process, 2 butchers in the shop and they cut, grind and seal each deer individually, Then that deer is put away and the next one comes out, I watched one time it was pretty interesting to see how fast they can do an entire deer, I never donated to the venison coalition, Mainly because, I talked to the guy who picked the meat up from the butcher one day and that load was going to Five points Correctional Facility, I'm not hunting to feed a bunch of felons, The butcher i use has a list of local families that are in need so i donate to them and he charges nothing for doing it, Rather see it go into my community than be sent to prisons and cities, JMHO

There are a few about an hour from there, But as far as local couldnt tell you, Heritage in phelps is a decent place Expensive as all hell, but Mike Price is one of the best in the area, Ten Point archery in waterloo, Phil Jensen is great at what he does as well. Bass Pro has some really good techs a few are close friends of mine. I guess it depends on what your willing to pay but there are only 3 people besides me on this planet that i would let touch my equipment, Phil Jensen, Paul Sinak @ bass pro, Mike Price and thats the order in wich i would personally would go,

Ive used both. My stand of preference is a lock on with those 3 step section climbing sticks, 3 sections and your stand strapped together and there isn't a tree you cant get into in the woods, relatively easy to set up, On state land i always pull the bottom 2 climbing stick sections and leave the third up with the stand haven't had one stolen after switching to that style of climbing sticks, But really i don't care how many limbs or how crooked the tree you can get into it with that set up, bass pro has them and a stand you should easily stay under the 200.00 mark, Ive got 5 sets and i can be up and hunting in about 10 mins. All my buddies that hunt with me have changed to this set up as well they love it, Its taken 18 yrs of hunting to come up with this set up and i dont think i will ever change, By the way Dicks has tree stands cheaper than Bass Pro and the climbing sticks at bass pro are better than the ones at dicks, jmho. In Auburn the 2 stores are across the street from one another lol

Im sorry but i didnt mind the youth hunt, the gunshots drove all the deer from surrounding properties into mine, can we have another one next weekend, i saw so many different bucks and some real nice ones at that, Except this time i will be sitting in the escape corridors instead of my normal stands. Just saying

D.E.C I actually had this conversation with an econ officer, he said this on the topic, I don't care if you carry 15 guns don't bother me a bit if you want to carry all them guns that's your choice, Its not illegal just don't have a gun that holds more than 6 unless its a pistol, That's in 8J so the only way to get your answer would be ask the econ officer you will be dealing with in your area, the law is open for interpretation, The way he understands it, not you. Hope it helps

Ethics don't sell. Morality doesn't sell, The big buck down is all that matters to tv shows anymore, They have gotten so bad i don't even watch them , When they hit a deer the night before and then talk about jumping it up and coming back in the morning, Then they show a very stiff carcass laying there, its pathetic, Its all about the dollar and getting sponsors, scent lock, rage, moultrie, Camo companies, this broad head is better than that one, Its all bull crap, every person needs to be them selves and decide for themselves what works for them, Not what some tv host did on tv, Like Craig Morgan using a crossbow to kill a speed goat at 85 yds its simply irresponsible of them to show things along those lines, Every illegal thing done while hunting or every animal that survives a bad shot that gets seen with an arrow sticking out of it reflects poorly on all hunters not just the hunter who did it, We are scrutinized every minute of every day and the non hunting population only See's the bad done, not all the good that comes out of the sport,
