I Hang Stands in the begininng of September, but scout year round, I'll put my cams out in July and and visit them once every few weeks, I also always keep a stand in my woods so during season if i see deer moving in another area i can go and put it up mid-day,

Disturbing Trend
wheelieman replied to Early's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Isnt that how the goverment wants it to be, -
Its sad that in this country the only way to prove a point is to hit people in the the checking account, But if it works then so be it, Hopefully the venue has learned a lesson,
-
well every body has their own opinion, And ill continue to do what has proven itself time and again to me, I'm not saying your wrong we just do things different, I'm not going to argue if it works for you then have fun, I just simply don't like the problems that treat training presents, I find it easier to eliminate the treat temptation and work strictly with praise and a collar,
-
I have no experience with coon dogs, I'm a lab guy myself and really enjoy training dogs, But any dog that's a house dog needs to learn basic obedience and collar conditioning is as important if not more than just about anything else, Stay away from training with treats, If your dog becomes lazy and refuses to do things unless it gets treats you'll have a fight on your hands, But basic obedience is the key for all retriever training with out it you might as well get a little lap dog, As far as coon hounds i have heard people at the club saying its easier to train a new dog when he is running with older dogs that can hunt, But really give praise and not treats when your training the results will be better, Also you might want to learn how to decipher the dogs body language so you can respond properly, Bored dogs dont like to train, They most often take longer to train and it shows in the finished product,

are 22lr ar15s exempt
wheelieman replied to tommygunz's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
ok so if i'm reading this right my plinkster 22 is still legal to own, but my brothers gun that looks like an AR even though its a plinkster is illegal. The plinkster is a semi auto 22 with a detachable magazine but it does not possess any of the other characteristics of an assault rifle, -
Who wants Yearling Buck Protection with ARs in their area?
wheelieman replied to Meat Hunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Ok im Pro- AR, I'm also pro hard work, They best part of shooting a mature deer is knowing you went head to head with a master and came out on top, Now That being said i generally try and shoot the largest bucks i have on trail cam if i cant shoot one of them i wont shoot a buck, Ill just tag a doe unless some thing else moves into the area during the rut, As far as restrictions on points per side its hard to do, I'm thinking spread is maybe a little bit better of an idea but even then what do you do with 3 year old spike horns, That's why i'm in total favor of an earn a buck program, By taking the time to harvest a doe you can get an idea of whats roaming your hunting spot, That by itself might be enough to allow most hunters to pass on the little 4 pnts or sixes because they have seen a bigger deer, or at least hold off for a while and maybe an older aged deer will present a shot, As far as being an antler hunter i'm guilty as charged but i can say with bigger antlers comes bigger deer, bigger deer means more meat, And I will have a nice mount on the wall to brag about, And yes i like doing that,- 320 replies

They had 3400 + people sign up. If you can get permission in the Cayuga Heights area the 2 antlerless deer a day could actually be a reasonable thing, I am going to spend some time this summer knocking on doors trying to get permission.

Good shooting, Wood duck is the best best eating duck out there,

Join some local clubs, Rifle and pistol or archery clubs in time you will find a few good buddies that will help you, Tv shows are entertainment and are never realistic to hunting in New York, and All the scouting in the world means nothing if you cant decipher what the sign means spend some time observing your area, read some articles in magazines But the best way to learn is trial and error, never sit in a stand if your not seeing deer, If from your stand you are seeing deer 200 yds away go into the area quietly during mid day and hang a stand then be back early that night to hunt if the wind is in the right direction, But don't just sit there and watch them you have to get in the game in order to play the game, All the calls and scents in the world cant make a deer go where it doesn't want to go, And again observe the deer from a distance if you can, Watch where they come into the fields and exit the fields, under normal circumstances also watch where they leave the fields when they get spooked sometimes its the same place sometimes its not, but that will give you a good idea on where to start,

I dont have any of my older pics scanned in yet but i do have my brothers first deer with a bow, Taken on state land, He didnt shoot another deer for 6 years after tagging this guy,
-
My slug gun will not shoot the remington slugster, half the time they will not even go off, tried winchesters and i couldn't hit the broadside of a barn standing in it, Federal truball is a great round but i truly prefer the original federals i just cant find them anywhere, 100 yds is what i sight in for and never had a problem,

WE HAVE THE RIGHT TO BARE ARMS, ITS UP TO POLITICIANS ON WHAT ONES WE CAN, Thats all, Arguing amongst are selves isn't going to change that, Voting into office people that have are best interests in mind is the only way to change it, So when it comes time to vote remember that, And vote for who best represents who you are and get rid of some of these politicians who can give two shits about anything other than their own bottom line,

Really hunting isn't going to end, its not possible to maintain healthy wild animals with out culling some, Insurance companies would go nuts and the people would get tired of having their stuff destroyed from an over abundant animal population, Disease could run rampant and devastate entire areas, it cant be done we will always be able to hunt, with what weapon that's the only thing in question,

Ok so i'm tore up on this topic, Do we need 30 rnd mags i don't believe so, But i also agree that if we allow them to ban high capacity mags whats next, Only thing i know is that something has to be done to prevent senseless killing of defenseless people, I also believe more gun laws will not do anything other than hinder law abiding citizens from defending themselves or loved ones, I'm with the majority of gun owners when i say you can pry my guns from my cold dead fingers, But really why do we need high capacity mags, I'm not against getting rid of them, if that is what it would take for my Niece's and nephew to go to school and be safe, Ill just learn how to load my mags faster,

What was your best day in the woods this year?
wheelieman replied to MACHINIST's topic in General Hunting
November 5th, I was covered up in deer all day and ended up shooting my biggest bow buck to date, ended up with a tally of 9 bucks before the one i shot came through and 7 or 8 doe best day in the woods in a long time, sorry about the tongue but i cant seem to get my photo shop application to work right, -
If you look up Tarjacks in Waterloo N.Y, They will take skulls that you have cleaned and dip them in whatever pattern you like as long as they have it, Pretty sure it costs around 80.00 plus shipping, I was thinking about getting my next buck done that way,
-
My brothers first deer with a bow was a white 6 point "color phase not albino" it still took him 6 years to put another deer down, Im thinking there might be somthing to that lol,
